Goz8 - Silence is Golden

@greebley
in this variant we are silent unless AI wants to talk and then we are allowed to renegotiate if we can get something out of it. I do like this version very much, it's not the typical defiant version.
So, what gozpel did was right, once we pounded the Vikings, they came crawling and asked for peace and we got 2 techs for it. :goodjob:

Again, my question, since the southern part of the island is ours, do we go north once we finish anarchy?
I feel we cant waste much time, soon our AC are useless, a pity we didn't get an army yet

I was thinking about giving boot orders. Making the distinction between boot orders and deals solves any problem of mixing Defiant and Tactless.

Essentially, telling someone to leave or declaring war doesn't need to be included in "Diplomacy". Diplo means Negotiating (Thats more what tactless means anyway) which boot orders and war is not.

I do realize you allow some forms of Negotiating in this game.

----------
In short you can be both defiant and tactless if you clarify what "diplomacy" means.

Looks like you all are doing well. Good Luck.

I mucked up the rules from the start, so now we're just having fun. We still use no diplo from our side and if someone missed that, (glances in someone's direction)
I'm not looking for a tall tree to hang them in.

Atm, we don't care/dare to give boot orders. We never wanted AW.

Next time I make sure to get it right.

grahamiam, take extra turns if you draw too many turns of anarchy.

Preflight check: check the rules again
I feel we still need more workers as there’s a lot of undeveloped land in our core. Switch Bad-T, Hareid, Isin to workers. We currently have only 8 workers and 3 slaves so I’ll take this peacetime opportunity to try to build more.

Bad-T: worker -> worker
Babylon building Knights Templar, Vikings building Leo’s

T1: 130BC Odense’s foreign citizens are tax-starved.

T2: 110BC Lagash gets a taxman. Philo in 1T so I turn down science and fire scientists

IBT: Philosophy -> currency; FP completes in Umma -> library

T3: 90BC Move workers around. Revolt, draw 7T :( MM all cities and manage to get 10gpt out of the civ.

T4: 70BC

T5: 50BC

IBT: our galley that is moving northward invokes the Otto’s to come yell at us for trespassing. Use this opportunity to explore a trade for republic but no possibility.

T6: 30BC

IBT: Babylon completes KT.

T7: 10BC

IBT: Otto’s and Babylon sign peace. Babylon is building Sistine’s

T8: 10AD Suislide galley heads into the unknown off the Mugla coast.

IBT: Babylon and Ottoman’s building Leo’s

T9: 30AD Suislide galley sees a blue border but no units  got-to-live-one-more-turn

IBT: we become a monarchy [party] suislide galley is lost at sea :( However, it’s trek revealed a 2 turn move to get to the blue border. Also, it looks like the Koreans have noticed us.

T10: 50AD Fire all clowns but keep a couple taxstarving collectors. Currency in 8T, +0gpt, 175g in the bank.
We pay 19gpt in unit support cost so I suggest we get a few more size 7 towns to ease that a bit. Keep building workers, we need as much land improved as possible. We can probably fit another 2 to 4 towns in the space we have right now.

good progress...since gozpel's computer is down, I think Sir Bugs is up

gozpel
grahamiam -> just played
Sir Bugsy -> up
ThERat -> on deck
Kaiser Berger

gozpel's computer is down? Very well. I'll take it, but I won't get it played until tomorrow. Goz - if you come back before then, feel free to grab it.

Happy New Year to all! [party]

@Bugs
not that gozpel is up and can't play. he stated that his computer can't take the australian heat, that's why I posted the roster for him.
maybe it wasn't even the heat, maybe he partied a little excessive

Pre-flight – Read the rules over again. Don’t talk to strangers Bugsy!
We need more land. Osman has more land. Plan on preparing for war with Osman while our ACs are still worth something. We can fit two or three more cities into our lands. Change Bad-T to a settler. Our workers are working together very well.

Early - Produce four workers, a galley and a horse.

Middle – Produce two libraries, a settler, two horses, four workers and a galley. Start the suicide voyage, and lose the galley at sea.

Late – currency=>construction. Found Der. Produce two horses, and a library. Spot a musket in an Ottoman city. The age of the AC may have passed. Second suicide voyage begins.

