I almost tried Travian out a few months ago, but decided to keep playing Utopia instead. Which, by the way is another great online game.

I enjoy www.cricketmanager.co.uk, although some say it's not as good as battrick. Also it's only free up to a certain point, and gets ridiculously expensive if you want to be any good.

Kingdom of Loathing is great AND funny. I had a great character until my computer went zilch and I didn't take the time to start over.

Why was that a problem? The characters aren't stored on your computer, they are on their server. I know because I started a character at home, but I play him at work.

Just as well; characters are deactivated if you go more than 60 days without logging in.

The only thing I don't like about the game is the fact that you are limited in your total number of turns per day, although getting drunk to raise this number is kind of funny.

Well this game is an online with tons of players on. You have to download the client, but its free, as of now, because it is in Alpha Testing, so its not even close to being done buts I think its fun. You get a starship and upgrade it and fight the Armada. this game was for Dreamcast, but now its a PC game in construction.
