:D

I am extremely satisfied with the latest developments, since it seems that at least one of three publishing houses will agree to create a book of a short story collection of mine :)

Up to now, in the two last years, i had 24 printed stories in literary magazines. However some of the latest work was far better than the older ones, and it appears to have attracted a significant for me notice by some publishing houses.

Even nicer is that the collection is of dark tones and themes, which (sadly, but anyway) the current crisis has pushed forward as a more prominent type of literature.

I am pretty sure that the book will simply be a huge step forward for my literature, cause regardless of how many printed stories one has in periodicals it is far easier to be established through even one book...

I wanted to share this news here, and thought it would warrant a separate thread and not just a post in the happy/rave thread :/ (mods, please find it in your dark hearts to allow this small celebration of a breakthrough :please: :) ).

Anyway, like i said, i am really cheerful currently :D

Congratulations!

Congrats, I hope you'll be a writer who will be remembered generations later.

Thank you :D

The hard part in that is to secure there being generations still to come... ;)

Spoiler :
I saw a workman fall with his scaffolding right from the summit of some vast hotel. And as he came down I saw him holding a knife and trying to cut his name on the scaffolding. He had time to try and do this for he must have had nearly three hundred feet to fall. And I could think of nothing but his folly in doing this futile thing, for not only would the man be unrecognizably dead in three seconds, but the very pole on which he tried to scratch whatever of his name he had time for was certain to be burnt in a few weeks for firewood.

Then I went home for I had work to do. And all that evening I thought of the man's folly, till the thought hindered me from serious work.

And late that night while I was still at work, the ghost of the workman floated through my wall and stood before me laughing.

I heard no sound until after I spoke to it; but I could see the grey diaphanous form standing before me shuddering with laughter.

I spoke at last and asked what it was laughing at, and then the ghost spoke. It said: "I'm a laughin' at you sittin' and workin' there."

"And why," I asked, "do you laugh at serious work?"

"Why, yer bloomin' life 'ull go by like a wind," he said, "and yer 'ole silly civilization 'ull be tidied up in a few centuries."

Then he fell to laughing again and this time audibly; and, laughing still, faded back through the wall again and into the eternity from which he had come.

The Workman, Lord Dunsany

I might buy a copy. What will the title be?

That's rad man congratulations.

Thank you all :)

It is more like pi rad ;)

As for the title, it is not set yet (i have only started early talks about the book itself, but all looks very good currently, and also two other houses seem equally interested). There are a number of possible titles, most of which are titles of some of the stories inside, eg "The passing of the Comet", "The Dark Star", "Far closer", or something more conceptual. I doubt any of the above titles are really that good for the book (too generic), anyway :)

Do you have any advice for would-be writers or novelists on getting published?

Write and think, and try to know one's own mental world to some degree. In the end we all have our own angles of view on what it is to be human :)

Also note that the first steps of having any work printed are obviously by far the hardest ones... Then people get to at least read in your bio that you already have stuff published (eg in magazines), so are more likely to at least spend time to read what you sent. Sad but true :\

Totes rad man.

(And props for using the totes rad term "rad", Mr Gro; that's like well bad wicked.)

Forgot to ask, because it's rather important: will there be an English edition?

Not before it has some success, and it is more likely that only after a second book (by that house or another) will there be a better chance of a translation to English :)

(it depends on which one of the houses accepts the book, too, cause each one has their own connections or lack of them in regards to English lit markets as well). But obviously the book will not be instantly translated to English, cause i am not that known! (currently :mischief: )

However after a book is out, i am pretty certain a second one can follow in a year or so, cause i have other works and will write better ones in the meantime as well.

(thank you all again for your comments..).

Have you considered putting some on amazon as digital? I thought you could post free ebooks there and even charge for some and I thought it was pretty easy to get it up there.

^I suck at translating to English and afaik it is a very bad idea to try to translate lit to a language which is not your native one anyway :D

So better to wait for a good professional to do it, even if it means a couple of years or something :\
