Greecemod: Not a Byzwank, Promise (EU4 althist mod creation/discussion thread)

Here is the new map:

Spoiler :

Blanked out everything in Europe/North Africa west of Greece until we know what's happening with Rome. That color in east-central China is placeholder for the *shogunate/*daimyos setup.

You do realize that the next expansion's going to alter the entire map, right?

We... well, no.
SK's deicded that this is just a concept, and we're waiting for AoW before we actually start the modding.

Love you're idea. Will be looking forward to it.
sadly, i do not have any ideas :(

(Parts of) Persia and Mesopotamia have been added. Persia is going to be somewhat like vanilla France, starting off with a strong central state and a number of smaller petty states/city-states/perhaps vassals. Iraq and its area seems to be a bit like vanilla Italy, complete with the Pope in Babylon (the preachers of the whore of Babylon actually being in Babylon is just too good of an opportunity to pass up :p).

I also half-seriously think the Temples of Syrinx should be a Hellenic heresy/reformation/whatever.

That somewhat fits to my idea for the Hellenic Reformation, where the religion "reforms" into three separate monotheistic faiths that represent one of the big three:

Zeusism
Hadesism
Posideonism

And maybe Rome can have a special trigger if they revert back to Hellenic before the reformation, they can create a fourth one focused on Mars/Ares.

I Like the idea of either a heresy/separate reformation for the Hellenic focusing on the Titans instead of the Olympians.

This is basically what I think. I love Paradox games, and I wish I had something to contribute, but I can't think of anything at the moment.

I don't have a preference, either works. Whatever you all decide.

So, Persia is catholic, right?

Indeed.

Thanks for your interest! Again, if you have any ideas, I'm glad to hear them, even if they pertain to already filled in regions - we can try to accommodate them as best as possible.

---

The only thing I've done is edit the North American NE a bit, such that all the provinces now connect in a solid bloc of settled provinces from Vinland to Louisiana. The two Vinlandic states have been slightly moved south, and an Inuit (or something) state added in the north as a counterweight, and a hopefully fun challenge - it will start out extremely weak and backwards. It's not big enough to warrant me re-uploading the map.

I also think Taurimark should join the Greek HRE thing, as its Hellenic as well, and gives an excuse why Scythia or someone hasn't eaten it yet.

Okay, a question. I had some ideas about Russia, and specifically, who settles it. With Slavs not being a thing TTL, it's likely going to be completely different. Who all should go there? There's a number of possibilities (Balts, Norsemen, Turks, Iranians, someone else I'm not thinking about perhaps), what do you think is best?
In fact, if Scythia is Zoroastrian, then there's a possibility an even great part of Russia is Zoroastrian, which would be very interesting.

ahem.

The Finno Ugric Peoples!

The original Inhabitants of the region.

Zoroastrian Finns OP?

Also. You should find a common place for this mod to be hosted once work officially begins that can be updated from numerous different people. An SVN repository or something along those lines, if you want this to be a collaborative effort.

Finno-Ugrics, Balts. Maybe a buddhist state in Kalmykia?

ahem.

Sure, that'd work, though I feel that there are too few of them to make up all of Russia, we could make multiple Finno-Ugric states, *Estonia and *Finland being the largest probably. The rest I suppose could be smaller countries, a lot of Balts, and maybe some Norsemen to partly explain how they got to Crimea.

As an aside, I love how "Moksha" is an actual ethnic group.

Zoroastrian Finland might be a bit of a stretch, but I suppose we can get it to work if necessary.

Sure, setting up an SVN sounds like a good idea. I have no idea how to actually do this however.

Finno-Ugrics, Balts. Maybe a buddhist state in Kalmykia?

Zoroastrianism vs. Buddhism in the Kazakh steppes? Hell yes.
Though maybe not the Kalmyks exactly, since AFAIK they're descended from the Oirats, who wouldn't have moved there. But I really, really like the idea of Buddhism in Russia. There's the Alans which a lot could be done with.

Wait, how serious a mod is this going to be exactly? I need to make sure before I start providing characters and nations using horrible puns.

My idea is for this to be a believable and relatively realistic world, and eventually have some kind of cohesive backstory, but at the same time I want it to be relatively lighthearted (moreso than vanilla), so some sort of middle ground, I guess.

The current map. I've added the start of *Finland, *Estonia, and the Buddhist state along the Caspian shore, but I have no idea what their borders are or should be.

Okay, so with that, here's what I think is left to plan out:

France and Iberia: They're still almost all (partially Latinized?) Celtic-cultured...I think? And Muslim.
Britain: Haven't the foggiest idea.
Rome: Waiting for Sam.
Central Europe: Still pagan? I kind of what a unified pagan *Germany but beyond that have no idea.
Northern Europe: No idea. Probably still pagan?
Eastern Europe: Ditto. I literally have no idea what would even go here, considering there are no Slavs.
North Africa: Muslims of some sort.
West Africa: Who is inland?
Sub-Saharan Africa: ...?
Arabia: Christians hold Mecca, Buddhists in Oman, beyond that, no idea.
Central Asian Steppes: Yeah.
China: We need to figure out the split of the Magyars and how exactly *Shogunate China breaks down.
Korea: No idea, some invaders perhaps.
Japan: Aside from what Krzowwh suggested, no idea. Mainland Japan is going to be an event chain in-game somehow.
Southeast Asia: Pretty much all of it needs work, aside from Sumatra and Christian Khmer.
Central/South America: No clue, except the Tupis. In fact, even North America could use some improvements IMO.

And even existing regions can still be changed.

Let's say we have a descendant of the ancient nation of Kokushi-koku (黒歯国) as a clan called Kuroba (黒歯). Would it be incongruous to have the starting leader be named Kuroba Momohiro (Momohiro Kuroba in Western order), for example?

Actually, this really is not much worse than the puns involved in the Aragon missions, so this one is your call.

Spoiler :
And yes, this is a legitimate idea/suggestion I had.
