Help a Rome: TW newbie

Thanks, I apparently put it in a copied folder rather than the actual folder.

Germanicus 12, mein Freund:
I hope this can help you--I truly do.
Here's how I got 2 versions of EB in my computer: I already have the [vanilla] Rome:TW to start with (of course, patched to ver 1.5 already).
Next, I copy the contents of the entire folder to a different, blank folder--it'd be better if in a different disk drive, if you have partitioned your hard disk.
Third, I unzip the EB pack in the new folder. This way, if something bad happens, I still have my original RTW safely tucked in its original location, unchanged. You could tweak and experiment all you want in the new RTW folder, and maybe delete the entire folder if you don't like the results.
But of course, your computer ought to have more than enough extra savespace in it, because you would have TWO Rome:Total War folders, at least.
And, if you have a little more space, you could make still another folder of RTW for another mod (for example, Extended Greek Mod, or my recently-installed Amazon TW), if you care to have them. But you could also put these additional mods in the same 2nd RTW folder that has your EB. [Personally, I like to have my EB alone in its own folder, and the other mods in a different (3rd) one.]

Is it possible to disembark in Corsica?

Are Pharaoh's bowmen somehow immune to cavalry attacks? I managed mostly to destroy my cavalries while trying those.

Do hoplites have advantage on cavalry only when defending? If not, is the advantage bigger when defending?

1. Yes

2. What kind of cavalry are you using and who are you playing as? As the Romans, Legionary Cavalry can win with the charge. Praetorian Cavalry will win with the charge. Equites and Roman Cavalry will be utterly vanquished by the Armored bowman, at range and in hand to hand. In general, don't attack with light cavalry, as missile cavalry will be destroyed, and only attack with the heaviest cavalry. The easiest way to kill them is to engage them with heavy infantry, though.

3. Hoplites (and all phalanxes) hold the phalanx best when defending, but it can still be used very effectively on the offense. If the AI is stupid enough to charge straight into your phalanx, then the effect on the number of dead horsemen will be greater when standing still.

Thanks! Where exactly you can disembark in Corsica? I've tried it couple of times, but couldn't find a spot.

EDIT:  Does someone else have also problem with computer chrashing when it loads battle map? It can be really frustrating sometimes, like couple of hours ago when I had already beaten Egyptians in a battle, and started another battle on the same turn. The autosave was of course from the begining of the turn, and fighting same battle twice would be boring, so I just quit the whole game.

So, is there something you can do to fix it? I think I'm patched already to 1.5, having RTW gold.

Ya, it happens once and a while, especially when you try to open too many events while another pop-up event is occurring. But if this is happening frequently... :hmm:

Well, it happens on average once a session. I have usually other program running while I play, so it might be lack of RAM (I thought it would only slow down the game though). But I guess I'll just save after battles.

PrinceScamp: Is it general rule that islands with no settlement are unlandable?

Islands with no settlement, (i.e no reason to land there) yes.
I've always been annoyed with that. Sometimes it'd be advantageous to put a watch tower on them, for purposes of naval maneuvers.

That's the exact reason I wanted to land in Corsica. When playing Julii it's a nice way to see that no one sneaks on your back. Also it would help a lot to control East Mediterranean.

It means fiddling with the map and replacing the terrain type. I don't know how to use or edit the RTW map files, and I know that there are significant issues with modding the .rwm file associated with the campaign map that you have to be careful of.

Ok first off, if you havnt done this before play as the julii they have the easiest campign. At no time should you stop expanding, the Gauls fall easier early on also. Make peace with the Germanic Tribes and Brittania, so you dont go to war with them yet. Build economey inland, your frontier towns should get the best barracks. Also upgrade to the next palace when avaibile. Also keep the senate happy early game, they are good source of free income. To win the game you have to control 50 cities and to do that means you not only must expand rapidly but you must also have money.

also dont let your funds ever go over 50,000, it will ruin your generals if they are currently govenor. And either use the always control option or always have a general in every city, the govenor sucks

That thing about funds is important - every threshold of 50,000 makes people go more corrupt. Never get over it (I prefer M2TW's system where you can pay for a project with your income for that reason)
