Guess the Map II: witty sequel titles failed me

No, think outside of the Balkans or recognition of any kind

there is a reason why those tiny Caribbean and Pacific islands were on there, while Ireland is the only non micro-state in Western Europe that is left out. A lot (about half?) of the countries/territories here share something in common historically (and still do)

Countries that sent soldiers overseas for combat?

Japan is constitutionally prohibited from doing so, so I'm guessing not. What about soldiers sent on peacekeeping missions?

Canada would only be fourth, behind Namibia, Kazakhstan and Australia.
The stats from Wikipedia suggest otherwise:
http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/b/b1/2007Uranium.PNG

Canada 23%
Australia 21%
Kazakhstan 16%
Russia 8%

This is why I hate the Earth map in civ 4. Despite having the most U reserves and second most Oil reserves. We have 1 U and 0 oil resources on the map

The Commonwealth, it looks like.

Still have no idea though.

Yes, the commonwealth:)

It's not about troops or peacekeeping, Vatican City/Hong Kong and quite some handful of the countries don't even have a military big enough (if any) to do that

another hint, Kenya is unexpectedly the first country/colony to make it on this map

That's absolute numbers for 2007. Wiki also says http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_countries_by_uranium_production for 2009, again in absolute numbers. Now check what it is per capita. ;)

The only thing I can think of that started in Kenya is the greenbelt movement / ecofeminism. Uh, countries with local chapters?

I was thinking peacekeeping as well.

Countries where Russia did stuff?

I thought something to do with the commonwealth/empire looking at the countries highlighted in Africa... no idea what though.

Sorry I lost this thread guys. Got it deleted out of my subscriptions somehow (must have misclicked another thrad) and forgot about it.

Visits by Queen Elizabeth II, starting with Kenya, where she was upon accension to the throne.

Think more along the line of UK, diplomatic gesture and "something" that started in 1952

1952 was when Elizabeth became queen, and she was in Kenya at the time. I guess she's probably visited everywhere else coloured on the map.

Ah, well played. Why is Yugoslavia a different colour?

The Queen has never been to Ireland, the only country with which we share a land border? Wow.

It's in the works, apparently: http://www.stakeholdermedia.com/opinion/royal-visit-will-mark-irelands-coming-of-age/

She is due to visit next year. Charles has been several times.

It is surprising that her security was assured on trips to Northern Ireland during the dark days. Her first time in a helicopter was for her first visit to NI. That same trip someone dropped a cement block on the bonnet of her car from a scaffold.
