Hi! A few weeks ago i bought Civilization 4. I Patched the game and began playing a game, I found the game to be fun and enjoyable, however something has happend! I am finding that when i'm not playing the game I'm thinking about it, Tactics, wars, plans. Iv'e found this game to be extremly obsessive. Is this normal and should i start reaserching Gunpowder or economics next?

Is this sincere or subliminal messaging designed to make people play more civ?

I wouldn't worry much about Gunpowder unless you have some hyper aggresive jerk like Montezuma for a neighbor. Definately take econ if you can get it first.

No , no stick with Mercantilsm , keep the borders closed and research gunpowder...(I here the voices..they're all after me)..

Well, help is on the way. Next month GalCiv 2 will be out which will help get your mind off civ4. Then half time you be thinking about civ4 ; taking on the world and the other half Galciv 2; taking on the galaxy.

Ha!

That's normal. I've been reading a history of the Yom Kippur War. As I read it, I end up wondering if the Israeli tactics would work. They wouldn't, of course ... no way in Civ could 150 tanks stand up against almost a thousand tanks, even with excellent defending strategy.

Sometimes I wake up panicky, thinking that I've missed a strategic resource.

Yes, lately I daydream about being alone in a huge forest tirelessly chopping away to rush The Pyramids so I can employ Representation...

It's definately normal. It seems like I'm the only one addicted, or even plays it, at my school, it's just not one of those high  publicity games like Halo 2 and Resident Evil 4  .

Really, I love civ 4 but it seems that noone I know personally plays it and thats too bad.
Yes and I daydream about it and tell my friends "Should I be killing the Spanish or go after the Persians, maybe become a Police State instead of a Universal Suffrage" and they don't know what I am talking about!

*sigh* they just don't understand what an awesome game this is

In response to KC's Sig:

Yes, but they wouldn't have had the chance to once Greek one it. Plus, half the world (America) still hadn't been discovered.

Think its time we start up the Civaholics anoymous site again....

I was watching Discovery Channel the other day and found myself wanting to build every beautiful building on screen in CIV IV. Then I logged on to civanon.com :)

Now you are finally experiencing the true Civ game. It does not stop once you turn off the computer, it just becomes more intensified. You will lay awake in bed at 3 am wondering what to research next, should you try for that wonder or would more units be more beneficial, which AI is begging for a smackdown, etc... My only advice is to join Civaholics Annonymous today.

A civ-addiction has its benefits as well. I can't play a whole lot these days, but i make sure to always have a nice builder-style-game going. (Right now: India, Worldmap, Monarch.) It is comforting and pleasing to ponder over the development of my civilization and its future prospects.

So, when i've had a rough day and can't sleep, i think of my game. I don't even need to play anymore, or only once a week - it's pacifying to think of my thriving cities, my nice tech-rate, the next settlement or the next techs. Ah, the joys of a builder-style game! :smug:

As long as you don't find yourself trying to get one of your neighbor's houses to culture flip to you, you'll be alright.

I just got Civ IV for Xmas and finally got around to playing it a couple weeks ago and I haven't skipped a single night of playing it since. When I'm at work (like right now), I peruse these forums seeking strategies and tips. I started the GOTM2 but reloaded and gave up as I wouldn't be able to submit it. I go home at lunch and play for an hour and don't even eat lunch!

Yes, I'm addicted. But dang it if this isn't one of the best games I've played in a long while. To top it off, I also got an Xbox 360 for xmas and after finally installing Civ IV, I haven't touched the 360 since!

My typical day of Civ 4 goes like this.

7:00- "Time to play civ. I'll play for an hour."
9:30- "Oh crap. Montezuma wants another tech from me. Must kill him..."
10:30- Save... turn off... go to bed... dream of killing half-a-foot (hathesput)

yep the same thimg happens to me it's just nobody plays it where i am from. The first time I played my life revovled around it for about a week and now lots of my life still revovles around it

Plus this game includes stuff for people who enjoy bulding games and war games and if you like both chances are you are going to get hyper-addictited

Seriously if i don't find someway to control this addiction my girlfriend is going to snap the disk in half!

I have a major problem. I can't stay away from this game. Last Friday i played from 7pm to 6am! Each turn i had an excuse to keep playing. Just take this city, oh that wonder is almost built, Monty's just gaging for a Cossack bashing! I then slept for 6 hours before getting up and finishing off that game a few hours later!

Since i bought this I've been lucky to get to bed before 1am every night. The only reason i leave the house at the moment is to go to work (where I'm constantly on these forums looking for tips), hockey on Sundays, and the occasional trip out on Friday/Saturday to please the g/f! :crazyeye:

Please where can i find the civaholic support group?
