Guess the Map V: A Map is Worth a Thousand Words

I'd like to point out that Mexico City appears to be the only pink part of Mexico, and I think the only part of a country besides the US not entirely filled in.

Really, you see the US States coloured differently, but not the Canadian States right above? But yes, Mexico City is a special case, and the Australian states are different as well.

No, it's not automobiles, but it is something legal.

Is it something to do with the environment - increase in forestry cover or water pollution / replenishment?

No, one hint I can give is to read my first post after posting the map again closely ;)

and here's the map again:

Edit: On second reading this post...

Ah, interesting. I was thinking that:

Purple=Allowed and recognised
Green=Debated
Red=Not tolerated for citizens, but tolerated for visitors
Black=Illegal outright/penalty for gay marriage.

Well, that sucks because now I have absolutely no idea -_-

... I think it's hilarious that you think the Mormons "tolerate" gay visitors ;-) Makes me think of that part of a movie

Link to video.

Actually come to think of, I've seen this scene in so many films now, it is a clichee... even if it isn't always Mormons on the outside of the door.

Which is:

Yes! I looked forward to that, because the answer is NO! Gotcha!

btw. what would the colours represent then?

So it has maybe something to do with...
...Gotcha (paintball)?

There's a reason I didn't cite my post. It's rather more in the context (read the question). I really can't give you anymore hints without getting too obvious. I feel like I am pointing already wildly in that direction ;)

Yes, you are. It's a map of same-sex adoption. I've looked at this article few weeks ago and couldn't remember what it is till your hints.

EDIT: Open floor.

Yes! Gay Marriage =/= Adoption Rights. I - as someone who is naturally affected by this - cannot understand the big fuss that is made about Marriage, but not about Adoption (or other ways of getting children). The thing is probably more important to me than a tax-reduction contract (aka marriage). [Of course marriage is as is adoption also about the hospital rights - meaning being allowed to visit your loved on in the hospital]

As the map shows, there are still some gaping holes. And mind you, the map is only on the legality, the situation can well be different in reality. And of course the whole thing is a total mess when you think about the different life situations. For example: If you have children from you heterosexual marriage but now live together with someone from the same sex, that is allowed?

Anyways: Black = Homosexuality Illegal
Red = LGBT Adoption illegal (Michigan, really? You dissapoint)
Green = LGBT Step-Child adoption legal (the above mentioned situation, you are allowed to adopt the children of your life-partner/husband/wife to ease the insurance/hospital/etc.-bureaucracy)
Purple = LGBT Adoption legal (kudos to Mexico City!)
Grey = is ambiguous because the matter is complicated (f.e. Adoption often has a marriage/civil union requirement), in France for example the (same) court once ruled in favour of adoption and once against. So the situation is unclear. I could have also painted Switzerland red, but then it gets more complicated.

:blush: My bad. I looked at the map quickly and while half asleep the US being partially colored was the first thing that caught my attention. Then I noticed Mexico City and decided to point that out and went to bed. I didn't have time to study it in detail.

No new guess from me, I just wanted to say that I am very excited to hear about the connection between World War 2 and the United Nations (Security Council) you promised when you first posted that map. If that fails to deliver... I mean I just can't see a reasonably close connection, but I'm eager to get educated ;)

I said it was connected to World War II as the UN was formed from it's aftermath, and the Security Council was formed to help try to resolve any conflicts that may arise. :p

The five black countries are Uinted States, Russia, Britain, France and China, they have a permanent seat in the UN Security Council.

They are founding members too...

Countries joining the UN by date? Countries elected as non-permanent member of the UN Security Council by date?

Non-permanent members of 2011/01/01-2011/12/31

Bosnia and Herzegovina
Brazil
Gabon
Lebanon
Nigeria

Non-permanent members of 2012/01/01-2012/12/31

Colombia
Germany
India
Portugal
South Africa

All of them are blue :p
