Britain should have made more use of being first to Steam Power and Railroad - perhaps by teching Combustion soon after and getting Destroyers out to choke everyone else's sea access.

Islamic Involvement in west Europe 711-1492 explained(Using Revolutions mod, etc.):

The Arabs, combined with Carthaginian mercenaries, have landed in Taifa. The Great General, Tariq ibn al-Zayid, deleted his galleys and urged the troops to capture all the independent states in the region, which was done easily.

The Arabs have conquered all of Iberia, and were finally held back by the French, who stopped being independent states and united under France. The French spammed spearmen stacks, with the Great General, Charles Martel, joining a group of swordsmen. The Arabs, having armies mostly consisting of camel archers, Numidian cavalry and horse archers, could not decimate the French defence, and were forced to retreat.

Arabs slowly spread Islam throughout Iberia, and it became the dominant religion of Iberia. The Arabs, with their land in most of the mediterranean, had great potential, and teched optics, education, astronomy, gunpowder, engineering and machinery.

Unfortunately, Arabia did not have mercantilism or state property enabled, so maintainance costs started to become very high. Arabia could no longer afford to do deficit research, and was forced to keep research at 10%, and eventually stopped teching.

In an attempt to raise stability, Arabia gifted their cities in Iberia to Carthage and gave Carthage all the techs they have researched. Carthage is already struggling in stability, so having all these cities made it worse for Carthage. Arabia also gifted their camel archers and Numidian cavalry to Carthage, making it difficult for Carthage to improve its economy.

This caused many of the northern Iberian cities to become independent. Zaragoza was one of these cities where Carthage kept their cavalry, a military base defending against French forces, which were beginning to get influential. Zaragoza revolted, and became the sovereign city state of Spain, taking plenty of Carthaginian and independent cities in an attempt to unite Iberia under Christianity. France fully supported this new state, and declared war on Carthage to capture cities to give to Spain.

Lisboa followed Spain's revolt, and became the sovereign state of Portugal. Lisboa contained Carthaginian caravels and crossbowmen, which joined the Portuguese.

Spain was conquering most of Iberia, taking cities one by one, always remembering to drop an inquisitor to each conquered city. Portugal has done the same, except on the west of Iberia, and also permitted Spanish inquisitors to take out heathens.

Seeing Carthage's inability to defend it-self, Arabia sends in some camel archers which are destroyed by endless hordes of Spanish swordsmen.

Eventually, Carthage lost all cities in Iberia save for Granada, the only remaining city. Carthage signed a peace treaty which agreed to give both France and Spain optics, education, astronomy, gunpowder, engineering and machinery. The treaty was signed, and Granada was eventually taken by Spain through cultural domination. Islam and Judaism get officially expelled from the sub-continent.

Portugal, France and Spain, using Arabian technology and equipment, explore the new world.

English colonies were too far from the capital, and so they re-spawned into American and Confederate civilizations. In 1790, after acquiring the industrialization tech, America (leaderhead Lincoln) turned the Confederacy civ (leaderhead Gilgamesh) into a vassal state. By 1860, French spies (leaderhead Hatshepsut) were able to send spies over to flip Gilgy's Confederates over to being her vassal. Sadly, Gilgamesh (with too many luxuries & not enough beakers or hammers) only had enough time to crank out one UU (the Merrimac, replacing the ironsides unit) from Roanoke, the only Confederate city with a factory.

This of course meant that the American civ DW'd France, but Lincoln's rifle units, aided by the American UU (Old John Henry, replacing the worker but can railroad a tile in one turn) were able to overrun the entire Confederate territory before 1865, which didn't give French troop transports enough time to cross the Atlantic. Lincoln immediately cut a peace deal with the French in 1866. Hatshepsut in gratitude gifted a Great Engineer to Lincoln, which he sent to NY to rapid build the world wonder, the Statue of Liberty.

Meanwhile, the French troop transports turned around to go home, but weren't able to get back to French ports before Bismark invaded in 1871...

"Es braust ein Ruf wie Donnerhall,
    wie Schwertgeklirr und Wogenprall:
Zum Rhein, zum Rhein, zum deutschen Rhein!
Wer will des Stromes Hüter sein? (...)"

And also Alsace-Lorraine also known as Elsass-Lothringen in Prussia ;)

The reason the US granted the Philippines its independence was rising maintenance costs, and France had already build Versailles and China had built the forbidden palace.

    1. The Ukrainian civilization canceled all their deals to the Russians.
    2. Instead of invading Ukraine militarily, Russia builds tons of cultural buildings near the Ukrainian border and sent great artists to culture bomb Easter Ukraine.
    3. Eastern Ukraine turned 99% Russian and they all "Yearn to join their motherland"
    4. Russian then sent spies to Ukraine to trigger revolts.

    Will Eastern Ukraine be liberated?

No, they didn't build cultural buildings. They used the "Spread Culture" mission. Then Ukraine used the AP to "cancel deals" with Russia.

But the forbidden palace is national wonder! It must have been that it would have taken too long for the Philippines to build it.

IINM the period of time when the US controlled the Philippines, China was going through two civil wars (anarchy) in attempts to overthrow their republic and install a communist regime (state property).
The hope was if nerdfighter's explanation that China has the FP isn't valid because it's a national wonder, communism has the same (if not better) anti-maintenance effect.

Constantine (Spiritual/Expansive) switched the Roman Empire from Paganism and Police State to Organized Religion and Hereditary Rule, as well as making Christianity the state religion and using his GP to build the Church of the Holy Sepulcure. Unfortunately, building a Palace in Byzantium somehow founded a new civilization, so Rome didn't get any of the gold benefits from controlling a Holy City.
