GR20 - Genocide AWE vs 30 Civs (try 2)

Played two turns. RP we research before SM. It is just 6 turns. SM is abt. 5, so this suits us fine in regard to the prebuilds. Maybe we can squeeze in another tech while finishing TOE. Prebuild in Ur is at 14 turns, second prebuild at 20 turns, IIRC.

IBT : 3 monster galleys easily sink two of our frigates

electricity -> rp

1) 1530AD : just worker actions

set Ur on Universal Suffrage as prebuild

with hiring more scientist we get rp down to 6

IBT : The Ottomans greet us and get a declaration of war

2) 1535AD : mostly worker actions

IBT : nothing

3) 1540AD : we find the Persians and declare war

ship the next cav army

IBT : 3 Indian galleys sink attacking one of our frigates

4) 1545AD : not much

IBT : 2 Indian galleys sink our healthy frigate :(

5) 1550AD : the same as before

IBT : the Mayas unload a few units on our mainland

6) 1555AD : at leat some action, kill a Mayan knight, pike and musket which have been landed

IBT : rp -> sm

7) 1560AD : ugh, we get the message : Too many Cities !

IBT : nothing

8) 1565AD : find the aztecs and decalre war

IBT : nothing

9) 1570AD : not much

IBT : a sword attacks our army at Kyoto ????

10) 1575AD : still not much to do

SM comes in the next IBT. I do not have the numbers in mind, but I think we can research corporation while completing TOE. Severaö settlers are in position, but we need to raze cities. A second army is almost at Kyoto. The army at Kyoto constantly killed units in the city, but Gandhi still sends reinforcements there. Be careful with the army. Once a sword attacked our army when it was yellow. 4 more cavs are also shipped.

Preturn- Looks ok.

IBT- India loses 3 galleys and fails to sink our frigate. An Iro frigate has no problems sinking a different one of ours. Sci Method in, Corp in 4. Switch US to TOE. Have to put the city on a slight starvation plan to slow build to 4. Iro finish Shakespeare’s at Salamanca.

1580AD (Turn 1) Frigate is lost trying to sink a 2hp caravel. Kill a musket at Kyoto

IBT- Quiet

1585AD (Turn 2) Kill 2 Greek muskets at Marathon. LB showing.

IBT- Quiet

1590AD (3) Kill Mayan musket and spear and Coba is gone. Kill LB and Marathon gone with 3 workers.

IBT- Quiet

1595AD (4) Lose a cav against phalanx at Halicarnasus. Kill a second one with another cav.

IBT- Corporation in with TOE. AT and Electronics learned. Hoover in 2. Refining in 7.

1600AD (5) Get MGL attacking Halicarnasus. Switch over some scientists to CEs where aqueducts are going in.

IBT- Iro land at Bad-Tibera. Hoover in.

1605AD (Turn 6) Load up some more 3-cav armies to send overseas.

IBT- Iro make another landing of about 6 knights. Lose a frigate to another galley.

1610AD (7) Kill Indian reg pike and Edo is gone.

IBT- Quiet

1615AD (8) Disband trebs and cats to hurry up one stock exchange so we can swith prebuild to Wall Street in 2.

IBT- Quiet

1620AD (9) Do about 100 worker merges into science to drop the count down to 226. That will allow us to crank out the higher cost techs a bit faster. There are a couple more turns worth of improvements required in the old Roman lands, and maybe couple more in some isolated areas, but still plenty of workers around and more queued up.

IBT- Switch Ur from US to Wall Street in 1. The Iros are getting ready for more landings next turn around Dry Tortugas. Their frigates a tad more irritating now with bombardment.

1625AD (Turn 10) Worker actions in old Roman lands. Have a couple more loaded galleons by Nagsu that I fort for next up. Refining in 1 and done.

Post turn. 2 Armies by Mayan town of Satsuma. 2 more naval groups with armies headed east. One on track to arrive with 2 cav armies near Kyoto. Another group north of them with 2 cav armies can land on the Iro island with Kente, Kawauka, Gewauga and Goigouen. If science is increased from 50-60% next turn, that will bring steel in 5. Noted the Aztecs got stuck on a crummy island, so they can be swept away without much trouble. Doesn’t look like Carthage fared much better in the land department. Another possible isolated island. Guess we’ll need to figure if we want to go for flight after combustion.

Sorry--you're right that I'm still busy, but I should at least have noticed and answered your question.

I have been doing a lot of MM things (like going through all bajillion cities) and adjusting and reworking the scientists and locating units fortified in odd locations, so I only got 2 turns done so far in 2 days. Not sure why I was putting as much work into a clearly won game, but I was in a MM sort of mood and a empire this large gets out of kilter over time.

Hopefully the other turns will be a bit more quick, but it will probably require part of a weekend for me to finish. I am hoping I can post Saturday.

Iroquois have Rifles now, but I haven't yet seen Cavalry - they are landing knights so they do have horses.

I have pretty much finished and will be posting when I can tomorrow.

-----------------------------------------------------------------
Note that I have a portion of the workers automatically clearing Jungle. They will wake up when finished for orders.

ThERat, if you prefer to manually clear the jungles, I can wake them all up before passing it off. I think though that you will find enough workers to do things with. Once the Jungles and Swamps are gone, then the land can be irrigated and railed (it is already roaded so that no turn is wasted moving between jungle squares during the automation).

I know automation is frowned on, but this is just removing some of the tedium and isn't bad like full automation where the workers never wake up. Up to the next player though...

Good to see you guys still having fun with [c3c]. :goodjob:

Good Lord, it's been a long time since I had a look see in this forum.
It brings back a lot of good memories of reading SG's with Greebley, T_McC, Barbslinger, and Handy900 in the roster. Those were some great games, right up there with RB series with Sirian and Charis, and the LK series, especially with his modified WM. In fact I'm off to read GR13 right now. :)

Perhaps one day we will see you guys pop over to [civ4]?.

