Yes, that's right, the ratio of the circumference of a circle to its diameter has its own national holiday. It is celebrated on March 14 (3/14, get it?). There's plenty of ways to celebrate, such as eating a pi-symbol-shaped pie, memorizing pi to a hundred digits, or calculating the circumfrences of circles like a crazed math geek.

More information on National Pi Day

So how many of you actually knew that tomorrow (or today) is National Pi Day? And are you actually going to do anything? In math class tomorrow we'll do some special activites (that's how I found out about this).

Since the date will be 14.3 (and not 3.14) I shan't bother celebrating.

Who says that the day should come before the month and not the month before the day? Besides, the loser of a congressman, as Napoleon put it, that thought of this did the best he could; there's no 14th month. :hmm:

Edit: Nevermind, you're from England. You shouldn't be celebrating our (keyword: national) holidays anyway, jerk! ;)

WillJ,
Calling a moderator a jerk is not always a good idea.

Especially a moderator who is friends with Odin!

I would recommend a swift apology.

Sorry if I offended stormerne, you, or anyone else, but I used a ;) smilie after calling him a jerk. In other words, I was just kidding. In no way do I really think he is a jerk.

A jest does not always work with the typed word I guess...:)

Nicely put Curt! On two counts.

I hate pi day and all that it stands for. The tyrany of math teachers world wide.

How come there wasn't a thread about the International Womens' (sp?) day on 8/3 (or 3/8 for you Americans) ?

What day is set aside to promote e? It was always my favorite.

We just brushed over e in pre-calc, isn't it like 2.37 or something along those lines. Thats rounded of course.

God your just full of happiness and intelligence aren't you SGI B...

go buy a gun or something

The significant time on Mole Day ought to be 6:02, not 6:22, I think.

I've not heard of anything special for e -- but I think we just may have found a way to placate stormerne. Pi doesnt work well in British style dates since there is no 14th month and no 31st day in April. But e (2.7182818284etc) has the opposite problem - we can get 3 digits in if we celebrate it on 27 January, but only 2 digits if we use 7 February or 2 July.

How will I celebrate e day? By doing something natural and base, of course! *smirk*

Knew about it? No.
Care about it? Definitely not. :p

Happy 3.14 Day :).

Here is a quiz for all of you :)
