Time for a new Gauntlet. How does this sound?

Level: Deity
Mapsize: Tiny
Victory Condition:Spaceship

What do you think about the settings? Pangea map or Archi to help ensure the Republic slingshot? Go all out to tame the AI with an early war or two or hang on to their shirt tails, using their fast research capability for your benefit?

It's the usual two month deadline again so please submit your games by July 15th 2011. Good luck to all competitors.

The top scorers on Tiny Spaceship, on all of Sid, Deity, and Demigod, have used Pangaea, mostly with 60% ocean.

As to Deity tactics, I'm not an expert, but perhaps ride on the shirt tails of 3 scientific civs, trading cleverly, including cutting trade routes to abort trades advantageously.

This is a type of game I really like, partly because my very first gauntlet was small deity SS, 5 years ago. Here's a link to the thread from that game, which heavily features Tone :)

I think that, in 5 years, no one has bounced any of the leaders from that gauntlet off the board, actually.

To win this gauntlet, there's only 2 things that pretty much need to be true:

1) You need to be scientific (cheap libs and free techs are key)
2) Your opponents need to be scientific. A game with those things will finish something like 12-40 turns ahead of a game without them, just from the free techs.

Any of the civs are excellent, though Germany, Russia and Babylon are not all that useful.

Either Pangea or arch isn't bad - arch will have more room, of course. Contacts are less, though, so the tech pace is a little slower, which isnt' what you want - a gauntlet like this can be very exciting, a race to the end, with enemies everywhere...

I would not disqualify the Russians that easy. I did a brief test game with them and popped THREE settlers early on. That can make up for a lot.

I have a feeling Babylon might work out better than perhaps you might expect. Since you have fewer cities, less corruption might just make more of a difference in terms of beaker output (notice the might here, I'm by no means sure). So, a quick revolt to Democracy might help. Additionally, trading for luxuries probably won't come as easy as on larger map sizes. So, temples and/or cathedrals might just help. Then again, maybe a more aggressive approach would pay off more here.

ok, well. In my first attempt, I went with sumeria, with greece, byzantium and korea as opponents.

I tried fishing for an SGL with masonry.

Much to my surprise, Theodora shows up in 3300 BC, offering me CB for pottery. And she has Masonry. I guess I have to figure out who techs Masonry first - I didn't know any AI did that.

After several games that have gone south due to the AIs attacking me unwantedly, I think an aggressive approach more fits the bill here than a peaceful one.

OK. Not a popular choice this one. No entries and time is now up.

Oh never mind, I was doing a large emperor 100K for the last month.

If you fancy doing another 100K game take a look at the new gauntlet.

I actually did like the idea of this one, but I played peaceful like 5 or so times, and everytime I got whacked. One even went to the modern age, and since luxuries basically come as impossible to trade for on this map type, I even got whacked late in that game.

You're certainly correct about the resource issues, Spoonwood. It's a shame that none of your attempts worked out.
