The Norse thought that too, as shown in the story where Thor and Loki are in Utgard and Thor's servant Thjalfi competes in (and loses) a race with Hugi, thought itself.

But, but... the Avengers movies have taught me everyone is Loki in disguise!

My world is literally falling apart.

Golden Greek ideas and signs were flowing to the Norse through nomismata paid to the Varangians since Basil II's rise to power ;)

As I'm sure you know, the Bulgar-Slayer was a contemporary of the first Christian Norse kings, by which time the Norse sagas were already starting to be corrupted by Christian ideals, not being conceived of initially!

Isn't there a Greek aphorism about how the worst sort of sage is a deceitful one? :mischief:

Likely loads... :D

One similar would be by Pythagoras:

Σιγάν την Αλήθειαν Χρυσόν εστί θάπτειν.
(to silence the Truth is like burying gold).

But sometimes if you have gold you should rather bury it, cause if found the looters won't believe you don't have more, and kill you for not leading them there as well :p

Best description of Unearthed: Trail of Ibn Battuta I've heard so far.
"After watching the whole video it seems to be Nathan Drake in a Tomb Raider game that steals RC cars from COD and then devolves into an Egyptian GTA3 still in Alpha"
-Tobias Davies, comment on Unearthed Gameplay and Commentary

So bad it's good, apparently.

Italics are the author's.
"These people added gold to money and managed to devalue both. That's not someone you trust with your financial future. That's not even someone you trust to dispose of a diaper correctly."
-on PaperGold charging $10 for a bill with $3.82 worth of gold, Brendan McGinley, 5 Times Gold Made Something Less Valuable

Fair question Mr. Shuker. Some do indeed argue B follows A axiomatically for all forms of media.
"There is considerable argument over how the lyrics and associated cultural values in 'gendered' musical genres are understood and responded to by their listeners, audiences, and fans. Are the artists' intended or preferred readings, embedded in their recordings and performances, acknowledged let alone assimilated into individual and social values and meanings?"
-Roy Shuker, p. 201, Understanding Popular Music Culture (4th ed.)

^Well isn't the answer to that a pretty obvious 'no'?
Communication both has some relative reality, and a massive ambiguity. If i say "a wasp is in the room!" you would likely instantly hurl yourself towards the door, lest you be met by that nasty anglo-protestant.

I'd go with "probably not". Seems to me people acquire the values first, then they seek out (and produce, for a few) media with the same values. Media can impart values, but I would be careful about ascribing too much power to them.

I can't shake the niggling feeling this might've been posted before, but I'm sure you'll beat me to death if it was.

Just some of "The Jews" wanted to kill him, and they were smart enough to get "the Romans" to do it for them. Other Jews were greatly distressed by it. Others didn't care.

Diogenes Laertios said:
Anaximander, son of Praxiades, of Miletos. He considered the Infinite (Apeiron) as an Arche (origin) and original substance, and did not involve Water or Air or any other. And (The Infinite) was argued to be able to change insofar as its parts, but entirely changeless as a whole.

:)

ps: translation into lowly English was done by myself.
