Greco-Roman Scout (2/24/07)

Sorry I should have deleted the axe button and renamed the torch one to something more recognisable. As Chamaedrys said, it's the one called Scout_ROMAN.dds. Just the format I use for naming buttons so they are organised for my mod...

You could also use the warrior animations, which I think look better for this unit (for instance one of the scout idle animations looks stupid with the torch in his hand).

About the fire - with proper animation it should appear at the end of the torch in game. Also don't forget about the formation file. I never bothered do this before the screenshots so if you don't fix it they will look like that. There should be a tutorial in the tutorial thread for it, if you look :D

You'll get better the more times you add units.

Thank you Chamaedrys and Chugginator, i have fixed some of my problems. Only one persists: the fire of the torch in the civilopedia; it remains on the ground between the legs of the unit:

Sorry for my unexperience, i don't know how to fix all these graphic problems..

I have edited the file CIV4FormationInfos.xml, but I don't understand its use.. the animations in game work well without editing that file too..

Another little thing: does someone know if it's possible to force the text in the presentation screen to start a new line? When you add some stuff like UU the text goes over the edge :

Try TheLopez's Dawn of Man mod located HERE. It makes that screen bigger so that it can accomodate more text.

Well, the formationInfos have a great effect on units which consists of several soldiers (like all melee, archer, cavalry, scouts,...). If a unit is correctly added in this file, it's soldiers "stand in line" so they look more as a group.
The effect is remarkable. I would edit the formationInfos for every unit with several soldiers.
If a unit has just one soldier or object (like tanks, ships, great people) it can't use formations , so it's not nessary to edit the formationsInfos.

Yeah, that's a good point. I think I'll give him the Praetorian sword (slightly decreased in size) - and also maybe a backpack to make him look more "scoutish".

[offtopic] Actually, I think the Praetorian sword is much too long, also. The Praetorian (or Legionary, if Firaxis wants to be accurate ) carried a gladius, which was a short thrusting and stabbing sword, not one that is primarily for swooshing like the game often shows (although this was done). It was 60 - 80 cm long; by contrast, Medieval swords were over 100 cm long. So it is good to reduce its size graphically.

Chug: Seeing they your have mastered Fire ;) I was wondering if you could do a request for me, I'm interested in getting a generic Inquisitor unit to use with Lopez's Inquisition mod. Lopez created religion specific Inquisitor units by just mixing a Missionary with a few millary units. At the code level their all using the same mission and I'd prefer to have a generic unit as its both simpler and easier to combine with extra religions.

This torch would be great for an Inquisitor, the rest of the unit would be a black robed figure with the hood almost completely concealing the face (think Emperor Palpatine from the Original Trilogy). Animation might use Christian Missionary so that the torch is held up verticaly over the head rather then in a 'weapon' position. If you can do the activation animation then I'd recommend something that makes the flame flare up along with some cackling evil maniac sounds "Mwhahah" :mwaha: :mwaha:

Sure thing :D

Would you like him to be holding a book? (the christian missionary animations are suited for that, may look funny with nothing in his left hand) Also, do you want team colour with the black robes?

Yes I guess he dose need something in the left hand, a book seems the easiest thing to do. Team color is also a great idea, how putting it on the trim of the robe and or the book.

Ok, here's the Inquisitor. I haven't changed the face from the christian missionary yet but it doesn't look too bad. I'm especially happy with how the hood turned out - but I probably would have used that treasurer unit that came with the game if I had thought about it before instead of making the hood. Anyway, maybe he will make a good sith lord one day.

BTW sorry about storming your thread with all the Off Topic, Sepamu :(

Picture's attached.

EDIT : The belt is the team colour, and I attached another picture.

It looks quite nice already Chugg, Once I've got Lopez's inquisitor code in CCCP I'll encourage Amra to use this in his Mod pack, and I'll also likly use it in the Ket mod re-release when I get that done.

Graphically I'd like to see the hood cover the face down to just below the eyes to increase the ominous look, altering the face isn't a really big concern for me, I think simply turning the beard from white to brown would do. I also like your idea of putting Team Color on the Book either on all of it or maybe just as trim around the edge.

No encouragement needed. :D

Excelent the hood is just how I imagined it would be, if you feel the book needs any additional work like team-color got for it, otherwise I think its done and I have code to merge and Amra has some XML files to get ready.
