[GS] GS impressions/random observations thread.

Which is ironic considering the RCMP has had an Air Service Unit for 81 years. Guess Firaxis think they all still ride horses

Hey, don't mess with my illusions :p

The 'jersey system' appears not to work as intended. In my current game I have both Mapuche (dark green on yellow) and Khmer (usual dark blue on yellow). I got hit by a surprise attack from the Khmer as I hadn't noticed the units near my new city weren't my Mapuche friends. Oddly, I don't recall having that issue before a colour system that was supposed to reduce confusion was introduced... It's also going to take getting used to that colours I associate with one civ now show up in another (France has Norway's colours this game).

This. 100%!! :agree:

So, while I have had my own little landmass to myself after eliminating Chandragupta early, the landmass connected to mine via shallow water has been in a near-constant state of multi-theater warfare for the whole game.

And I just realized I may have been fueling it and profiteering by selling all participants my excess strategic resources.

Attaboy Eagle!

In this case, the resolution benefits civs that have trade routes with you more than it benefits you. So don't feel too warm and fuzzy about it... :D

Yeah, in my first game there were no barbarians at all on my starting continent, and in my second they were insane. It looks like there may be a bug were barbarians are unevenly distributed across continents.

Yea, I had a Hungary huge continent start... on my own landmass with two short rivers, one CS, and no barbs.
In the game I played that had barbs (dido start), I only saw one barb warrior spawn (a long ways away). Lots of scouts, but no warriors.

Just finished game 2 of GS. Science victory with mali. Large mountain range and presumably the maori being in my game gave me a massive slice of Pangaea all to myself. Tons of desert and mines. I had to defend my city-states on the border with germany the whole game. They were extremely bloody wars, I was going through some hard times when Germany attacked so his field guns and cuirassers were cutting through my mandekalus and levied troops. However, I was able to outspend him to a stalemate while my economy and science ballooned in the industrial era.

A few things I took away from this game:
1. Mali is indeed unstoppable if it survives the early game, I had 50k just sitting around because I couldn't outspend my income every turn. I begrudgingly won a science victory because I could afford to buy spaceports everywhere (with faith too) and workers every turn. I did not even need to build campus until late in game.

I had the thought that one of the easiest ways to win is probably to set disasters to 4 to maximise the number of World Congress aid emergencies, play as Mali, and then just buy all the victory points.

I'm rather leery about that system as a result - I find 3 provides a decent number of disasters, but linking the disaster setting to the victory conditions doesn't seem a good idea.

I thought all Canadians still ride horses. :p

Why does it seems like floods and things only happen when my unit is standing on the affected tile. I know that is just selective memory, but it sure seems to happen a lot.

I only had one emergency to pursue as Mali, and while I easily won, and t didn't make much of an impact.

Hmm, I'm less than 150 turns into a Deity game where the target score is 10 victory points, and there have already been 5 aid emergencies.

I don't like the fact that World Congress resolutions force votes, which as I understand it cost favour assuming they pass, with no opportunity to abstain - so that even when none of the resolution options are of specific relevance I have to either spend favour of take an option which I calculate will fail
Your first vote doesn't cost anything.

I haven't been over to reddit in a while, but I imagine this is what it looks like; wall to wall yield porn.

you are not wrong. 90% of posts are yield porn lol. and at least one person on every thread saying, "I didn't get the xpac, can someone explain how you got those yields?"

Especially becuase so many city states give good unique tile improvements now. The only ones I ever bothered with in R&F were Giant Heads.

I was surprised to see Sweden make good use of Victor when I was trying to conquer it as Hungary. Due to her superior tech, it was a tough nut to crack with just swordsman. The hills and mountains in her territory were a slog to work around. I was pleasantly surprised and how much of a fight she put up.

First time Victor's ever been useful to anyone... even in GS I'll never bother wasting a governor title on him.

I just realized what Civ VI is truly meant to be- a Reddit meme machine!

Think about, Petra on release? Jungle Petra? Tundra Petra? Canals? And now, more ways to yield porn than ever before!