Perhaps one day we will see you guys pop over to Civ4?
Hi, Matt_G :goodjob:

Well, Greebley and myself started a good handful of games in Civ4. We had some fun with AW games, but the frustration was overwhelming in the end. I think Civ4 burns you out pretty quickly.

Personally, I hate the graphics clutter...it's so easy to miss some enemy troops. However, the main point for us warmongers is the weird concept of warfare (suicide artillery anyone? or no armies) and war weariness that tilts the balance towards C3C.

You could go over to the Civ4 SG's and read a major AW game that involved Greebley and myself as well. If I am not wrong, it was due to that game and the enemy monster stacks, that the interface got some slight overhaul. The game also included some pretty intense discussion with Sirian. :mischief:

Hey guys, I'm real sorry to say I am going to have to join Northern Pike on the sidelines. Due to a serious RL issue, I'm going to have to put playing C3C on indefinite suspension. This one is already decided, and has to be one of the more lopsided ones to boot. Go figure, sometimes the breaks just go your way. I'll still be checking in from time to time. Good luck guys.

suicide artillery anyone?

lurker's comment: I know... The AI always seems to place catpured units in undefended, easy to get areas, and even ones they haven't captured can sometimes be easy to get. They also place huge amounts of workers in a city that's being threatened by a stack of Tanks.

Hi Matt :)

Civ 4 just isn't designed to be an AW game. Its got a lot going for it but not intense warfare. I think though that the killer is the unavoidable war weariness along with an unfriendly implementation of it (unless it changed - haven't tried recently)

M60A3TTS - Understand. Been great having you and if things change feel free to return.

No, it hasn't changed. :(
I'm glad I popped into this forum this morning.
Reading GR13 has inspired me to load C3C again.
(That was sadistic, playing AWE with that shield poor start!)

Took awhile to remember all the graphic mods I used to use and such but I got it going.
I'm gonna fire up a game on LK's WM.
I always loved that map/mod. :yup:
Now all I have to do is remember how to play this game.
I haven't touched C3C in three years.

Enough thread-jacking from me. I'll be lurking as time permits.

The killer for C4 AW warfare is the stupid system of any artillery warfare. Who would send cats, cannons, artillery in a direct attack ? Furthermore the RNG seems to be really messed up. I have done some statistics and it says that you cannot believe in it. Finally it just comes to numbers as in many real time strategy games like Command and Conquer. Build as many tanks as you can and you will win.

Preturn: Minor changes - mostly making the shield use more efficient. For example, our city building the Army at 72 shields when 66 is the same number of turns. The 6 shields are nice for our shield poor coastal towns. A few builds changed as well.

IBT: Minor Iroquois landing. Get Wallstreet. Get Refining.

1630 AD: We have some towns that have been railed and have huge food surplus in the plains. Build a bunch of mines to get the shields up.
MM corrupt cities to be efficient. Going to use civ assist to help with worker actions and finding cities which are working tiles lacking improvements.
Desert looks like it needs irrigating. Some cities don't even have water yet. Will work on them first off.

I am able to build a city for free. Also abandon a city that is hills only and corrupt.
Looks like we need rails to get to more grasslands for settling.

Killed a Musket in the Mayan town of Satsuma, but take 7 HP and stop.
Steel in 5 turns at +12 gold (would have been negative without wallstreet).

BTW, Iroquois are Industrial but noone else seems to be.

IBT: 3 Knight Landing. Boat bombardment from Iroquois

1635 AD: Land on an Iroquois Island. Find they do have Rifles.

1640 AD: Razed Mayan town of Saragosa.
New Artillery attacks bombarding boats (some I needed to lure closer to land by moving defenders).

IBT: Bombardment almost gone as most boats go back to heal.

1645 AD: Attack Iroquois town but take heavy damage. Will need to heal.

IBT: 4 Knight Landing new city renamed to Iroquois Landing

1650 AD: Kill Greek city - Forgot to note the name.
Raze Kyoto (Indian).
Kill off landing (9th Elite Victory).
Here is a picture of where I think we should establish our first cities on the far continent:

GR20_AD1650.jpg

1655 AD:
Raze Kente on Iroquois island.
Raze New Calcutta (Indian)

1660 AD: Raze Kagoshima (Mayan). Peninsula in picture above is cleared.

1665 AD: Raze Goigougin on the Iroquois Island.
Raze Nagoya (Indian)

1670 AD: Healing

IBT: Landing of 6 Knights (Iroquois) near Fish N Chips just S of Iroquois Landing. First Cavalry (Mayan) Seen

1675 AD:

Notes:
Clear wetlands is automated to get of them once and for all. Workers will awake when finished. Doesn't clear forests - we could automate that too.

I concentrated on the setup of the invasion of the other continent on my turns. Sending over larger forces including many Artillery. Other units can be Air Transported (and will get there first actually) but Artillery will help weaken attacking forces when we plant a town.

So the action will start when we get Flight. Our first worker and settler will arrive about the same time (maybe a bit later - it is a long distance to go) and can build a airfield. We will also get our Artillery as well for defensive bombardment. I suspect the Jungle will be nearly cleared about then freeing up the workers for airfields.

Combustion finishes in 1 with little wastage ( 8 extra beakers to make sure I think enemy movement can effect it). Science towns are mostly MM'ed. However after combustion you may need to again adjust scientists vs civil engineers and growth. Flight will be even more expensive and probably require more scientists.

Building Libraries in part to keep within 1/2 Iroquois culture. Mostly in cities that don't have much else to do.