After action – We just about set for war with the Ottomans. There is an Ottoman spear we can kick out. Now the question is – do we want to? We can afford a few more cities, libraries and markets.

got it,

hmm Ottoman's have muskets? will we be able to go for a war? what does the rest think
maybe we could succeed to push forward until the next choke at Sinop?
once they get Siphati we will be in big trouble and we got no iron

I checked our military offensive force we have 20 horses and 7 AC

Pre-Turn
feel tempted to go for war, we can't afford to wait
we can set up our horses on a hill for direct attack on ankara
switch some towns to settler, we will need some if we attack
MM some towns for faster growth while still produce @ same speed

suicide galley lost at sea, but we do know koreans (already before that)

1. 260AD
set up units for attack next turn

IT Ottoman building Bach, several other followed later

2. 270AD
we are ready to attack
are we allowed to do the nasty thing and give Ottoman the boot order for being in our territory? anyway, I do that and we are at war
get War happiness, lux to 0% construction in 16

1st redline some archers and LB with our cats
attack denizli in the south and town is ours

thinking twice I assume it's better to approach Ankara and muskets with cats
hold off attack

before the attack
goz260.jpg

IT lose enkidu on defense

3. 280AD found Kua on that hill
set up for attack, get 2 slaves

4.290AD
cats go 2/7 at ankara, 2AC attack 2/3 muskets, defeat both and we raze city :D

5.300AD healing turn

6.310AD
set up attack on Salonika

7.320AD Raze Salonika, lose 2 horses, but defeat 2 spears and 2 LB inside
kill a few more units outside towns

IT Ottoman wants to talk, ok let's see :p
he would give us construction and 250g, I consider and then decide to take it
immediately Babs demand 33g but this time they do not declare
Lagash riots (must be vigilant with monarchy and MP's)

8.330AD
we drew feudalism, but without iron that's pretty useless
set research to engineering, due in 29, we need to go the saltpeter way to get better units, even LB's and trebs

10.350AD
settled another town (Marad), another settler is on the way to former Salonika site in the jungle (we are building one more settler, there is more space in the north)
I put a few scientists in corrupt towns where citizens would make no big difference. engineering now in 16, keep on building infrastructure, so that research duration goes down. Ur has no more infra to build and at 15spt can churn out a horse every 2 turns
we should be able to set up another war, I feel we need to push Ottoman higher up
I went for straight cash with peace, since we can provoke them easily into another war, they have units parked in our territory, ask them to leave and they could declare

after the battle (note: horses are parked to block their units)

Well executed KB! Hopefully those horses won't die in the jungle. Settle! Settle!

Well executed KB!
:) wasn't him, never mind hopefully he also has such luck as I had with RnG this time round
I totally forgot about the jungle disease
horses can retreat already since our settler is 1 tile away from the spot

T9 440

Nothing much.

IT- zzz

T10 450

Nothing new.

Summary

We're a bit more developed now. Militarily we're weak against only the Ottomans, and I saw a bunch of their units head north a turn or two ago. When our peace is up in seven turns it might be a good time to strike before they get the dreaded Sipahi.

When our peace is up in seven turns it might be a good time to strike before they get the dreaded Sipahi.
Luckily I have not seen knights and horses from them so if they do not have them, they can't build siphati, can they?
our military looks good for an attack with 28 horses and 10 AC, we should just demand them to leave our territory, maybe that gets us a war
we should be able to get those jungle towns and sinop at least, if only we could reach that iron :(

I don't think we want to take the chance of Osman getting a source of horses. Sipahis are deadly. We need to take the Ottos out soon. Plus those will be nice lands for core number two.

Edit - Mixed up gozpel games. :D

This is very silent, indeed.

Pre-turn - We're looking good. Up research a notch, but keep the scientists, so Engineering in 13t.

Swap a couple op courts to markets.

360AD - Not much.

370AD - Vikings completes Sistine and Ottomans Leo's.

Kuara founded.

Rush library in Marad for 152g.

380AD - Vikings and Babs starts Bachs.

We build some stuff, including a new galley.

390AD - Kutha founded.

400AD - Ottomans comletes Bachs. They also move their units out of our territory.

410AD - Vikings starts Copernicus, we are falling behind here.

Another galley on suicide run.

420AD - Galley sinks. Another starts a run from the other side.

430AD - Galley sinks, of course. Rush another on the E side, it looks like there is an island nearby.

440AD - There is an island to the east and Babs have a town there. I can move the galley over there next turn.

450AD - Galley is in Babs waters, maybe if we turn off research for a turn and deal when they ask us to leave? 3 turns left on Engineering.

Another galley ready to go next turn on the west side.

I started a couple of settlersso we can grab the last two spots, but probably from the wrong towns, please fix that.
