Graphics Modification Requests Thread

I'd like to make two requests.

1) Has anyone done the Houses of Parliament in London? I'd love Big Ben in London!

2) Would it be possible to make a 3D (animated or non-animated) leaderhead of the fat bloke, Henry VIII?

I have a new 3D Leaderhead request:

Sam Houston

I'm thinking maybe somebody could use Churchill's body... not sure about the head, though.

One thing that bugs me about Civ 4 (and there aren't many things that bug me, to be honest) is the culture overlay on the mini world map. In civ 3 I liked the way culture influenced your borders and it was very clear on the world map, unlike in civ 2 sometimes. But in 4, culture overlay goes over the water as well as over the land, meaning that on anything larger than, say, Medium/Standard sized maps it's virtually impossible to tell where the land ends and sea begins, without actually looking at the area on the main screen.

What I'd love is if it could be made that culture overlay ONLY shows on land tiles on the minimap. I have no problem with it being over water on the main map, it's just the mini-map that bothers me.

I would like this too, very sad I don't know how to mod yet. Anyone knows if this have been done?
Smaller dots for cities would be great too:)

Given the lack of replies in this thread (with actual results I mean; there are plenty of requests around), I doubt this one will be picked up on, but I decided nevertheless to ask it anyway..

I've always wondered about to what extent Civ IV's city buildings are customizable.. We've seen there can be differences between European and Asian buildings and, with BtS around the corner, it appears there will also be new Middle-Eastern and Native American styles for cities..

Is there any way to take that one step further? As in German cities looking German, Dutch cities looking Dutch and so on?

Obviously that would take a massive amount of work and perhaps it simply isn't even possible to replace that many buildings, but it would definitely diversify the city graphics of CivIV even further!

Anyone think it's possible?

It's possible
but thats very unrealistic it'll appear soon - as you said it's a lot amount of job

for me making new cityset it takes around 3-5 afternoons for modeling /adding shadows / complete textures etc. - it's definitly to much for such diversification

Wow.. That's a lot of work indeed.. But it should be do-able.. Perhaps I need to look into becoming a more active modder for Civ IV.. I've done quite a bit of modding for SimCity 4 (designing and rendering my own buildings and such), but I'm not that familiar with CivIV's tools.. I guess it's time to start looking at some tutorials..

Thanks for the reply Asioasioasio! Could I PM you sometime in the future if I have any questions?

Yup of course you may ask - i woudl gladly help :)
If you designed and rendered buildings in 3d progrma you should be able to catch idea of making new models for civ4 quite fast.
Check tutorials section for graphic modding :)

Buildings and citysets are actually fun to make, but I always need asio to help finish them up for me. :D

^^^ If any of you guys are for it, could I interest anyone in doing an indian city set??

If I'm not mistaken Beyond the Sword will include Native American and Middle Eastern citysets. It could be that India will use the Middle Eastern sets, though I'm not sure..

That's my point.:) Indian cities are very distinctly different than east asian or middle eastern they are well uniquely indian.

Could someone make a lh of chiang ching-kuo? Thanks in advance.

Here are some graphic requests to make the Ethnic Diverse Citystyles mod close to complete. :)

For an African-style palace, (Medieval --> Industrial Era) I would like the Great mosque of Djenné. I know it's strictly speaking a religious building, not a secular one, but at least according to history the present building occupies the spot where a palace used to stand. It should be on a 3x2 position/format like the regular palace in Civ4.

For a Native/Meso American palace, I'd like a square-based earth mound as in the picture below, and a native american longhouse as in (or of) Chamaedrys native cityset on top of it. In the proper 3x2 orientation please! I would use it as a ancient palace for the meso americans, and a classical --> renaissance palace for the native americans.

Low priority, but would be nice: a split-up cityset between the teepee/wigwam -and longhouse part of Chamaedrys' native cityset so early villages have more variation. As new buildings I propose firepits as in hrochland's basic sioux cityset and the stretched animal skin as used in Civ4's camp graphic.

And now for something completely new: a Mongol cityset! :D
1 cityset would be enough, to represent the ancient nomadic lifestyle of the Mongol tribes. The style is preferably like the Mongol camp graphic in Warlords scenario's.
Some googled links to show more variation: yurts and ger.

Thanks in advance!

Here are some more pics for mongols:

After Genghis Khan, the city of karakorum was built up with great palaces and buildings so making mongol cities just gers and yurts wouldn't be a good idea at least during the middle ages and the renaissance.

I have a request: better farms! I am surprised that no one has made better farms, farms that actually connect with eachother from different tiles (there were many improvements in civ3).

Well, that's why I only need one yurt/ger cityset, for the ancient age. And probably the cottages throughout time. :D
