I see that it includes most of the tiny island nations, as well as powerhouses America, China, Japan, and the Asian tigers (no Singapore though). France seems a strange outlier. Maybe something to do with trade or economy, in the Pacific?

Every Pacific island country, most Caribbean island countries, think that has to mean something.
Its very hard to tell which Pacific islands are which on this map, but I think I nabbed the ones included in the data.
That being said, WIM is on the right track.
I think I read in National Geographic that Bangladesh has seen entire villages get washed away in floods due to storm quite often. The Tsunami or Tidal wave thing sounds reasonable to me, outside of China/Korea perhaps. I don't believe they get many big waves.Countries which have had floods over X height caused by cyclones in the past year?
