Haha, I started to wonder too and forgot our own rules :) But then, I'm a twit.

5. Warfare: we may only take or raze 1 city in any war we fight. We must then sign peace, even if we have to pay for it. Taking more cities during peace negotiations is very desirable. If the AI takes some of our towns, we may take them back and then take 1 more militarily. If the AI razes more towns, we may raze the same number in addition to capturing the 1 town (somewhat an eye-for-an-eye).

Where do we go from here?

I go ahead and switch Babylon and Ellipi to settlers. One will go in the unclaimed spot between Samarra(2sq) and Sarges(3sq), east of Nineveh(3sq) and south of Ellipi(3sq). The other will be west of Madras(2sq) to seperate Jaipur from Calcutta.

Did someone mention there are 4 Indian archers, 2 warriors and 3 spears surrounding Madras? Only one warrior is in our territory. I have 3 turns to protect Uruk and Madras woth more than one bowman.

Does any one know how we are getting our Spices from Mogolia? Teh only road is connected to Portugal. Thre turns to war then.

End Turn

430BC-1 Akkad bowman-->warrior for MP. Eridu temple-->worker w/o barrack I fortify 2 bowmen in Ellipi. Move workers to connect Samarra and send a Bowman to Uruk.

IBT Mongols ask us to remove our warrior. India moves a warrior/spear from our border.

410BC-2 Asher grows to 5 and gets a taxman and so does Babylon. The two scientists will not help us get to Republic.

IBT India swappes the warrior for a spear in our territory. Spice deal ends.

390BC-3 Ahsur bowman-->warrior for 2nd MP. We make 21GPT but that is close to Currency. I want Currency to get Map Making from Germany. Since Henry will not give it to us outright, we will take some Iron and Gems. 11 bowman prepare to fire from the mountain top.

IBT Mongols kick us out. Spear runs from Sarges to Nineveh that will be guarded by a bowman next turn. Workers go running to safety. Warrior emerges from the south by Madras. I see one more warrior on the road from Rio Jeneiro to Sagres. Incas an Mongols start Sistine's.

370BC-4 Babylon settler-->bowman Akkad Sagres still has a reg spear on top.
VB v FRS wins 3-3 and promotes.
EB v RS loses 2-5
VB v RMI wins 3-1
VB v 1hpS wins 1-1

We capture 0g and three workers and 5 resistors. Starts a temple. Now to hold it with 8 bowmen until we get peace.

IBT We get FP message. 4 resistors gone. Portugal starts Knights Templar. Spear heads to moutain and warrior heads back to India.

350BC-5 Nineveh bowman-->library Ashur warror-->bowman Ellipi setter-->bowman Uruk temple-->library Send bowman to kill warrior north of Sagres and wins 3-1. Two bowmen follow for cover. Faro, the next town east, has a reg pike. With teh extra taxmen in Sagres, I send Shake 22GPT and 44g for Currency. Biz has only 3g to go with Map Making but we need to see the next age. Well, Germany got the better of that deal all around picking up Feudalism while we got Monotheism. Monotheism and 4GPT to Rome for Monarch and 6g. Germany does not want Monarchy and Monotheism for Feudalism. Shaka will offer full value of Dyes, 21GPT and 81g for Monotheism. All of that extra income is still close. He will not take one of our luxuries. He wants both. He gets nothing else this turn.

IBT Henry starts to move on Sagres. Indians and Mongols start on Leo's.

330BC-6 Eridu worker-->library Samarra temple-->barrack Pull two bowman back to Sagres who were heading south. Three others head to Mountains. We will lose our Iron nest turn. I do not want to attack the spear in the mountains. Germany picked up Monarchy.

IBT The resistance in Sagres ends. I think it is due to the nine MI we can see. They seem to be looking at the 3 slaves I have sent to Eridu.

310BC-7 Defeat a spear chasing after a settler that starts Eulbar and a temple. The second settler is in Madras but I cannot move my bowmen down there yet.

We got them by ship I guess, but through Portugals territory - I mentioned that in my turnlog IIRC.

But not sure if that really matters now, that we lost iron and most half of our military, that we would need to take Sagres back. Is that already lost?
 
absolutely brutal. any chance for peace so we can at least save Eridu? other than that, it looks pretty hopeless. well, except for the nice tech trading :)

ok, i assume you can't do that till tonight, so, if the rest of the team wants to weigh in on whether or not to continue, please do so. i like the concept and wouldn't mind trying again if we want to end this right now. we can also talk about tweaks (ie, more favorable starting position or non-pangea map, etc.)
 
With our army lost, I think we need to sue for peace. Step back and regroup. If we had any military left would our variant allow us to retake Sagres?

yeah, the intent was take 1 city and then sue for peace. whether or not it was a see-saw battle was never really considered but i think it would be in the spirit of the varient.

step back and regroup is what we definitely have to do, as we'll need to get ready for romping elephants soon :) without pikes and MDI's, i don't see how we can counter. we need to see if we can buy some iron.
 
I wouldn't say lost. After seeing what happened in Bugs 2.1, I don't think anything is a lost cause. I think we will need to rebuild our military as quickly as possible and try and relieve some of the cultural pressure on Madras. Maybe a few combat settlers to claim more land.

Edit - also we might want to raze and replace.

I think we would have a chance if we weren't tied for a 100K culture win.

Frankly speaking with this variant deity is impossible. Even without the restriction, 100K at deity is already enough a challenge..
 
The 100k is not an issue here, that's easily achieved by building cities 1 tile from each other and rush culture. But to get there we must grab land and we are somewhat prohibited there :)

Flips are awful and losing most of our military in one really sucks. That's why I never put more than one unit in a conquered city, unless it's overwhelmed by countering units. It's a gamble and we lost this one, but I got my morning coffee now and feel better.

It's not over yet and we should raze and replace from now on. If we live that long :)
 
ok, i get from the general conversation that we stick it out :) good to have such a resilient bunch. now let's see if we can recover or at least hold out for the next 3 turns :D
 
Picking up, Henry does not want to talk. I'll see what I can get to Sagres.

290BC-8 Kill the wndering warrior in the south. Send four bowmen to Sagres. Abandon Eridu.

IBT Defeat a RMI 3-3 on defense. Rome and Zulu start Knights Templar.

270BC-9 Ashur bowman-->settler Akkad bowman-->bowman Henry will talk now. Alcarcer do Sal is doubtful. Techs are out of the question.
VB v RP loses 0-4 to promote Pike.
VB v VP loses 2-4.
RB v RP loses 1-3 to promote Pike.
1HP Bowman can do nothing. Now Henry will not talk.

IBT

250BC-10 Babylon bowman-->Bowman We can talk with Henry. Still cannot get a tech. Kill a Spear and a MI. that did not help all we can get from Henry is 5GPT and 10g. The next person can pull the trigger.

I have not seen a War Elephant but India has Chivalry.

Looks lost to me too, but we should try for at least some more turns - maybe with a good portion of luck we can turn it around. The biggest problem will be killing mdi and pikes with bowmen. Even with superior skills and good use of terrain this can only be accomplished with luck. With the bad luck of getting monotheism we are nowhere near getting longbows.

If we do we should use our units though. This settler has not been moved for at least 3 turns. We should settle with him here. This could cut Jaipur off, which could be our next target then.
