Black Breath Spreads in South and North West, Held at Bay by Northern Alliance Houses and Holy Church
With attention, manpower, and funds all being sucked into the Civil War, the Black Breath is left to spread and wreak havoc at its own pace. In the north it has continued to flow down the Thurian Peninsula, now thoroughly entrenched in Taran and Thustran lands, as well as spreading into the northeastern Isaakios and Koriates combat zones. In the south the disease has spread into the war ravaged western ex-Mpehs and Isthon lands, as well as follow the Southern Pact armies as they advance southwards into Faulhamer territory. The plague is only being held at bay in the northwest and Holy Church lands, as Polud, Koriates, United and Holy Church forces emply brutal methods to ward off the disease, killing any and all that show signs of the Black Breath.

Chance for Peace Dashed with the Battle of Owary Owary, House Polud
Talks between House Taran and House Polud brought hope of a truce between the two Houses, ending one of the bloodiest fronts of the Civil War. Additionally, the talks had included the True and the Holy Churches, with the prospect of reuniting the counter-churches once again into a True United Church. Hope fell through when the allied House Taran, House Thustra and True Church armies marched into Owary, intent on meeting up with friendly Polud forces to ambush the Arimathean clansmen. Instead, the Coalition armies met a heavily fortified Owary garrisoned by both Polud and Arimathea troops, as well reinforcements from the United Church. The ensuing battle included over two hundred sixty thousand men, the largest battle to be seen since the start of the Civil War, dwarfing the Second Battle of Castle Braxton during the summer, and in turn anything in the past four centuries since unification. The Coalition armies were outnumbered, with the Thustran Sword of Lightning comprising nearly a third of the full Coalition forces, while the Arimathean Uplland Clansmen alone had more soldiers than the Sword of Lightning. Along with the Polud Swellswords, the Alliance defenders repelled the Coalition invaders handily, inflicting massive casualties, though taking their own share of losses.

Royal Army Mercenaries Rampage As Treasury Runs Dry, House Koriates Sacks Isaakiopolis Unopposed Veniera, House Isaakios
The Northern front of Heaven’s Civil War continued to be a confused series of events, with the Isaakios - Koraites conflict this winter being no exception. Seeing the massive debt piling up from bankrolling the massive Royal Army, Lord Regent Alexandros disbanded half a dozen regiments of mercenaries to lighten the economic burden while he prepared his army to go on the offensive. Among those mercenaries being released, a company deserted to the Koriates’ Scout Army, informing them of the Royal Army’s planned assault on Nicosia, possibly interrupting the Scout Army’s own advance on Isaakiopolis. An unfounded worry, as on the command to march, the Royal Army imploded. The amount of released mercenary companies was nowhere near enough, and the House plummeted even further into debt. With no prospects for having their wages for the past half year be payed, the mercenaries still in the Royal Army went rogue, fighting their way out of the military camps and plundering the province. The remaining regular forces of the Royal Army were split, having to not only fight off the rampaging mercenaries, but also facing off against regular units that were also deserting. By the season’s end, the Royal Army was a mere fraction of its former self, and the few thousands of troops remaining were on the brink of rebelling. The rest of Isaakios’ lands were not in any better shape, with the capital itself, Isaakiopolis, being sacked and occupied by House Koriates without putting up any opposition. Riots broke out in Aonia amid a rush of refugees from Isaakiopolis and Veniera, leading to thousands of death. Without coin, the House is almost sure to crumble in the coming months, assuming it isn’t annexed entirely by Koriates first.

The Sanah Revolt Sanah, Kingdom of Sanah
House Taran officially handed the province of Sanah back to House Isaakios, but just days after being unoccupied by Taran forces, the people of the province rose up against the few Isaakios administrators, quickly killing them, before declaring themselves independent. They’ve named a young man distantly related to the old Dandale bloodline their king, and branded themselves the Kingdom of Sanah, and declaring themselves no longer part of the Kingdom of Heaven, as the Civil War has shown that Heaven has been destroyed. With a tiny economy, a barely functional peasant army, no allies, and a heretical religious and political stance, few believe the new Kingdom will last long

Battle of East Voirnoo
The Isaakios, Taran and Thustran joined together to engage the Toullies fleet, but in an effort to avoid the silent storms plaguing the southern seas, the fleets sailed north, intending to circle the entire continent to reach Summer Bay. They had originally thought to link up with the Polud fleet as well, but as peace talks had fallen through, the Salt Squadron ended up blocking their path through the East Voirnoo, resulting in a short, bitter battle. The Salt Squadron was smaller, but with a core of veteran light ships, still put up a fight, sinking more than its own number in enemy ships. The Polud sacrifice scuttled the Coalition fleets’ hopes of quickly sinking the main Toullies’ fleet, and with Isaakios on the brink of collapse, the powerful fate of the poweful Heavenly Fleet remains unsure, and with it the prospect of Coalition naval superiority.

