GozGram 1 - Hammurabi and The Code of Laws (100k)

I never got a chance to move the settler. The plan was to take Sagres, hold out for peace, move army south, settle and declare on India. Like any good plan, it worked until meeting the enemy. The settler was waiting for the army because, as grs's picture shows, there are 4 pairs of Indian border guards.
Losing 3 more bowman in a futile attempt to retake Sagres, I'm not looking forward to WE's with the remaining Bowmen.

I need to reduce the number of SGs I'm in so I can keep track better. :rolleyes:

Preflight check: Well, I see 8 Portugese MDI’s bearing down on us so I think it’s time for peace.
Sign peace with Port getting 5gpt and 10g

Looking at the Map, I think it’s best if we pinch the Indian horses :) Found Nippur S of Madras. This may end things sooner rather than later but at least we got 1 strategic resource during this game :lol:
In order to gain us another 20T, I sell India Incense for 156g.

IBT: Port building Sistine’s and Leonardo’s

T1: 230BC Rotate some troops S.

IBT: Indians complete Knights Templar. See the Portugese rush at least 3 more pikes into Sagres.
Indians are building Copernicus’

T2: 210BC Landscaping. Still can’t buy a tech from anyone.

T3: 190BC Build an Embassy in India and Cuzco just to verify how behind we are.

T4: 170BC landscaping

IBT: Zulus demand 35g

T5: 150BC build a road.

T6: 130BC

T7: 110BC

T8: 90BC

IBT: Portugese building Copernicus’

T9: 70BC Found Mt GRS. If that doesn’t provoke the Indians, I don’t know what will :lol:

T10: 50BC landscaping. Move a worker near Ashur so the town can work a roaded tile. Move the workers near Nippur to the forest so they can chop the temple build.

If we actually could gather the forces to take Dehli, would we get the Knight’s Templar even though we don’t have Chivalry? Would we get Crusaders out of it?

We should consider revolting in 3 or 4T and using a scientist to finish the research on republic.

Yes, poke me :)

That's a big IF, but the answer is "yes".

no doubt about that :lol: the flip risk would be huge as well, but with enough cat's or trebs, we could do it. well, it's incredibly aggressive and likely to fail, so i'm just grasping for solutions to our mess :)

Cats and trebs is on the list and Republic.
I got it and hope to survive. :)

i submit this this quote as proof that playing civ too late promotes poor brain function :) we are religous and are guarenteed 1T anarchy. I should have revolted to Monarchy as soon as I got peace with Portugal :wallbash:

I think we need to go into "cram a lot of cities into a small area" mode to increase both our culture and our research capabilities.

"we are religous and are guarenteed 1T anarchy" - Well, we got 2 turns for some reason.

Pre-turn - Whip temple in Nippur for 20 shields. Switch Government, 2 turns.

30bc - Nippur temple -> library

10bc - We are a Monarchy.

I could buy Engineering from Mongols, for our whole economy and out only incense. But with Republic in 5t, we might get a chance later anyways.

10AD - Madras library -> barracks
Elippi bowman -> bowman
Samarra library -> barracks

Disband a warrior in far away lands.

30AD - Rome declare on Inca. Inca demand 42g, which they get.

Babylon settler -> horse
Nineveh bowman -> horse
Uruk library -> barracks
Eulbar temple -> library

50AD - We lose dyes.

Zariqum founded on the coast NW of Babylon, set to build worker.

70AD - Ellipi bowman -> horse

90AD - Portugal declare on Inca! And they Finish Sistines.
Mongols completes Leo's and Copernicus!

We learn Republic and it's no great help for us.

I buy Theology from Mongols for 27gpt, 540g and our only incense.
Theology and 5g to Zulu for Engineering
This is rotten but Theo, Eng and Rep to Germany for Feudalism, 7gpt and 41g.
Theo, 13gpt and 34g to Rome for Chivalry

We got 4 techs for around 1200g, which I consider ok at this stage.

No research

I was hoping for something better, like a lux. 10% luxtax, have to hire some taxmen to keep up happiness. We get incense back from India in 3t.

Nippur riots :gripe:
Ashur bowman -> horse

Some intense MM'ing leaves up with 14g and plus 3gpt. :)

By the war-declaration of Portugal against Inca, all their troops left Sagres! And another interesting note, Henry is still lacking horses.

110AD - Babylon horse -> market
Akkad settler -> library

Switch Nineveh to settler, found a spot 2S of Sagres, what else can we do?

130AD - Nineveh settler -> horse

All the money in the world changed hands from Mongols to India, Gandhi got over 4000g!

150AD - Sippar founded -> worker

Switch Ellipi to settler, to grab spot NE of town.

