GozGram 1 - Hammurabi and The Code of Laws (100k)

We want culture and yes, 100k win and you're right microbe, this isn't enough.

But why do I envision a rusty nail being pulled out of a piece of hardwood, every time I read your comments? Positive thoughts, mate.

Yes, we need that iron. So can we maybe log all those trees to hurry some culture buildings? Or just switch right away, we will have BIG problems if we don't secure the iron soon. I don't think our military is ready for an onslaught already.

:hmm: I don't think I understand this. Where am I not positive, and "every time"?

Got it and will maybe play tonight. I dont know how much military we already have and cant have a look now. But from reading the turns it sounds we need more bowmen before we attack, so I probably get some turns of building up military and moving units - we will see. Maybe Henry will do us the favor of demanding/declaring in time.

And btw, I think building some culture now was a good deceision. What we dont need now, are cities flipping away from us.

We are going to be faced with two cultural giants. Portugal has the Temple of Artemis and India is already huge. Flips are going to be a real concern very soon. In fact I believe it is going to hard to keep any future captures from flipping back if we don't get our culture going soon. With this variant of only being able to capture one city per war, we need as much culture as possible.

PreTurn: set governor to maximise production; we want that on growth turns, don't we?
I switch some cities not judging prior deceisions, but maybe changing priorities a bit - prio is culture on borders and military in the back: switch Babylon to worker (3 1/2 is not enough) - it can do it in 1 turn; Madras switched from barracks to library; Nineveh switched from library to bowman in 2; Nineveh can grow faster while library still in 2; Akkad switched from library to barracks
IBT: Portugal starts Sun Tzu's; Babylon worker-bowman
630BC: ...
IBT: Madras expands; Nineveh bowman-bowman; Ashur library-bowman
610BC: ...
IBT: ...
590BC: ...
IBT: Babylon bowman-bowman; Akkad barracks-bowman
570BC: ...
IBT: our golden age ends; Ashur bowman-bowman; we are running at -1gpt till some deals run out in 8 - and it may grow
550BC: research turned off
IBT: Nineveh bowman-bowman
530BC: need a taxman - research on again
IBT: Babylon bowman-bowman; Elliph library-bowman; Indians finished SunTzu's in Bangalore
510BC: ...
IBT: Indians start knights templar
490BC: ...
IBT: Ashur bowman-bowman; Incas and Mongols start knights templar
470BC: ...
IBT: Babylon bowman-bowman; Nineveh bowman-bowman
450BC: ...

Akkad will waste shields next turn, but it could not be avoided - you can just switch to library if you like. All our deals run for 3 more turns and tie us heavily. We are buying a lux we need and would probably lose it when attacking Portugal (btw is this breaking a deal if we pay nothing; i.e. we payed before in cash or tech?). Incense will not be online for 3 or 4 turns. Thats when we will have to attack at lastest. We have a stack of 11 bows at Portugals borders with 2 backups coming.

Good luck.

alright grs, solid set :) looks like we're ready to take on Portugal and tex is up :D any idea what's in that town? spears, pike? maybe we can buy currency once those deals end.

btw, we will not ruin our rep if, by declaring war, we only cut ourselves off. If we were paying gpt or a commodity (lux, resource, etc) for that lux, then i think that's a different story as we would effectively be cancelling a deal prematurely.

Roster: 24hrs got it, 72hrs play it

The question is: whats next? We need far more towns and could only alternate back to India again, imo.
i think we're going to be forced to oscillate between India and Portugal due to the box we're in right now. settle aggressively, during and after the war, as microbe suggests, and we should get a lot of little towns. good to see they only have a spear there. hopefully, they don't upgrade on the 1st turn of the war :)

lurker's comment:
One quick question, since I've not played Babylon in C3C... are you guys getting any mileage out of defensive freeshots? I know archers/longbows get those, I'm assuming the Bab bowman does too...

Do we have any settlers lined up for some aggressive settling of Portuguese lands?

Don't think so. During the first war we probably couldn't do much settling as we won't have enough defense to actually protect it. But if Portugal has no iron, we can do so in the next war. We've settled the cow city, right? Could be a good worker/settler farm. We really need very strong military to do this, yet it's a culture game and we do need more culture..

@scout -> since microbe fought our only war so far, i'll let him answer that question :)

I thought you can only get one.

Edit - or is that what you mean by "town"?
