I've read quite a few of these message concerning this new patch. I've downloaded the patch (high spped connection that took very little time), but I'm not going to install it (just yet). I've read a variety of reveiws, pro, cons, praises and complaints. I have none of the special mods, but my concern is the post from a guy that now has problems playing multi-player games. That is ALL we do!. We play over our home LAN between 2,3 or 4 of us, along with several of the AI players. The only problem we have had so far is one game simply crashed do to some sort of 'exeption error'. That game is no longer playable. No mater what we do, within that game, as soon as we hit that particular turn, the game crashes, sends the error message to Microsoft and then the game completely exits on all the computers to the desk top (each computer has it's own BTS game disk/CD inserted). It is on the Archipelago map. It is not the map, as we've played games using this same map all the way to completion with NO problems. I was hoping the patch would fix crashes like that, but apparently it does not (from what I've read) so I do not plan on using it. Based on what I've read in the forum posts, it seems to have it's own problems associated with it. So far, I've read of no one that was able to 'uninstall' the patch, if they didn't like it
My game (on all computers) comes up with the following message, whenever we go to the Multiplay menue:
"New Patch Available" "An update is available. Would you like to get it?" "Patch name: Patch_v317" Then it gives you the choice of "install' or "cancel". If you hit cancel, yo just go on into the multiplayer set up scene and start you game. If you select "install", it freezes you out of the game unitl it is finished. The problem is, that after 3 days it still isn't finished!!!! I have a cable connection, so what gives? What is this patch and why does it not download/install?
Our computers are all Intel dual processor quad core with high level NIVIDIA graphics cards and 8 G or high speed ram, connected to a high speed cable internet connection, using the Windows XP operating system.
Older versions of Civilization (III and even IV) allowed you to easily create maps with "World Builder", out side the game and then play on these maps in Multiplayer games. BTS doesn't seem to allow this, as you can never seem to find the maps and the 'World Builder' only is accessed from the game. It is locked out in multiplayer mode.