The Choir Sings Kumar, House of Koriates
The hardened grey trees of the northern orchards continued growing, or more so appearing, in the lands surrounding Lake Celestis. Travel has slowed, and messages are often delayed by weeks, as roads disappear into the howling tangle of unnatural trunks and branches. Despite the frigid northern winter, beneath the trees is an oppressively hot humidity, the air thick with the sweet stench of a carpet of rotting fruit. The winds continue to scream between the trees, but it brings only choking mist rather than cool. And the orchards are not empty. Shadows and figures flit between the rows, their singing synchronising with the howling winds. The shadows grow, their numbers becoming that of an army. They march from the shores of Celestis, from their new palace of morphed corpses. A wall has risen around the lake, bodies growing into a wretched structure of hardened flesh, from gaping mouths grow branches of knitted bone, and from them hang bulging ripe fruit. The disciples drink its fruit, and their skin grows hard and cracked, tangles of corruption busting from tearing flesh and bone. Fifty thousand walk south, their chorus reaching throughout the north. The lady of north, Laminas, heir to the House of Koriates, stand with them, fled from her family’s hold. But she reaches out, and welcomes her friends and family to join her song. All will sing.

Stillharbour Recovery Efforts Stall with Lack of Manpower Stillharbour, House Taran
House Taran has taken commendable efforts to rebuild Stillharbour, but over a year of warfare and disease continue to take its toll on the province. All of House Taran lands are feeling the strain on manpower, as young, able bodied adults are either serving in the army, slain on the battlefield, or rotting in mass graves, and Stillharbour is no exception. The few remaining fields are being abandoned as the young and infirm are unable to tend the lands.

Uprisings Dwindles as Regent Lucius Abdicates and Order is Returned to Lion Island Toullies, House de Toullies
The controversial reign of Lord Portector and Regent Lucius came to an end this winter as he abdicated in favour of his daughter. Léontine was named Ruler of House de Toullies, and the title of Regent was passed down to her, along with the new title of Guardian of the Realm. The clergy quickly backed the newest Great House Ruler when a generous fund was set aside to build new churches, and soon sermons of the Guardian Regent’s right to rule were heard in holy halls across Toullies lands. Merchants likewise closed ranks behind their new Liege, as their concerns of lost revenue under Lucius’ reign were assuaged with a massive compensation to make up for the loss of trade, along with promises of favourable post-war rebuilding contracts. The change of rule was also received much fanfair in the form of a major tournament, drawing nobles and commoners from across the Toullies realm to participate or watch the spectacles. While gold counters had fits as the vast Toullies treasury emptied, praises for the new Ruler, Regent and Guardian of the Realm Léontine were heard in taverns, temples, courts and markets throughout Lion Island. The Peace was brief though, as the storms of the war would soon finally reach the shores of Lion Island.

The Double Betrayal and Invasion of Toullies Toullies, House Lamere
Early in the season House Lamere finally seemed to break under the pressure of the year long Polud campaign, its holdings reduced to a bruised and battered Davensport. Lord Alexander formally announced his House’s withdrawal from the Coalition of Heaven and alignment with the Grand Alliance. The announcement was met with equal amounts of resentment and relief among the Davensport populous, but most were simply apathetic. They tired of war, but war was not done with them. The Lamere Continental Force boarded the transports of the Fleet of Lamere, heading off to war with their former allies to the east. The fleet began its journey north, but soon swung west around Lamere Island, then south, much to the confusion of the marines. The confusion soon turned to excitement. By mid winter, warning fires along the north coast of Lion island raged as the Lamere Fleet emerged over the horizon. The Continental Force landed on the northern shore of Toullies province, and on the steep beaches the Lionguard tried to hold off the betrayers. Lion Island was one of the most developed areas in the entire Kingdom, and almost completely untouched by war, and this may have have been why the peoples of the island were not prepared to see war directly. Toullies was only lightly fortified, and while the Lionguard fought valiantly, it was greatly outnumbered by the Lamere army. After putting up a solid defense for a few days, Regent and Guardian Léontine was forced to pull her Lionguard back to Lamont, allowing the Continental Force to sack the capital and occupy the capital. While the invasion has come as a shock to both the Grand Alliance and the Coalition Houses, and indeed drawn quite a fair amount of criticism from the commoners of Lamere who were pining for peace, the seizure of the Toullies gold mines has revived the Lamere economy. Still, it remains to be seen if House Lamere can maintain its beachhead on the island, or if it will be quickly dislodged by the recovered Toullies armies.

