You have a high pagefile use - was that Dxdiag taken whilst Civ was running ? If so please post one without Civ running.

If Civ was not running - that would be abnormally high and indicate you have large numbers of background programs running. If the latter shut them down, empty the sys tray of all except the most essential - includes anti-v and firewall until you get going properly (just go off line whilst fault finding). The less in the background the better to find the fault, can add back stuff later bit by bit

i don't quite get the pagefile number thing - i mean it makes sense what your saying - but this is a fresh new install on new sata hard drives, and i do have norton antivirus and systemworks, and ATI control centre - but they are the only programs other than windows standard running - no civ4 was not running while the dxdiag file was created.

why am i looking at having to shut these programs down when surely they should run fine.

Plus, i am kind of unsure what to do next if even shutting these programs down doesn't work. where do i start at then

thanks for you help so far.

Norton sends my game to the desk top. Its the devil.

451mb page file is way high.

Try running game by itself nothing in the back ground.

start/run

type in:

msconfig

disable all under startup items.

disable all non ms services under services tab. Easiest way to do that without screwing up is to check the hide all ms services box first then disable the rest. Just make sure you check that box first.

Ps.

Norton will continue to run in the back ground unless you take out its sevices too. just disableing norton often times does not work.
