Hexette - 16x16 World Map 2016-10-05

well, im not completely sure but u could just ask procifica... She got her scenario accsepted in the C3C...

Game: Regent, all random civs. I got India, South America start position.

I found I like that start better than the first game, despite its lack of both iron and horses. The chokepoint and mountains are good for defense. The other thing is, I only have to worry about one civ early on. Even though I'm physically isolated from 3 civs, I'm not communicationally isolated. This is good.

Early on, the Aztecs (in North America) surprise-attacked me. We had two mini-wars which I barely survived, defending with spearmen against swordsmen. Being India turned out to be a blessing - the War Elephant is a great UU for this map because it doesn't need resources. By the time I had 3 of them I conquered America and looked abroad. I also had taken Australia with a city by this time. I was shocked by the amount of corruption - at least 90 percent, not sure if this was intentional or not. I had a single galley which ruled the world's seas. Anyway, after some more time, I got a conquest victory to win (still working with elephants).

The balance is much better now than before. Here are some more suggestions:

  • Wonders: they are full-price, even though for many of them their effectiveness is less. For example, The Great Lighthouse and The Pyramids could be made cheaper, while The Colossus is decently priced. Wonders that affect a great number of cities are worth less, while wonders affecting only one city are worth a lot more (because one city makes up the core of your empire).
  • Corruption: it would be nice if the cities I captured were at least moderately productive. All I'm asking for here is maybe 60% or 70% corruption instead of 90%.
  • Civilizations: just an idea to toy around with. Perhaps you could further stabilize the map by specifying which civs go where. The problem is, then you might be accused of not having a historically accurate map.

That's it, not too much else to say.

about the civs: It could be civs like europe (EU) and north america (usa) and south america (brazil) and asia (China?) etc..

Thanks for the input.

Corruption: What I did was lowering OCN to three, as stated in the first post, in the belief that that would allow you to have 1-2 cities beyond the first with some sort of production. Well, as you can tell, it didn't work that way, so I'm going to up it, but I don't know by how much. I think I'll try with OCN=6.

Wonders: That's an idea. Would get some actually built.

Civs: I can't see how that idea could be implemented except by restricting the thing to five playable civs, which I don't want to. I've actually considered Sir John's idea of making five special civs for it - Asians, Africans, Europeans, North Americans and South Americans - but decided against it that since this is supposed to be a map with some tweaks to make it work, not really a modpack (that's one of the reason for it being called a MiniMod). It would be extra work, too!

Oh, well. I'll double that OCN, and if it gets corruption to a more agreeable level, I'll use that as the new "official" version of the MiniMod. Lowered wonders costs may come in a later version.

To lessen the "advantage" of the americas (conquer the other one, and you are THE ruler), you could connect the bering strait (Alaska and Russia). it is only a few kilometres that divert them anyway, and on this map it is like... a few hundred.

Just my idea...

Hm, OCN=6 didn't stop corruption of at least 80% in a city two three tiles away from the capital, which still seems harsh. (This under Despotism.)

I can't very well double it again, since 12 is the normal value for Tiny maps (which are, relatively speaking, huge). I'll do 'nother test at OCN=9.

OK, ran a test with OCN=9.

Under Despotism, corruption stubbornly remains at 80%+ in the second city. But under Republic, it's 50% in said second city.

I'll be content with that for the time being. It's not that hard to take over the world in Despotism on Regent anyway.

DAKjungF: Actually, the America's not the problem. On Regent and below, it's almost embarassingly easy to choice the Aztecs, and if you end up in "Eurafrasia" kill off your two neighbours, becoming even more powerful than an americocrat. Bridging the Bering Strait would excaberate the problem of early conquests, which I'm afraid is inescapable on a map like this.

Play on Emperor instead! (Or Deity, and pray you're not next to Bismarck!)

I would say go no further. If corruption is too low, conquering even one city would give you too much of a production advantage (in terms of military units, etc.). And as for wonders, in the game I played, someone actually built the Oracle (just to let you know).

Yeah, I think the corruption is about right now.

I've seen the Oracle and the Colossus built in my playtests. Actually, I think getting the Colossus in your capital is a quite good idea on this map, so I'm not about to lower the cost of that particular wonder. The Great Lighthouse is essentially worthless on this map, so perhaps it ought to get a discount, but OTOH it's perhaps only for the best if the AI is discouraged from building it.

Just downloaded this, looks cool. A few ideas though:
1) Siberia is highly understated on this map. Add one or two more tundra tiles in NE asia.
2) America could use a source of horses(there's only one source of horses but two of iron and coal)

1) If I add anything more up north, land will hit into the northern polar cap.

2) Sure they could. Africa could too. As I think I've explained in an earlier post, resource placements tries to be vaguely suggestive of the real world, and the horse originates in western Eurasia. Let the Americans be comforted by their saltpeter monopoly.

To increase corruption, increase it with the corruption % slider in the editor. Change it from 100%, to maybe, 150% for all levels.

As for my sig, all too often people call it saltpepper, because they are idiots. I intend to alert people of their idiocy via my sig, as a public service. ;)

people also often write 'diety' instead of 'deity', maybe because they think it is a pretty hard diet in diety/deity!

to the last conformist: great map :goodjob: !

now i got so interested in your minimap that i tried to download it - in bic-versin, of course. that didn't work: no link target. where is it gone?

I'll try it, cuz if you play your cards right (or units, should I say?) you'll win by domination easily...

It's a small world after all...:crazyeye:
