HOF Mod Support/Suggestions

Hi - I've finally managed to get a valid submission that I know is quite a poor result, but just getting it up is enough.

I was wondering if you've any plans for making the HOF tables show for logged in people their best score - if you added in a default extra line below the 10 listed then that would be cool - or if your score came above all those listed. - it be a nice feature.

I've been playing a few HOF Warlords games (as opposed to succession games with my mod) and I've really missed the ability to see which unit had a promotion pending (light blue border around unit icon) and what each unit was doing (fortified, healing, moving, auto, etc). As it is, I have to peck thru the stack to locate these units.

Can we get these two small mods added to HOF. I'd be willing to provide the code and artwork plus instructions on where to put what if that would help.

If they are not too extensive it should be possible. Send us what you have.

I will say that we have been hoping to actually go a month, maybe even two, without another release. So it might be a little while. I think people are getting a little tired of new versions. :mischief:

Today I used MapFinder for the first time and I have a few questions. I ran around 90 or so iterations before meeting someone and it stopping on me. I understand that happens when contact is made, so no problem there. What I don't understand is the rules builder. When I ran it today I just used the default settings hoping that would help me figure it out. Apparently it didn't.

My question is, how does MapFinder differentiate between the rulesets? You have four groups and I don't understand how they work. Does MapFinder use all four when looking for maps, or what? If I'm only looking for maps that start out with stone do I have to set each group to have a minimum of one stone, or do I set the first group to look for stone and have MapFinder only use the first group?

I also noticed a few hangups and I was curious about them. MapFinder would appear to freeze for quite a while on one map, and than all of a sudden move on. The first time it did this I Alt-X'ed out thinking there was a problem. It still sat froze for a while before exiting. After that I just left it be and everything was fine.

Any group can trigger a save of a map. All the lines within a single group must be true for that group to trigger a save. (In technospeak, the lines in a group are AND'd together, the groups are OR'd together.) Does that help?

There are two parts to the lag between maps. The longest part is while Civ4 is regenerating the map. The screen freezes during that. This is equivalent to you selecting regenerate map manually. What happens during that time is on Civ4. Bigger maps seem to take longer. So if you have a slower processor or are memory constrained then that time could be even longer. (Intermittent longer delays could be windows paging. But that is just a guess.)

The second part is the time it takes to evaluate the range of plots and a build in delay of about 2 seconds (configurable via options) to allow you time to hit ALT-X. The animations should be active during that period.

Thanks Denniz. That helps.

Let me clarify what its doing. Typically while MapFinder is running it sits on any one map for a few seconds or so before regenerating, but every now and than one map will stick for about thirty seconds to a minute. I'm unsure why and was curious if anyone else knew. Other than that, it works fine.

Ok, will do. I will tack it onto my list of 'things to do' and see how long it takes :D.

I am having a lot of fun with map finder. I created a rule set that keeps every save but now I cannot get it to accept new rule sets. I've changed the *.rul file via the options screen, via the ini file, restarted Warlords with and without the shift key but it always ignores my new rule set. It says it is using the new rule set but it isn't.

Any suggestions?

As it is now, its very easy to finish a lot of the games using early rushes.

One way to decrease this, would be to restrict quattromaster worthy games to games that are "good enough".

My suggestion would be the following: for each event games that normalise below -2 sigma (in an ideal distribution the lowest Qscore 2.3%) are accepted as games, but can't count vs this category.

This way, there would be a dynamic limit on the categories. If many good games arrive for a category, the average is rising, and more of the low score games are not counted vs. this event. Thus you can even loose events.

This will not probably not cut down on the amount of 3835 BC duel quechua rush wins, as those score very high due to early date. But it will cut down on much less successful quechua (and other) rushes.

And yes, I know that this would hit me hard. ^^

To limit the value of good quechua rushes, I'd suggest another solution: Qscore gets also incorporated a factor depending on the amount of submitted games compared with all games in that category. If one type of game (duel pangea inca) is making up an important minority (or even majority) of a given event, all those games are automatically rated down.

If it displays the file name when you hit ALT-M, then it is using that file. There are no hard coded rules, so everything comes from the listed file. You might turn on logging to see if something else is going on.