Continue to build horses, if we can take Sagres or get iron somehow, we can build knights.
But that town is probably guarded by half a dozen pikes, yet we have to try to take it when Portugal is at war with Inca. Horses are better than bows.

Only Mongols and Inca have iron for sale, too expensive for us of course after I threw away all our gold. But IF we get a handful of knights, we may find a way to success.

16 turns left on the gpt deals. We have 9g in the kitty and make 4gpt atm.

Afterthought: If we can assemble 10 or so horses quickly, we can grab Sagres with help of bows. Raze the town and fill in with a settler.

We have a couple of builds than can switch to military and I believe this is the best way.

Anything we capture from India or Portugal needs to be raze and replace.

ok microbe, as requested. enjoy the luau :)

I thought that in C3C, it was changed so that religious civs had 2 turn anarchy instead of 1, which was the norm for vanilla and PTW. I'm still in PTW btw :cry:

OK, I got it, but I'm still working on the SGOTM. I will probably need the whole time.

Pre-flight – 150 AD – First I go back and read the last turn log. Looks like we have an aggressive settle in place south of Sagres.
Gozpel says 10 horses… we have one. :hmm: We could probably muster a force of six units right now given our MP requirements and poor cash flow. That isn’t enough to take either Jaipur or Sagres.

The peace treaty with Portugal has expired, they’re still paying us 5 gpt right now which is actually keeping us solvent. We’re probably going to be asked on the IBT. There is no way we could take Sagres with bows and horses if Henry has pikes. It sounds like peaceful build up turns.

I wonder where India got 4418G from?

F4 shows a mini-dogpile on the Incas. They’re at war with Rome, Mongolia, Zululand, and Portugal. The Portuguese have 15 cities, the Indians 9.

IBT - Sure enough Henry asks for a peace extension.
Ellipi: settler=>horse
:band: A new source of iron has just popped up south of Eulbar!!! [party] :band:

1. 170 AD – Better news. The iron was Portugal’s!!! :band:
An Indian Pike is heading north. Set up a block. Hire a clown in Madras.
Found an aggressive Izibia just south of Sagres.

There is now a War Elephant in Jaipur. :(

Since we barely have an economy, I hire a taxman in Babylon, Uruk and Nippur. Bumping the lux tax up by just 10% puts us at -7gpt. We only have 9G in the treasury. This way we at least have 5 gpt in the black.

2. 190 AD – Found Carchemish on the ruins north of Ellipi. India now has over 5100G. WTH? By any chance was this game made with the original patch? No, radio isn’t a tech in the IA.

IBT – Nineveh: horse=>horse
Ashur: horse=> settler

3. 210 AD – India is making about 300gpt right now. It doesn’t appear to be coming from anyone.
Using our new horses, I’m able to fire taxmen in Babylon and Uruk. That actually hurts us, so I just keep the Taxman in Uruk. The market in Babylon is now due in 5.

4. 230 AD – This has me concerned. India made 532G last turn, everyone else’s cash pretty much stayed the same. The only active trade India has is with Portugal. The Inca are starting to take in the shorts.

IBT – Germany joins the Inca dogpile.
Zariqum: worker=>temple
Sippar: worker=>treb

5. 250 AD – Our economy has gone negative again.

IBT – Ellipi, Uruk: horse=>horse
Samarra: barracks=>settler

6. 260 AD – The Inca capitol has fallen.

IBT – Our treasury is running low.

7. 270 AD – Nada

IBT – Babylon: market=>settler (that helps)
Nineveh: horse=>market
Ashur: settler=>horse (that hurts)
Akkad: library=>market
You’ll love this. The Indians are building Newton’s University.

8. 280 AD – Start hooking up the iron. I’ll use the settler on a packed in city.

9. 290 AD – Found Mari SW of Babylon. Gandhi has over 7K now. The Incas are really starting to fold now.

IBT – Temujin demands every gold piece in our purse => 8g. Since our advisor says that the Mongols fear our Bowmen and they outnumber us. I cave.
Mongols start Shakespeare’s.

10. 300 AD – Nada.

After Action – We should have iron soon. When our deals expire we’ll have some cash for upgrades. Right now we are a backward, poor people.

Except for the new cities I crammed in for some cash, nothing has changed.

What to say, iron jumps to us! :eek:

We were short of horses becuase I switch a couple of builds to settlers in the last minute. Good job keeping up the economy.

yes, nice set of tricky turns bugs :) really happy about that iron, now if we could just get some knights, we might be able to challenge someone!

We have a bunch of deals expiring in about seven turns. We will probably be able to make a huge upgrade just in time for Tex to go on the rampage.

We're in serious need of some markets.