With her own sword drawn, the Regent and her guards were able to hold off the attackers in time for a regular regiment of the Lion Guard to arrive and put down the mob. Toullies weds Arimathea and Faulhamer Amid Foiled Assassinations Hamlets, House Arimathea
House de Toullies took many efforts to bring stability back to its realm, among them two joyous weddings with Houses Faulhamer and Arimathea. The Arimathea wedding was a small affair held in a small port near Hamlets, but was not without its own spell of excitement. The strict Arimathean and Toullies security uncovered and foiled an attempted assassination attempt, killing or arresting over a dozen agents guards, wedding attendees and even clergy, who had been planning to murder the bride and groom, along with as many wedding goers as possible. Interrogation quickly revealed the agents to be from House Taran and House Thustra, bringing the ire of both nobles and commoners for the underhanded tactics. Torture did not reveal where the wedding plans had been leaked from.
The people of House Toullies overwhelmingly praised the weddings, seeing it as a sign that the new Regent, Guardian and Ruler of their House was truly set on improving the condition of her realm. The peoples of Arimathea, and especially Faulhamer, were less enthusiastic, seeing the marriage to an at-the-time struggling and controversial household to be a subservient and degrading act for their Houses. With future conquests on the horizon, House officials suspect most will likely forget their frustrations soon enough.

A villager, his clothes and flesh torn, stumbled into a patrol of guards in the Rreeastane countryside, rambling of a massacre in his village. Investigation soon found him to be telling truths, finding another villager utterly destroyed, the remains of the inhabitants strewn throughout the ruins. The man did not live long, succumbing to his wounds and madness, but before he died a number of his ramblings were recorded. He spoke of a woman coming to the village, naked and bloodied. Some of the villagers attempted to help her, but some of the rougher village guards had less than benevolent intentions. The man then screamed of a great beast, moving faster than diving hawk, tearing its way through the guards, rending them with jaws and wicked claws. It didn’t stop with guards, and set upon the entire village, leaving not a man, woman or child breathing or intact.

First Battle of Hammerhold Hammerhold
Following the drying up of Ironhold’s mines, House Faulhamer renamed it Hammerhold, just in time for it to experience its first battle. After a long stalemate with Faulhamer and Summer Pact forces facing off across the Castle Braxton - Ironhold border, the Mephs’ 1st Army of Gealot and the Natt och Dag’s Eastern Hundred Regiment advanced towards the slopes of Hammerhold. The Summer Pact forces had over twice the number of soldiers as the Faulhamer defenders, but attacking up the heavily defended slopes costed thousands upon thousands of lives. Despite the heavy losses, the Summer Pact troops pushed forward, using sheer numbers to break through enemy positions. In direct close combat the Faulhamer heavy infantry had the advantage, but the greater number of skirmishing and mounted units allowed the Summer Pact armies to out maneuver the stubborn defenders, cutting off their supplies and subverting hard defensive positions. The worst blow inflicted on the Summer Pact forces came when Natt och Dag’s Heir, Lord Johan Mansson fell during a clash with Faulhamer heavy infantry, with some even saying Lord Leodric himself landed the killing blow. After weeks of a brutally slow advance, Natt och Dag and Mephs succeeded in pushing Leodric’s Shieldmates out of Hammerhold. While no doubt a great victory for the Summer Pact, and the Coalition at large, the sacrifices needed to gain it may prove to be a far too heavy burden to shoulder as the war continues to drag on.

