Han Jae-Moon

@ DefiantMars - support most of the points, except 2: The hybrids only getting 3 unique units isn't bad, core affinities only get 4. It's not that big a difference. And I like that Chosung is spies, but different. Saying it steps on the ARC is like saying that NSA's stronger cities steps on Brasilia's war score, since their both tied to military systems. If it's a core mechanic, there should be room for more than one sponsor in it.

Hybrids will also get at least the first unique unit for each of their partial affinities, and the ability to get off-affinity upgrades for them (which we haven't really had a use for before)

The same is true for the affinity perks. Hybrids will get their hybrid perks as well as perks from both their partial affinities.

Between these two forms of crossover, it actually does seem to me like the hybrids will be a proper "blend of both" rather than a unique new affinity.

I have mixed impressions with Han Jae-Moon.

On one hand, he is deeply deceptive and seemed willing to kill his father to lead the seeding.

On the other hand, Chungsu seems to be an extremely nefarious and controlling organization from the training logs.

Ultimately we don't know why exactly he is trying to co-opt the seeding.

Is it a noble motivation to change the culture of an oppressive organization's seeding?

Or is he simply power hungry? Or both?

Either way, it seems wise not to trust him.

Is it just me that feeling Firaxis is copy and paste the Umbrella CEO (Resident Evil)?
He is now a villain for me (I mean he looks...nasty like Umbrella CEO with Rain face...make INTEGR leader looks like a baby!).

By the way if they did put a Korean only civ just to boost the sale, it would be really ashamed. I guess we all will have to wait for Firaxis to tell us why. (I guess if that reason is valid, Civ BE in Japan is not high compare to Korea. Or most of the Japanese people prefers Miku or J-games...Or Metal Gear Solid. Or just probably they keep it for the real last.)

But strangely, if they really put just Korea only, how can they survive from ARC,PAC etc. when all Korea has is just...Korea? I think something must be missing. I guess either PAC or this new sponsor must stab each other before leaving the Earth for sure.

I can concede the first point, it just feels that they keep saying they're their own solutions but keep stopping short of the threshold placed by the core affinities.

But about the spying. I don't mind that there being multiple sponsors that operate partly in the same range of mechanics. My concern lies in the theme of "Enemy Within" overlapping too heavily with "Corporate Espionage". I'd venture to say that [spying faster and safer] vs. [getting science from spying] is much closer than [move water cities faster and water cities are stronger] vs. [more war score and diplomatic capital from unit kills].

Based on some of the translations I've been seeing Chungsu looks to be a private organization that now controls portions of government, has an interest in espionage. This *feels* like a permutation of ARC.

Supremacy? (Like in the image above)
Spoiler :
I think that's just first level Purity: brown, gold and red are all purity colours. Starts with a black suit, adds some purity red and ends in red and gold/brown (the one you linked as Purity with the red pocket square - also makes sense that the ornament is an incremental addition to the previous level).

I wonder what Han Jae-Moon looks like full supremacy? I bet he looks really creepy with the yellow eyes and cybernetic implants.

I think 1st thing is we need to establish if Eastern or Western Surname conventions are in effect.... I'm still confused about Daoming Sochua. I've been operating on the assumption that Western Convention was used and that its actually:Soucha, Daoming. (Last Name, First Name). So I think his name is supposed to be Moon, Han-Jae.

Suggest the mod to add (New/Confirmed 4th sponsor), I thought it was something post by spam bot, before hover over it.

At least they bother localize Civ5 and Beyond Earth in Korean... and Japanese and Traditional Chinese (for Taiwan)

IMO, Japanese may be pissed because they aren't represented and I think Japanese may take it that Firaxis loved Korean customer more than Japanese.

But as some said, the "compromise" will certainly pissed both Japanese and Korean even more.

If I were Firaxis I would put both of them to the next expansion or just a bit deceptive mix like Mongolia with Japan and Korea like united Mongo-Eastern gate so that fans in both countries will not think about it in a nationalist way.

And I don't think compromise choice will hurt both Japanese and Korean unless they put something like too similar face that can be the news (remember an embarrass news for Siamese civilization in Civ 5? It causes the game to be banned for awhile because someone claims that King Ramkamhaeng's face is similar to 1 of the politicians if I remember correctly). What I mean is that the normal people will not really piss at all except something that could cause to affect the mass (that shameful news is only mass in gaming community though). This is my personal opinion anyway.

Oh, it's been a while since I've played; I forgot that there's two levels to each affinity's appearance. I was thinking there's only one.

That makes a lot more sense with the red shirt. Plus, the pin on the tie can be seen as a form of ornamentation too.

So, Supremacy will probably have a yellowish/orange shirt and Harmony will be a greenish/blue. Hopefully, he loses the tie for the other two affinities, especially the later versions.

It's more like Jae-Moon as first name, and Han as family name. Even though Daoming Sochua is represented in a Western first-last name basis. Cambodian names are still supposed to use a last-first name form, but it's not always consistent in Western speech either, Beyond Earth aside.

This guy looks like he's dressed as a casino card dealer, and it seems he...

>puts on sunglasses<

...loaded the dice to get into the Seeding candidacy.

I think a novelization could really be formed around this idea.

Picture this: A pair of agents from a Purity/Supremacy-oriented ARC or Franco-Iberia travel to PAC on a diplomatic mission and are received by Daoming, who's beaming with pride at what PAC has accomplished since the early years of planetfall.

They're given the red carpet treatment by Daoming, who is only too happy to show her guests the latest advances and benefits of a fully Supremacy-oriented digital-robotics society with its impressive mechs and massive skyscrapers. It's all incredibly breathtaking and PAC seems to be on the bleeding edge of technology and progress in every possible way.

But suddenly, Tiangong comes under attack from Supremacy/Harmony hybrid soldiers and Aquilons from the Chungsu empire. Their units are faster and more adaptable with their biological components and PAC Supremacy forces are barely able to fight off the first wave, with our two protagonists caught in the thick of it as they try to escape Tiangong before it falls to onslaught of the alien-cyborg abominations.

And that could just be the first act.

I'm totally writing this.
If you don't mind.
I like to try my hand at creative writing sometimes and I am currently injured on school holidays, so I have nothing to do for one and a half weeks.
Can I? Please?

Monumentally ironic.

But if there's one thing most Koreans hate, it's being depicted as the bad guy regardless of how charismatic or brilliant. They like being the knight in shining armor, not the mad scientist. That's why you're seeing so many comments on that Korean site complaining about how this leader is a Western attempt to demonize all Koreans as deceptive manipulators.

Anyone can believe what they want to believe.

Anyone who is offended feel free to not buy the game.

Just because you are paranoid does not mean someone isn't actually out to get you.

This was a goofy sidebar to discussing a faction but whatever.

Well, wasn't Firaxis previously criticized with the previous storylines for lacking any personality or suspense? Just imagine if every leader's background was just the following: excellent, smart, innovative, inspirational. You do need stories like this one to diversify things.

What next? Germans and Swiss people will be up in arms refusing to buy this game because their sponsor's leader is a hipster?

Dan-gye. - Step, Stage,Phase, Echelon

Seriously, Sejong already made Korean Hangul really easy to learn.

That's not really good comparison.

IMO, Tying faction and it's leader to nations and people isn't exactly a great choices for diverse characterization. You can't really made warmongering or poor or psychopathic murderer and expect the player from nation it based on not being offended.

Stereotype and Racism is still a thing, it is a collection of traits that a people look on others. That trait can be used for making an interesting character but with faction as a nations in space, it can't be done without repercussion

This is a Korean name; the family name is Han.
He's still should be called Han Jae-Moon.

Daoming is also Daoming

Look at it more like Ender's Game.

The nefarious government has a secret program to find the best candidates for the seeding mission.
One of these candidates is so intelligent that not only has he has ascertained the secret program, he has also discerned the testing/response criterias.
Gangnam Ender eliminates one of the test givers, that is on to him, for his own self preservation.
Super Genius Gangnam Ender not only becomes the leader of the seeding mission, but he is also so awesome that he is a spy onto himself.

Will he use his powers for good or for awesome?

He looks like he was saying well you aren't telling anyone. I already sent the same message but it is saying I should lead. Sorry Father, I know filial piety means everything to you and I am going to leave to preserve the integrity of the people while at the same time create a new set of values for the colonists on the new world to follow.
