Handy17 AWD Small

Celts - Three cities, but no contact yet, good food start.
Spain - Nice start with a pre-build ready to start
Vikings - Two contacts, only a city and a settler, not a good food start
Russia - Not my ideal civ for AW
Sumeria - Too close to Portugual.

I vote Spain first, then Celts.

I agree with Bugs analysis. Maybe we start with Spain and if things turn out the way they did last time, we try the celts second?

Sounds good to me also.

EDIT- I think I will play out my Sumeria game as a solo. It should be a good learning experience. Hopefully I can learn enough, fast enough to not screw up in the SG.

I guess we have a majority vote for Spain now, assuming Greebley votes for his own entry. So, Greebley, where is the save?

I do vote for Spain :D

My second choice would be for Sumeria. It is almost an advantage to start close to another civ with Sumeria. Enkidu are cheap and one can send them to keep settlers and workers in cities. You even have a GA to help spam the world with Enkidu. This is the most interesting game strategically.

Celts game is good too and I am willing to try it second if Spain falls flat.

[Edit: I will post the save tonight.

Checking back in. I am back, but I found my mouse dead this morning. There will be a funeral and a replacement service when the wife and I make it to Sam's Club to buy a new one.
Actually, I am now a grumpy old man. I saw my credit card bills from the first month of marriage, and that pretty well sealed the grumpy part. I am called an old man, as at 24, I am one of the oldest guys still in school and athletics.
I vote for Celts first, spain second, but it was kind of a coin flip on the 2 so either one works for me.

I assume we are using the roster on page 1 which puts Bede up. Anyone says anything different, please say soon.

Let's use the time zone rotation which puts me up
So I got it.

1 Greebley East
2 Handy Central
3 Bugs West
4 Rat Spore
5 bede east
6 Romeo central
7 Matt mountain

Bugs - can you edit post 1 for the order. That's the place I always look to see who is up. Thanks.

Another comment I plan to build a spear & settler every 5 turns instead of a warrior/settler every four. Warriors die too easy.

I think this start ain't as easy as it looks since we are surrounded by mountains. I vote for goind after WC and IW as techs before going for literature. The first AI stack is yet to arrive, we have to be careful about expansion too fast.

Handy, Investigate if you can go spear, settler, settler (repeat, repeat) every 4 turns. That should work if you start the spear at size 4 and the growth to size 5 gives you 10 shields.

So Switch to an immediate settler. It finishes when you are size 6 (first turn)

So
Size 5 - Settler
Size 5 - Settler
Size 6 - Settler
Size 4 - Spear
Size 5 - Spear
Size 5 - Settler
Size 6 - Settler
Size 6 - Settler

1950
A Mayan Korean, archer warrior and spear approach Barcelona, which only has 1 spear on flat ground with no walls. A Barb horsemen is also in the vicinity.
The rax is not due for 9 turns, we may have to rush it if the Koreans come in force.
A spear from the capital is going to reinforce Barcelona.

1910
Warrior spots our third lux (spices) in the south.

IBT
Masonry comes in and I waste 4 shields switching Barcelona to walls.

1870
Going to build a settler since the capital is so far away from the Koreans I think we can get away with it.
Kill some barbs for gold.

1830
Dutch finish Colossus

1750
The exploring warrior is killed by barb horsemen during the IBT

Notes:
Rax in Barcelona has 11 turns to go, so it can be rushed after next turn. I don’t think we need to do this since Korean pressure has been mild so far. If they show up in mass, maybe rush it.
I build spear/setter every 5 turns since warriors are not so hot on defense.
Walls in Seville are due in 3, then maybe get a worker from there.
Might want to switch rax @ Toledo to worker also. We need workers to mine our grass & connect the lux.
Researching Warrior code to get archers to deal with barbs & Koreans.
Settler is still active so we can debate where to send him. See pic below.

Lots of options with pros and cons.
We need the "Sea Tile" as a CxxC bridge over the mountains. The "River Tile" saves a duct build
"Canal Cities" are always nice.
"Volcano cities" suck and there are too many mountains nearby.
Need more spears before we get "aggressive"
Maybe a fort would work in lieu of "Sea Tile". It's too cramped if we build them all.
The hill N of "River Tile" loses the sea, but it is on the river also.

Sorry - I missed this.

I like the sea tile first, followed by river, then canal.
I think we should backfill first, then move forward.
I would not whip as pop is power.
