GR20 - Genocide AWE vs 30 Civs (try 2)

got it...flight will take substantially more beakers than all the other techs. I hope we can get that quick to be able to start a proper invasion.

Now, that we got only 3 active players left, we might have a problem of fast successions. I think, inviting another player at this stage might be a bit late though.

I think we are entering the endgame and there won't be a lot of turns left.

Everyone should feel free to take the full week if you need it. With only 3 players we can take more time and the game will get intense.

[Edit: I was able to techs in 5. If you maximize scientists and stall growth and builds, you may be able to get flight that fast. We are not near max scientists since I was able to get the techs in 5 and still grow.

played 7 rather quiet turns yesterday, guess I will be able to finish tonight as the fighting only starts at the end of my set.
After flight, the next techs can be easily done in 4 turns as we have now more than 700 scientists. The jungle clearing coincided nicely with the advent of flight and th need for airfields...
I guess markh will get the brunt of th initial fighting on the other continent.

Preturn
things look good, I like seeing all the bees at work in our jungles
succeed in founding a new city...

IT hardly any enemy action, combustion comes in, flight next

1.1680AD
pretty event less turn
MM and flight is due in 5 turns

IT in some naval battles, we lose 2 frigates to Iro frigates...we need more naval power

2.1685AD
raze Indian Izumo, almost lose a cav army taking out a musket
land 2 more armies

the RnG is really bad as I redline 2 cav armies taking out Gewauga on a smaller Island
both armies survive with 1 hp left

found 2 replacement cities, turn 6 landed units into mince meat, but fail to get a leader

3. 1690AD
raze Mayan Yokohama after taking out a Greek settler pair
plant a replacement city

after MM can reduce science to 60%, flight still in 3

4. 1695AD
raze Indian Nagasaki

5. 1700AD
reduce science to 50%, we now have 700 scientists
defeat 6 units and raze Shimonoseki, get a treb
sink a Iro frigate with a destroyer

found replacement city

IT flight comes in, mass production in 4 at 50% next

6. 1705AD
drop an army + settler/worker on the small island east of our continent
defeat 3 landed units and get another army, leave it empty to send over

sink 2 frigates with destroyers

IT Iro start US, if that mans that they just got industrialization, we are pretty safe I'd say

7.1710AD
raze New Delhi, we can found a city on the small Island
build an airfield next to it

the first big landing party with a settler/worker reaches the other continent

raze Kawauka and that island is free of enemy cities, keep the replacement for next turn

8. 1715AD
found a city on the other continent and build an airfield
raze Lahore, found replacement
send over 23 units, mainly infantry to help defend the city against the initial onslaught

use the eastern island as a stopover for units to be shipped way east

drop a cav army and settler onto 2 tile island at Eritrea

IT Arabs drop some units, the first units to get closer on the other continent, are the Indians..but not in reach of the city yet

9. 1720AD
take out 5 Indian cavalry and block the only access road with an army
defeat 3 units and raze Eritria, replace it there

more units arrive and we form a second infantry army to defend the air field
defeat 3 landed units, 1 Iro galleon and 2 frigates
send over 33 cavalry via airfields

reduce science to 30% (we got now 770 scientists)

IT the AI is still too far away, no attacks yet
we get mass production, tanks next in 4 at 50%
we get quite a number of workers, this will help over at the other continent

10. 1725AD
sink 4 frigates with the help of bombers/destroyers near our shores way up north
raze Indus and spot Iro borders, found replacement city
raze Matsuyama and found a replacement
defeat come closer cavalry and phants

ship over another 30 units
fortify quite a few workers, we can send them over eventually...

I think we should be easily able to take out the remaining Civs, we do seem to have quite a nice tech lead...modern armor should b able to rip through the enemy

Roster:
Greebley - On Deck
ThERat - Just Played
markh - Up
M60A3TTS - Currently Busy
Northern Pike - Currently Busy

markh, you get to deal with the initial rush. Should be getting tanks soon. With 2 infantry armies it should be ok.

[Edit: I would send some Galleons up north to grab the armies on that northern island. We can keep the island city free by staying at max cities.

