Help a Rome: TW newbie

Civilized people wanting to counter-charge the cavalry instead of having their foot troops standing around with javelins getting run over like morons needed to know about that Alt + Click trick a few years ago. :)

Civilised people don't need to use infantry to counter-charge enemy cavalry. Their cavalry would have made sure there's no enemy cavalry around ;)

Is there any way to dual-install EB and R:TR? I already have the R:TR install that doesn't overwrite the base game files...is there a similar EB package?

I think you can still play vanilla RTW fine with EB installed. So I don't think EB actually overwrites the base game files. Not sure, though.

Just reinstall the game into a different folder. I had a blank copy of vanilla which I just copied over to a new folder every time I wanted to try out a new mod.

I'm not sure about installing the game from the disc, it may ask you to uninstall, in which case I'm not sure but renaming the folder you have the game installed in should work (you can change the name back later).

EB is modfoldered

I'm playing EB 1.2 right now.

Its sometime in the 210s BC, and I'm playing as Rome on medium difficulty. My first game in EB.

I've come across the Sweboz and Qarthadast reform marker problems before, but neither of those fixes solves my problem for more than a turn or two.

Qarthadast are dead, and the Sweboz are very quickly on their way there. I have five legions parading around Northern Europe.

My problem is: the game crashes when I hit end turn. Why?

EDIT: Oh, and I knew I had another question. What are the triggers for the Marian reforms? I know it has to be a certain year, but what is it?

I have the same problem myself.

Best solution is to turn off FoW, watch enemy movement without speeding up and see where the game crashes then try to prevent whatever happens using cheats or by doing things differently.

The game can crash for many reasons, such as when both the faction leader and heir of a faction are killed in the same battle. The game also tends to crash during revolts if cities try to rebel to factions that are already dead.

Try posting on the EB site; or contact a developer. Odds are they at least know what the bugs are, and so you can cheat them out

Cheat? You use a cheat to avoid a program crash? Maybe something's wrong with the code in the first place. That's a nice idea--contact the EB team. They're very nice people who'll treat you very well. Hawooh.

Uh, why not? Some things are hard-coded, by the way. And even if they could do something about it, it would consume so much time and effort that it's not worth it. Otherwise the problem would've been corrected by now. They've got EB2 to work on too and they aren't even paid programmers.

They'd ask you to read the FAQ first, which, guess what, says the same thing I said!

Personally, I would play as the Seleucids, but the AI always declares war, and the only time I've seen them succeed is pulling back to three islands, then getting the best troops and marching on Greece.

Are you mad? The Seleucids are brilliant! just get Scythed chariots and have them bulldoze through phalanxes, testudos, horse archers... You name it, the Seleucids have ripped through it under my command!:king:

Turn after you build an Imperial Palace.:D

Yeah, I have since gone back and replayed as the Seleucids. Levy pikemen do surprising well as stop gap units until you can get phalanx pikemen. Then it becomes a lot easier.

I don't play vanilla RTW much anymore, I blame EB for that.

We're talking about EB, so no. I think FP has it right, a Popularis general, but I think I remember reading a year requirement at some point. Maybe 175 BC?

Meh, it doesn't matter, my game is hopelessly lost because of that stupid crash problem.

It has to be at least 172 BC, you have to have more than 6 Latifundia in Italy, you have to hold at least 45 settlements, you have to have a character that is Sharp/Charismatic/Vigorous, a Popularis, and Consul/Ex-Consul with influence and command both greater than 2, and you have to have fought more than 250 battles.

Or you could just hold 90 settlements.

Play as Greece. Use Spartans. You win.

If I may say so, of the roman nations, Brutii are the easiest, Julii average, and the Scipii hardest. Parthians are overall the best faction.
