[Graphic Mod] Varietas Delectat v9.2 [civ specific unit sets]

I'm playing the Vikings right now, and they seem OK. But I've only got as far as the berserkers. I'm afraid I've wiped out the Carthaginians, so I can't comment.

Don't worship me (yet) ;)
Pro primo firstly, I don't deserve it:mischief:
Pro primo secondly, I just checked the current Roman set and I realized I draw a dividing line between Rome and Italy at 1900 AD (ie. Infantry and mech. units...)
This is highly unrealistic, but if I did move the line back to where the Roman Empire ended, I'd need to remove quite a few quality (even though "fantasy" or "what-if") units.
So my proposal would be: Why not have a new additional civ for VD: Italy? I already thought about this: there are quality leaderheads such as Garibaldi and Mussolini (completely not good for the Roman Empire), there are cool Italian units by Bakuel and others, and there are alternative Roman type units for the really ancient units, and the dividing line could be much closer to 476.
Are you up to the task?;) I'm willing to provide you with support if needed...

Great idea, would Italy be optional, like the Modern Era Expansion/Hungary Addon?

A totally new italian civilization? I like the idea of undertaking this task, even if i like more the concept of continuity between Rome and Italy, as I said previously..
I agree with vdex34: Italian civ would be optional, like Hungarian civ; in this way, also, it would be easier to develop for me, because Hungary mod for VD can be used as a model.
I must say to you this: it would be my very first time I try to develop a mod, and I have no idea where I have to begin from.. you will need a lot of patience with me and my doubts! ..but maybe it's not so hard as I have in my mind... :scared:
You can send me via pm your suggestions.. everything will be appeciated! And, of course, we'll need a new thread! :)

The continuity is a good idea (and I guess necessary), but you can have it really early! (Like after the Roman Legions). Also you could have some of these for early (perhaps with some reskins): http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=312344
Starting with the Hungarian mod is a good idea, it can give you a good framework, you should only change it so it's Italian;)
I'll be patient with you;)

Currently I can say that we'd need:
- a good Carthaginian set (Bakuel promised it already;))
- a good Viking set
- more variety in the Byzantine set

Bakuel also mentioned making Viking and Carthage sets

- more ethnic settlers and settlers for different ages

The same imo is true for Renaissance age, there are plenty of civs without a good set of Cuirassier, Cavalry, Musketman, Rifleman, and Cannon, the units for that usually are either covered or in the process of being made by Bakuel,

Actually a few of the civs I thought needed attention have been made by Bakuel (Aztecs, Maya, Sumeria, Korea, Persia), but one that I think needs some more attention are the Celts.

As I'm planning to release VD5.1 pretty soon, please share any new error findings now so I can squeeze a correction into the release. Thanks.

As a reference these are corrected already:

- added missing texture for the Sumerian Chariot
- corrected Khmer Axeman animations
- a bit increased the size of the Spanish Machinegunner
- corrected Egyptian Pikeman and War Mammoth paths/names for shaderless nif
- corrected Pre-dreadnaught size for the Aztec, Natives (and possibly others)

and of course there will be new units added!;)

- a bit increased the size of the Spanish Machinegunner

It wasn't only the Machinegunner I was talking about, I was talking about most of the post-Musket gunpowder infantry using the Spanish Machinegunner as an example.

Then again, I can easily increase the size myself anyway.

I just wanted to give a small (positive) feedback: At the moment I am playing with the Romans, my newest unit is the rifleman. There have been quite some discussions, if modern roman units should be fictional units or modern italian units. But I am very satisfied with what I have seen until now. The heavy horseman still does look much like a roman legionnaire, but that is quite realistic, because some of the early gunpower cavalry did still wear armor, for example the spanish conquistadors who weared cuirasses. So I like it. The rifleman is the first unit wearing leather instead of an armor. Of course I haven't seen the more modern units yet, but if all of them don't wear armor, I am very happy about your choice.

Just two small points of criticism: I don't really like the roman pikeman, he does look very different than the other roman units and don't really fit in there. And somehow I think, he should wear some kind of spear instead of a halberd, because spears have been very common for roman soldiers. And while I like the roman grenadier in general, I don't think the sabre he is using does fit very well. Would it be possible to give him a roman gladius instead?

very good mod! i just tried it and this is beautiful even if it is still the problem of mexicans units style for meso-americans for industrial and modern age.
I know this is not your fault because you just put some unit pack together. So is it nobody who could make an mesoamerican (in what if? style) pack for post-industrial ages?

Yeah, I know. But I did check the vanilla stuff also and there's this size discrepancy, too. If you find it this critical, then sure, please increase it! You might even share some ingame screenshots for us to see how it looks.

Thanks for your kind words!
It's mostly bakuel's (or bernie's?) units, so he's in charge of those. I could add some other units, but those would even more differ in style.
We'll see, but I agree with you on these!

I'm glad you like it!
As for the mesoamerican modern units, who knows, it might be that someone will make those.

One thing I forgot: I was quite surprised, when I reached medieval age and my archers turned into slinger troops. An unexpected and nice idea. :)

Really? I didn't realize I had it there;)
Anyway, it should be the other way around, slingers turning into archers...