IBT : the Iros land a cav at undefended Lonely

1) 1730AD : raze Chittagong
raze Skannayutenata

abandon Lonely and found 3 new cities

IBT : a lot of troops are moving towards us

2) 1735AD : get an army overseas

IBT : Iros and another civ land units on our continent

3) 1740AD : get 2 armies overseas
raze Kolhapur
raze Jaipur
raze Hakodate

found 3 new cities overseas

IBT : Motorized Transportation in -> Ecology as we get rocketry as free tech

4) 1745AD : one more leader overseas
raze Madras

found one city

IBT : Iros land in the usual place

5) 1750AD : raze Herakleia

IBT : another Iro landing

6) 1752AD : get a leader clearing the Iro landing
Quite bad RNG. We will have 4 redlined armies in enemy territory

IBT : lose three of the armies

Arabs, Incas and Mayas land on our continent

7) 1754AD : raze the island city of Oiug.... and found a new town

IBT : just the usual Iro landing

8) 1756AD : raze Pithom, found a new town

IBT : a Mayan landing this time

9) 1758AD : raze Knossos, found a new city

IBT : nothing

10) 1760AD : raze Thermopylae
raze Dacca
raze Delhi

get 2 leaders overseas

found 3 cities overseas

There are two empty armies in New Bad-Tibiria. I would fill them with cavs as they have better mobility over tank armies and they will be still useful against the Greeks and Mayans as they still do not have rifles, but I leave it to Greebley.

Ok, I got it.

BTW, the way to avoid red-line army loss is to work in groups and always keep at least one army healthy. We tend to be a bit lax on this on occasion - and in this case it cost 3 armies. NP, has long advocated sticking more strictly to this than we do, and I have come to agree with him. The important point is that the final army should not attack if all the rest are red-lined.

Not that it will make a difference other than slow our win slightly in this case, however.

Actually three were stacked and one was single. I did not expect they would do so poorly in the attacks. Maybe I was too optimistic and due to our strong position I obviously was a little too careless.

After a weekend of play I still didn't quite finish. I am on the last turn with most of the battles done and some random units still to go.

We have around 10 modern Armies already with 5-6 Armies waiting to be filled. I had two especially intense turns with excellent leader luck to get 6 in one and 5 in the other (before we got Synth Fibers). More recently the number of armies has been small with the MA going to fill armies instead of getting leaders. Only Cav with their single shots are going for Leaders. All tanks not in Armies were upgraded of course before being made into MA armies.

Started invasion of the Aztecs too. For tech we are going for space to get satallites in case we need to find some small island.

There are still a lot of AI cities, but ThERat will be able to take many cities on his turns. His turns will either be the last or there may be a few isolated cities left.

Great progress. A bit of good news, my RL issue looks to be resolved, so if this game is still on after ThERat and markh plays (pretty doubtful from the sound of it), I'd be able to play again.

Preturn: I think i will send the lesser armies acrosss. Rush a defender for the large transport stack.

IBT: Units coming at us but no attacks.

1762 AD: Attack and Raze Athens. Get another 5!!! Leaders giving us 6 empty armies with the one left over from markh. I make 2 Cav Armies, 2 Tank Armies, and 3 (+ all future ones) will wait for Modern Armor.
Build Wine Heaven on top of the Wines to get us our 6th Lux
.We start in on Synth Fibers. It is a long 9 turns, so I MM for scientists and raise science to Max to get it in 5. I am hoping I can turn down science a bit later

IBT: Lose a Frigate, but taking one with us before we die. Lots of We love the King day.

1764 AD: Hyderabad and Bangalore are Razed (Indian core towns). Leader luck opposite with only 1 leader for a lot of Elite victories.

1766 AD: Pharsalos is Razed (Greek). Replace it with a town on the dyes (7th Luxury).
New Bombay is Razed. Got 2 leaders. Have 2 Elite tanks so made another Tank army. Two more landed, so we have 7 ready for MA.
Up scientists some more including a few worker merges in some cities. Can now still get MA in 3, but could lower science from 100% to 80% so won't go broke.

1768 AD: Raze Bombay and Calcutta (India) Grab the last Lux when I build the city Silk Sheets at Last.
Raze the Iroquois cities of Thebes, Glanum and Abydos.
RNG Drek when a single Redlined Pike takes out 2 Cavalry.
Up to 10 Armies to fill now. Only 2 more turns so worth waiting.

