In Europa Barbarorum? They're sweet, but the best EB unit is definitly the Hoplitai Epilektoi (the elite classical hoplites)
Wrong. Hoplitai in general lack the versatility of TABs and other thorakitai. Throwing spears are awesome. Best EB unit in terms of cost-effectiveness is clearly either iosatae or sphendonetai, best in terms of "running everything over and being friggin' invincible" is the grivpanvar.
I like the Socii Cavalry best.
The eqvites extraordinarii? They're all right, but hippeis thessalikoi best them in all stats except slightly on the expense and upkeep, and frankly if you're worrying about money as Romani you're doing it wrong; hetairoi similarly overpower them, as do the Punic haParatim haQdoshim. Honestly they're only really good for killing off the boy-lovers KH, cos Epeiros, Qarthadast, and the Maks will rip 'em to shreds.

And yes Rhodian slingers are beast. They can tear up almost a whole regiment before the fight starts if I recall correctly. There only available as mercenaries in vanilla unfortunately, very sought after ones at that.