I read several pages of this thread trying to find the answer but gave up before going all the way through so I apologize if the answer is there. I found two places where people asked the same question and it WAS answered but it doesn't seem to work for me.

Every time I start a game (unless I use the custom start which I prefer not to do) I get the red message about Lock modified assets. I loaded a game through custom to set it on but then when I play normal games it doesn't "remember" the setting which is what I thought was answered to another person who asked.

Do I need to save a game with the correct settings first? I wouldn't think that would matter since I have autosave on the startup so it IS saving itself. Maybe there is a line I can add to my ini file? I went looking for it there to change the setting but haven't been able to find it and search for "lock" didn't bring it up either. I'd like to get this fixed... doubt that I'll be submitting HoF scores in the near future but since I downloaded the files to play GOTM I'd like to get everything working if possible. :)

Hope my question made sense. I am using version 2.08.003 if that helps.

Thanks so much for the help!

It seems that with 2.08 patch to warlords it no longer remembers/uses the setting. :( I am afraid you will have to use the custom game screen. There are some advantages, though. You can pick your opponents, for example.

I'm actually playing HOF V2.08.003 (not 2.08.002)!
I tried to start a very simple game, without changing any setting, and selected a shuffle world ("shuffle" shouldn't select Lakes, right?).
I'm going to send you a save, as soon as I'm back home, on Friday.

I didn't save so I can't send mine but I'm curious if this was figured out? The same thing happened to me once tonight while I was trying to figure out my lock modified assets problem.

I started a game through play now and got the red text so quit out to main menu and started a game through custom and checked the box and went in and got red text again but this time when I went to see what the problem was it was blank. In my case I'd been starting and quitting a lot of games trying to figure out setting so possibly I just needed to reboot or something but since I saw someone else have the same problem with v2.08.003 I thought I'd post and let you know he isn't the only one who has seen it.

Thanks so much for the quick response! At least I know and can stop loading game after game messing with it. :)

No save so far.

Do you know which setting may have been the cause? Or maybe the Dawn of Man screen warning is bogus.

As stated earlier, if there is nothing wrong on the victory screen, your submission will probably be accepted anyway. :)

I often get false bad games according to the Dawn of Man screen, with nothing wrong on the victory screen.

In my experience the event log lags for one game, i.e. if you have an invalid start, return to main menu and start a valid game the Dawn of Man and Settings page will be blank while the event log says "Game invalid" - maybe that is the cause...

No idea. Wish I could be more help. If I get it again I'll definitely upload a save for you to see. Thanks so much and good luck figuring it out. :)

Edit: It was one game later so most likely Ori's answer is what happened. I did notice that when I'm getting the asset problem it screams red at me twice but when I get the "blank" problem it only says it once.

Hi,

I downloaded the mapfinder a couple of days ago and I had som serious problems when I tried to start up the app, but after downloading a .txt-file (don't remember the name) it works just fine. I have question about the rule-builder. By defafult there are four (?) groups with rules, and a map can be picked from anyone of these sets of rules. But what if I'm only interested in just one type of map? Do I specify all rules i Group 1 and just delete the other groups? Or is there a way to tell Mapfinder just to pick maps from Group 1 rules?

Btw, Mapfinder reminds me of the "pindle-bot" you used in Diablo II: You start up the bot/mapfinder, and while its working you entertain yourself with other stuff and after a while you put yourself in front of your comp again to se what the bot accomplished... :)

You will never guess what the problem was. Background: I set up a *.rul file that was designed to save ALL starts. I then set up one to save either ROCK or MARBLE starts. The only problem was that when I used the rock/marble one, every game was being saved. Naturally, I thought the system was still using the ALL STARTS rule file.

Well ...............

USER ERROR: My Rock rule was "save all starts that have from 0 to 999 rocks!:mischief:

I did start a OCC game with both Marble and Rock trying for a diplomatic victory. I didn't manage the relationships well and ended up losing by space while I was about 10 turns short. Check my city at the end ... lots of hammers.

BTW - can you submit losses to the HOF?
