hello. most current version? and stuff.

Oh, I don't know. You put Auric with the Priests of Winter, have the PoW's attack first, then have Auric cast it, they wipe out ANYTHING! Play on diety, and those four units have wiped out 600 units at once for me! I'd say that is pretty awesome .....

yeah, but he's a god. I expected more from him. I thought he'd be able to take a city on his own or something, but he's reduced to half health after the first attack.

Then don't do it! Just cast snowfall and destroy everything in his path! Why do you even bother attacking the city, there won't be anything left so you can just walk in.

You guys are talking strategy, but brxbrx is talking about the lack of potential. Casting Snowfall over and over because he's not strong enough in a melee to be "godlike" is a disappointment to someone expecting more. Instead of a "god," you have a glass cannon, which wasn't brxbrx's expectation.

androste, you crystallized my feelings and then digitally translated them into your forum post. no homo.

that was exactly what meant. It seems, though, that in rise from erebus he'll be more godlike.

I'm just procrastinating on reinstalling civ 4+expansions+patch+mod all over again

So, I got a warning for replying to brxbrx's comment in the above post. My post has been deleted, but it was just brxbrx's quoted "no homo" followed by me saying "/fistbump." I'd like to clarify and apologize to whomever took offense at my post (but not the previous post, apparently).

I took that phrase coming after a compliment as a lighthearted expression of platonic affection. I did not interpret it as a random and out of context statement against homosexuals.

But to anyone who did think that the phrase was discriminatory against a minority, and that I was endorsing the phrase, please understand that that is not the case and please accept my apologies for any unintended offense.

lol. I meant "no homo" as a tongue-in-cheek sign that I realized my statement was a little odd, and possibly interpretable as salacious. I was being ironic.
I have no issues with gay people. My uncle is gay, and he and his partner are some of the coolest people I've ever met.

try this vid for insight on the phrase

I didn't mean to get you in trouble Androste.

Yeah, I knew what you meant. And since I don't think moderators regularly patrol this forum, somebody must have seen only my post in this thread and clicked the

report button. The mod probably didn't try to understand the context of my post, either.

Ok, back to the topic. Like everyone else, the first time I got Auric I got him killed and said, OMG, t hat was ridiculous! I then learneed how to win with him.

I think the key issues really are:

Getting AA is NOT an automatic win, but it is pretty bleeping close if used porperly;
The way it waas implemented apparently left some people dissatisfied - a near automatic win wasn't 'supposed' to be with invincible spells but rather directly by smashing things.

I guess I'm OK with AA because I understand point one (especially given the potential of the Godslayer) and for me, the second point just isn't a big deal, I'm more of a gamer; so I don't care if I win by casting an invincible spell or directly smashing stacks. Indeed, I love taking down the new AI"s 400 + stacks with the spell.

I also think many people get my initial reaction, because they think he should be able to just walk up and destroy anything; but once you learn he becomes invincible, it really doesn't matter as much.

At least that's my $0.02.

Best wishes,

Breunor

Honestly, you probably should have won the game by the point you get Auric Ascended unless you're playing on a very high difficulty and/or purposely restricting yourself. The Godslayer is kind of silly too because if the AI knew its purpose, it would just give it to a horseman (or other high movement unit) and charge AA, ending his reign in mere turns. I assume the same would happen with a human player, although I don't see a multiplayer game lasting that long. Otherwise it is just attached to a unit in the strongest AI's capital until one of your units destroys them.

Agree with this. However, on very high levels it can be tremendous. One time my SoD had about 200 guys, but the Ljosalfar had a 600+ stack including summoned tigers. And Auric and the priests destroyed them all - it was awesome. I could not have won the game without it.

I do agree though that on lower levels, it likely isn't worth the trouble.
