Greatest Earth Map in the History of Civilization

Silly question maybe, but how do I use this download? What folder do I copy this into? Is it considered a mod?

You download it to the maps folder in your documents.
You do need to enable mods before loading the map to get accurate start locations.
Make sure the "load scenario" box is ticked.

I'm working on an update with resources pre-placed.
It's a lot more work than I realised.

I copied it to the Map folder and then set up a game with the map (and checked the "load scenario" box, but I didn't get accurate start locations. What do you mean by "enable mods"?

Mods>Accept>Next>Single Player>Set Up Game>Select the Map>Check Load Scenario box>Pick Civ>Start :)

Is the map supposed to be listened in the mods list? If so that is apparently my problem because I don't see it listed.

Good map so far but my only complain is the you should give the option of being able to build cities 3 tiles away instead of 4.

No. Are you following the instructions above?
Do everything in that order.

Thanks. I didn't realize I could click "Next" without checking any mods.

I tried a game playing Spain on Emperor difficulty. I like the map, but the AI was really gimp for some reason. It felt more like Prince or even lower. Most of the AI civs didn't expand more than 2 cities, which is strange because on regular maps they tend to spam cities like crazy. Russia had a lot of good surrounding land, but stayed at one city for a long time. I played to about turn 130 and was so far ahead that it wasn't a challenge so I stopped. I will give it a try on a higher difficulty.

Amazing! I was thinking about this exact same idea all day, and swung by this forum to find other Earth maps for reference, only to find this! You beat me to the idea by just a week, but lucky for me you've saved me the trouble!

This version has pre-defined resource placement.

There seem to be a problem with the update. Every time I try to set the time to standard it automatically puts it of Epic.

Every map script does that when you load it as a scenario (which you must do to get starting positions). If you want to play a different speed than the map is set to, it's very simple just do open it up in word builder and change it yourself.

What would be the next step ?

Changing civs to be from circa a certain epoch ? Like BC or AD ?

I'm loving this map so far, and I wanted to thank you for having restraint with your resource placement, as opposed to most maps which seem to have broken the handle off the goody faucet. The luxuries seem perfectly balanced, with a couple right next to each capital, a third in reach, but making you work for more than that. I've only started games with England and Spain so far, but I don't think I've actually seen stone anywhere on the map that I've explored, was that an oversight or is it just confined to one area?

Thanks for pointing the stone oversight. I’m not quite sure where to place stone as it’s found pretty much everywhere. I could add a bit in desert regions.
The Nile valley was a famous source of quality stone but does anybody know of any others?
Have any of you found any underbalanced Civs that could use a production boost?

I've played this map twice one at Russia and another time as India. Playing with Russia I dominated the game only to lose to the Iroquois by a scientific victory. But, as India trying to go for a cultural victory I struggled with production. Even thou I had a lot of happy from the resource. But, overall good map. :goodjob:

I know map scripts often use stone to boost areas without much production, so desert and grassland areas without much forest or hills would be a good place for it. It should be fairly plentifully scattered, as it isn't a particularly big bonus. It would definitely be good to add a few plots of it around any marble deposits, to add some extra usefulness to the stone circles pantheon and stoneworks.

I've only played England and Spain so far, and while the production didn't seem too bad, I did feel a bit surprised that England lacks the necessary resources for the "stone circles" pantheon.
