Southern Africa would be explained by S.Africa being on a wholesale international sporting ban, and what was then Rhodesia being there too. Good call.

I only elaborated separmu92's answer.

I know South Africa was banned but what of the bordering nations? They were independent at the time, and Cambodia and those in East Africa? I couldn't find info on them being banned or boycotting.

I was actually suprised that Germany was the only West European country to boycott the moscow games.