1770 AD: Elephantine, Memphis razed (Iroquois)
Ephesus razed (Mayan).
City razing are worth some (fairly small) money that is keeping us around 1000 gold (otherwise we would have been at about 300 next turn).
Up to 16! Armies (6 leaders) waiting for next turn. May fill one or two with Elite* Cavalry since we have so many to fill and will probably get more.

IBT: Get Synth Fibers. Go for Space Flight to head for Satellites.

1772 AD: Raze Argos(Greek)
Raze Bengal and New Madras(Indian)
Iroquois Cities now have Infantry.
A set of (about 6) Cav on a hill prove extremely difficult to dislodge due to bad RNG. Bombard to 2 and 1 HP and then proceed to lose 3 Cav vs them, sword army massively damaged, nearly lose an Infantry vs a 1 hp Cav.
Mass upgrade of Tanks to Modern Armor. No leader since none of the upgrades attack.
Put 2 Elite Cav into an Army.

1774 AD: We are able to form 7 Modern Armor Armies (2 MA left over). 8 left to fill.
Raze Mendez, Nemausus (Cav Army drops from 16 to 1 hp and retreats doing 2 hp - Infantry in cities can be tough),Cervonermum, Chartres and Paris (all Iroquois)
Raze Karachi and New Bangalore (India)

1776 AD: Raze Grenoble, Paris, Marselles and Dijon. (Iroquois). Mayans are now seperated off from the rest.
Raze Byblos (Incan).
Raze Punjab and Pune (Indian)
Raze Rhodes (Mayan)
Got a Leader. Number of Leaders has been less due to concentating on filling the Armies leaving Cav to try for leaders.
Landed on seperate Aztec Island

1778 AD: Raze Corinth, Delphi (Greek)
Raze Mycenae (Iroquois)
Raze Tikal with JS Bach in it, Copan (Mayan)
Raze Pi-Ramesses (Incan)
Realize that I sent too many Cavalry for Aztec Assault. They have Spearmen! (and we could use more Elite units for the main attack). I even disband a leader I get there due to another oversight - no Settler to make a city. I take out two Incan cities with ease

IBT: Missed covering a square and we lose some Workers.

1780 AD: Lose Knight Army vs Iroquois city. Get Two more leaders.
Raze Hieraconpolis (Iroquois)
Raze Sparta. (Greece)
Raze Chichen Itza, Ratate Cortitanorum, and Palenque (Mayan)
Raze Buto (Incan)
Raze Indian city (forgot name)

Notes:
MM mostly good, but could be improved.
We still have 7 Armies wating with one more 1/2 full. However 16 MA will be avail for 4 more Armies next turn. We also have some extra MA about.
Total Armies is 56. At the start of my turns it was 35 and I lost one and built two. So 20 leaders this turn.

Space flight in 4.
Workers split between railing the coast. Improving more land, and workers on far continent to extend rails.

great progress :goodjob:

things look great of course...doubtful that I can finish this game on this scale.

Nice ! :goodjob:

As M60 can play again I would like to be skipped after ThERat. I will not be able to play on the next weekend due to some family business and on next week Wednesday I will be going to The States for two weeks.

Its always hard to tell even after playing so many games. Still I don't expect much when you finish and I wouldn't be entirely surprised if you did manage to finish in 10. The end can come so fast when it does come.

--------------------

I am not sure what we want to do for the next game. Any thoughts? Is there still interest?

If we are short on players, I was thinking of a more relaxed monarch game and see if any people newer to AW were interested in trying one of these big games. They are a lot of fun.

I would be up for another one when I am back home. A harder game would be nice. This one was much too easy. If there is not much interest from the others I would also go with a relaxed one with newer players.

we can try something really challenging, demigod on your big map...really stretching it, but good fun.

Btw, played 2 turns, this is slow going due to the immensity of the game. Managed to raze more than 20 cities though.

Lurker:

Greebley, I may be back in action in 2 weeks. It looks like I am going to be retired again. Do not want to continue the new assignment. In that case I would have the time to contribute to the mayhem.

It is nearly a done deal, but will know for sure by the 19th.