Foreigners Seize Ephexsea Amid Mass Disappearances Ephexsea, Vigh-Piris Dominion
House Iskariota followed the same path as House Lamere appeared to, capitulating to the Grand Alliance and forsaking the dwindling Coalition. In return for pledging support for the Grand Alliance, House Faulhamer returned Achurance to Lord Isaac, who moved his Iskariotan Army to garrison it. The Southern House avoided participating in the wider civil war this season, instead focusing on rebuilding its army, as well as constructing a grand statue of God in Ephexsea. The statue was the largest monument to His Grace in all of Heaven, standing over a hundred Godfeet high. Not all was well during the beginning of the season, with tens of thousands of villagers and townsfolk disappearing. The disappearances were initially unnoticed, as those missing were mostly beggars, vagrants or other undesirables, but the sheer number of vanishings drew attention. Further compounding the unease in House Iskariota lands came when the recently completed statue of God began leak a black, viscous fluid. It bled out from the statue’s eyes, mouth, nose and ears, and the once peaceful visage of God seemed to twist into a grimace of pain and sorrow. Faithful across the south made pilgrimage to the statute, whether they be from Coaltion or Alliance Houses, and fell before the statue to grovel and pray. But not only pilgrims came to Ephexsea.
Near the end of the season, a host of many-sailed ships appeared on the horizon, driving straight for shore. As they neared land, the sigils of a chained viper could be seen on the sails, and the port crowded as masses came to gawk at the massive ships as they came up parallel to the harbour and the docked Wheat Fleet. The crowds were scattered when the ships bellowed thunder and flames, the Wheat Fleet tearing themselves apart, sailors and fleeing onlookers ripped apart and tossed into the air as if dolls. The Iskariotan Army moved to defend its province as scores of ships brought strangely clothed, and even stranger coloured, foreign troops onto the shore. They stood tall and with dark skins, clad in brightly coloured, lightly armoured uniforms and gripping odd, thick, short spears. The Iskariotan Army advanced cautiously, wary of the foreigners sorcery but spurred on by the better quality of arms and armour. As skirmishers came into range, the foreigners levelled their short spears, and fire and smoke burst across their lines. Iskariotans fell in droves, their armour and fleshing bursting apart. The Iskariotan Army attacked as hard as it could, but even after finally making it to melee range, the colourfully unformed troops pulled back to allow armoured polearm wielding soldiers to meet the charge. Lord Isaac was forced to pull his army back, having taken massive casualties.
Word of the invasion soon spread across Heaven, with many dismissing it as southern nonsense, but others seem to sense the ripple of change, and fear it.

After much thought, much discussion with my advisors I have come to a decision that will change Heaven forever.
With Lucien stepping down, I was afraid this war will become nothing but a war for the fighting, a war for nothing but bleeding each other dry. Bleeding each other dry for no reason, while Lucien lives the rest of his lives in peace.
Messages between me and the new regent Léontine de Toullies have been exchanged in an attempt to find some sort of common ground. I am here to say it has been found.
First thing of order for a unified Heaven will be the trial of Lucien de Toullies for his crimes against me and the kingdom. What he has done to my people will not be forgotten and as a man of law I demanded he will be put on trial for the crimes he already admitted to have done. Léontine have agreed.
Her agreement showed me that while she is far from being worthy of being GOD’s regent, she at least can discuss common ground. She seems wise, for she recognises the threat of the foreigners as the greatest threat that the kingdom as a whole must deal with. We can squabble among us all we want, but we will all be conquered and die by those unknown people if we do not stand together.
And so I have come to a decision to change the course of my people’s history. I will declare my support for Léontine de Toullies as regent of Heaven. The exact details of this will be discussed between me and her, but I can tell my people and the people of Natt that soon their lands will be freed, and eventually rebuilt from the ground up, for I will do anything for my people.
I, Aegon Mephisels, declare my support for Léontine de Toullies as regent of heaven.
I call upon what is left of the Coalition to lay down their arms and join me. Let us sow the seeds of peace and prosperity for our kingdom, now that the taint of the demon is removed from ruling and is soon to be removed from our kingdom of heaven. Let us sow peace so that we will reap prosperity and greatness.
I hope my people will know that their well being is the thing I hold most dear to me, and with the stopping of this war, we shall invest more than ever before in finding the cure for the illness that has been killing so many of us.
And to end this on sweeter note. My daughter, Bela Mephisels, is now five months pregnant. She was married to the late Lord Johan Mansson of House Natt och Dag.
