Hey metric system people...

Confession time. I hopped in with my son for a run to get pavers and the first thing the little ^%$%^# did was point to his fuel efficiency display and start talking about the mileage he is getting. So if I hadn't already had to eat my hyperbolic nonsense about how no one ever looks at that I'd have to now.

I find it the weirdest thing to have added to the dash display. My Camry has one. It went up to around 26, the promised mileage, as I first drove it around. It's been there ever since. I suppose I could reset it every now and again. If my mileage ever dropped off discernibly, I suppose it could be a sign that something was sub-optimal in my engine performance and I should have it checked into. But it strikes me as hardly worth whatever it cost them to include it for 1) just to prove to me that I'm getting the mileage they said I would and 2) the rare case where a dropoff in mileage is my only sign of some repair need.

So, no, I don't think you have to eat your hyperbolic nonsense until your son ever again in the future of his interactions with you again once mentions that gauge. Because I predict he won't.

Yeah...I told him all about this thread. It is predictable that he will be keeping me informed on a regular basis just to be annoying.

Oh, well then you brought that on yourself, and you deserve what you get.:)

tell him about Volkswagen tampering with the chips to report false readings.... and smile knowingly

In Spain for fuel usage rate we talk about litres consumpted every 100 km, (we say "litros a los cien" or simply "consumo"). Same for France or Italy. Odometer distance is "kilometraje". I would like to know how is it said in Germany and other not latin metrical countries though.
We Vi call it "Verbrauch" (lit. consumption; expressed in L/100km) and "Kilometerstand".

I suppose this is disappointingly uninteresting. My apologies.
