There are a few French swords in the neighborhood of Grand River, though none close enough to cause immediate concern.
The sword army is down in the SE looking after a Spanish town and a settler is on his way to the NW territories.
A French archer takes a cat hit then wounds a spear at Grand River before dying, and a few more French swords make their appearance. 1-0
330BC
Beef up the garrison defense at Grand River with some more cats and rush the walls now that shields are in the the bin.
The cats at Grand River are less than effective in hurting the oncoming stack of four (1 sword, 1 archer, 1 spear, 1 warrior).
A vet sword from GR kills the healthy spear 2-0
A vet sword from Salamanca kills healthy sword, light injuries. Then a vet archer kills the wounded spear, heavy casualties 3-0, leaving an archer and warrior of the four attackers, plus three swords in attack position, so I move another sword from Elvis into GR.
Army takes an arrow at Asturias and just survives an encounter with a Spanish spearman 4-0. Moves back into territory to heal at Oil Springs.
The Spanish have sent another settler team in from the north.
The spear in the NW discovers the tip of another continent.
The scary thing right now is the Deity flip risk levels at Grand River (French) and Oil Springs (Spanish). On the border expansion at 10cp GR's border did not push appreciably at Chartres. So that town has to go....
The forces at GR go 4-0 against attacking Frenchmen. 8-0
The Spanish settler team have somehow disappeared in 310. The trekking settler is heading to the forests NE of Mannyland to try and seal off the NW corner from wandering Spaniards.
The French have gotten smart and no longer expose their attack forces in the open -
The cats wound the a couple of French swords and an elite sword kills one, but there are too few really healthy troops in GR to risk injuring or losing and then have ot face the French, so the rest of the troops stay put.
The French lose two killed in the battle of GR, the Iro take no casualties. 10-0
In 290 we face only three attackers at GR and the cats hurt two of them. A vet sword takes out an archer but wins no promotion. 11-0
The Spanish settler has reappeared with his warrior escort, so I bait the warrior with a couple of Spnaish slaves and move the settler and two swords and a spear into place on the chosen settlement spot. If the settler builds on the spot the swords will take down the warrior defending and if they move forward I'll build where the settler stands and take the Spanish slaves.
The Spaniards move forward so I settle on the spot in 270 then claim the two slaves. 12-0
A Spanish archer attacks a spear on the road to Cattaraugus 13-0
The French flood of units is more than a trickle but less than a spate and the army is healthy so cats, spears, swords and the army start towards Chartres. a garrison sword at GR takes out a French sword advancing into our interior. 14-0
In 250 kill two archers covering the approach to Chartres and move the army forward. 16-0
Then kill a French sword at GR 17-0, a Spanish archer at Mannyland 18-0, then lose a sword at Salamanca in an attack on a French spear. 17-1, then redline a vet sword from the GR garrison finshing him off. 18-1
Build Greebly on the road to the FP site.
There is a French settler pair a-wandering towards the NW into the sharp blades of the two swords up there and a single French sword threatening Oil Springs, the Frenchman dies on the walls of Oil Springs 19-1
In 230Bc the French and Spanish are moving settlers around both north and south, the settler born at Oil Springs goes to claim the iron hills south of Cattaraugus and Elvis will finish another settler in 210BC. Cats and army are at the gates of Chartres.
The year 210 is kind of interesting. There are French and Spanish slave carriers all heading for the same spots. The first French mounted trooper appears and it is not a knight or a horseman but an Ancient Cavalryman. A French regular spear guarding a French settler at Centralia kills an elite sword. 19-2. But a vet sword finishes the task and we get two more slaves.
The French pulled a lot of troops out of Chartres as the army waited for the cats to arrive. I guess we'll see what they have left. In 190 four cats score three hits and hurt two defending spears (both regulars), and that's all folks, Army kills them both and burns the town which apparently removes Joan's source of ivory which is now outside her borders. 21-2
In 190 the French borders expand and she now has ivory again. Exploiting the breakout is not going to be easy.
Kill a French sword in the forest NE of GR. And another SE of the rubble of Chartres. 23-2
Trade Swords with the French at Chartres 24-3, but an elite spear kills the French AC 25-3
In 170 the army moves out into France but our spear in the NW discovers the Babylonians with a settler....Hello, Hammurabi, how are ya? He's got horses but no iron and knows Feudalism, so I pull his beard and run away.
Kill a Spanish spear and collect two more slaves. 26-3
The French land a single sword at Tonawanda.
In 150 the army steps all over Joan's ivory and moves on towards Rouen. Kill a French sword at the rubble of Chartres and a Spanish archer at Oil Springs. The French sword at Tonawanda takes a cat hit but no damage. 28-3
There is a settler at Greebley who was heading to the NW.
Various low voltage bogies are wandering into the territory. An Indian SoD (3 warriors and two spears) is on a mountain NW of GR. There are some Spanish (2 spears, a warrior and an archer) coming in from the N. Two French swords and an archer are inbound to Centralia.
The area of greatest activity
The FP is available to us and most of the worker force is in the NW working in advance of the settler to that site. There is a gang of slaves working on roads toward the French front around GR.
Tally:
Better than 7-1 kill ratio
Army on the loose in French territory and Joan has no ivory
Got beat to the NW by the Babylonians from overseas
Built three towns
Upgraded all vet swords and spears to MA level
Didn't lose Grand River
With the army on the rampage in Joan's territory it might be time to clean the Spanish out of the near lands, as well as take out Poitiers built by the French on the northern peninsula. The French troops at Centralia are more than likely on the way to reinforce Poitiers as they could be deterred by the walls and garrison at Centralia.
