halflings?

LOTR Elves are like this also, they are certainly not sanitised, and would willingly kill anyone who threatened their existence.

Yeah you cut out the parts that I said differenciate them from LOTR elves :p.

Well, in the Sillmarilion, one of the Elvish kingdoms became much like the Svalt's, using assasins to kill any who entered there land.

Perhaps include them as an event. A city of halflings poping up and asking for help. If a good player trys to protect them from the barbarians and evil civics is quiet cool.

Incorporating them through events would be perfect actually.

You could have an event that says something like "a clan of halflings have wandered near XXX and wish to set up farms near the city"

Letting them settle gives you a free farm and maybe +1 food. Or have them start a cottage.

Evil civs could have the option of enslaving them. I think there may already be an event that works that way.

I think it'd be an easy tip of the hat to this important fantasy race (in both D&D and Tolkein) that doesn't affect the game that greatly or distract from the theme and atmosphere in any tangible way.

That sounds like a good idea, actually.

Except it VIOLATES THE PRINCESS RULE!!!

It's so brief a mention, that no one would probably notice anyway, and just their name is used.

Personally I'm not that "childish" so I disregard a race just because someone somewhere wrote that his version of them are quite and like to eat, and be goofy (because others have written better stuff about them). So sure bring them in, not as a civ but perhaps as a scout. I have not played civ/warhammer for a while (for a civ versions actually) and I found it okey there, not that big a deal, but they where included.

But damn anyone that brings in something from "My Little Pony RPG".

PS
I watched a home-re-made movie on youtube some time ago. Someone had new sound on one of the final scenes (the bed-scene) in the LOTR movies. I'm sure you have seen that. I rewatched the movies the other week and yes, I can't that see that scene anymore. I mentioned this so, yes, it is easy to ruin something if you got the wrong picture on your head. So I do have understanding for all of you who doesn't want the halflings in. I can't help wonder if this is the real reason why Kael hate them so much.

Here's the thing. I'd notice it. And I know it violates the princess rule!

Some people jus don't get it. *sigh*

And some people just don't get that the concept of a specific race is not set in stone, despite seeing numerous examples of it in this very mod. It doesn't matter though, since it's Kael's decision, and he said no, so no it is.

I know, but ain't it fun to be so serious and have no one realize that altho you don't like idea of halflings cuz of the princess rule, you still aren't as serious bout it as you could be. In other words, if you keep all mention of Frodo, Bilbo, the Shire, etc. and make the Halflings gnomes instead, then I'm perfectly fine with em. Sides, ain't gnomes a better name than halflings?

Sorry to say this but gnomes are the Luchuirp. And Just to point this out, but cannibal jungle halflings seem like a human goblin crossbreed. Oh and D&D's current iteration (4.0) states them as rogues and warlocks, amusingly enough. Just a thought though. Oh and with the jungle men idea, you might as well add them as part of the Clan, and If you wanted a city dweller version, you could stick them with the Kurioaites or the Lanun. Something bout large bodies of water.

Um...no, the Luchuirp are Dwarves who build Golems. Golems are magically-infused inventions. Gnomes use no magic, purely science and alchemy. So, no, there are no gnomes atm.

Well, since there's a Princess rule, how about Rodents of Unusual Size?

Let the goblins ride them. Yo hooo!

I stand by my earlier objection to including a halfling race, but I don't understand the idea of, "halflings violate the Princess Rule, so they're not allowed". I don't see why they couldn't be darkened up a bit, much as the elves were.

I think that this "rule" is probably viewed more as a guideline. I mean, otherwise we could find plenty of violations in the game. Penguins, horsies, Guybrush "I want to be a mighty pirate" Threepwood (part of me would die if he was taken out), and, um... the Svaltalfar. Um, for the goth princesses.

Anyway, I think a retooled version of "halflings" (but why even call them that? It's a stupid, human-centric name. Why would they refer to themselves in terms of their size compared to other humanoids?) would probably work as a modmod if skillfully written, but I just don't see the point of cramming them into the base game.

I think the problem is, that Halflings are that cute little people, even if you "darken them up". They don´t fit in a game of worlddomination like FFH as a player. Just imagine Conan on his throne as a King, and replace the picture with a fat hobbit with big feet.

But a peaceloving volk of "loosers" could fit in a dark fantasy game for flavor, as some helpless people in need of help. If the bad one´s get them they will be enslaved, sacrificed, eaten ...
And the good ones have a change to prevent this. Without any gain, just to prevent evil. It´s a reason for war.

Maybe instead of a halfling race we could get an additional dwarven race, which accidenatly exterminated all the halflings in the world in order to fulfill some weird prophecy of theirs. When they start the game they should have a strange dance around a bonfire, while wearing nothing but their beards. This will make all the other races go "What the hell?" and the balseraph hang themslves.

And while we are at it, we could add Justin Timberlake as the new hero of Belsaraph (that would explain the insanity) and with a group of halflings (a 5 figure unit) with the promotion "Eat the Pork", that will eat all the pork making the target civ without pork for one turn. Another promotion that will be added later would be "Crispy Bacon", it attracts Wraiths.

:crazyeye:Sorry, was carried away here, back to you ...

For what it's worth, my opinion is that I don't really care for hobbits either way. However if they are included. I want the option to eat them or boil them in oil.

I think it's interesting though as a concept along the lines of a minor race (think MOO2).

I like the idea of an event of creating a one tile city in your borders (call it the Shire if you will) and from time to time you get resources/troops or just plain gold. Maybe a settler would be better just so the player could actually place them himself or herself.

However to really do it justice then it would require UUs and honestly I don't think they're that important to merit the manpower.

@DemonMaster: He'd also need three part special ability: Junk in the Box. Step one: Cut a whole in a box. Step two: Put your junk in the box. Step Three: Have her open the box and that's the way to do it...

**** in a box

It's not the princess rule, but more because of the concept of "races" in FFH. Since all the "races" were humans once, and that they were all supposedly descendents of the same immortal pair, halflings would simply be shorter humans that wouldn't qualify as a race. They are not different enough. Besides, we already have 21 civs, which most of us haven't even mastered yet.

Not so much Masters of Magic, I like Age of Magic 2 halflings more. It's a good depiction of how they would actually fight a war against the taller races.
