Could you include a hotkey for regenerate map? I love the map finder and use it a lot. But there are some attempts I like to regen myself so I can move my first turn before I regen. Kind of annoying to have to to to the menu to select it.
Great idea! :goodjob: I am kicking myself for not thinking of it first. The hardest part about that request is gonna be picking which key to use.

yah i settle real quick and gives me like 1/2 a second to alt-x if i see something nice ;) i put that delay thing to like 4 seconds not sure if thats where to delay comes in though. though I also alt-x a lot if i start on a plain hill just to check it out then alt-m again when i see the area is junk. guess we are junkies that watch the maps go by
:lol: That's definately a candidate for the "Signs you are playing too much Civilization" thread. :mischief:

I promise, I will add an option to select for starting plot terrain.

:cool: i took like 7 months off away from civ4 so the last few weeks I have been playing a bit ;)

I used the new map finder utility yesteday and it worked great. I ran it all night long and it ran 400+ maps with 82 saves. I began looking through all of the 82 save files using the utility provided and found the start location I wanted to use.

The utility showed all of the resources, grasslands, hills etc.. for the start location, but did not include the file name. I had to start CIV and load most of the 82 save files until I found the file I wanted. What am I missing? I'm sure a utility that works as well as this one will show me the name of the file I want to play. Where is the name located?

Thanks for the help.

Problem, when I exited the mapfinder

Sorry, the name appears in a tooltip when you cursor over the Picture. The new version (almost ready) makes that a non-issue. ;)

Thanks, I found the name by cursoring the picture. I look forward to the new version, but this one has worked great for me so far.:goodjob:

Didn't know about cursoring over it :P

I have just been finding the one I want in the report utility and then finding the matched up thumbnail pic in my saves folder and loading it that way.

I hope you realize that the true spirit of MapFinder is to find map for you while you are away doing something else. You are not suppose to sit there watching it and and hitting the hotkey.;)

Yeah, I don't watch mapfind when it is working. However there are some games that I like to regen myself, such as settler-warlord games where I want to pop another settler right from the start. Easier to regen myself than to have mapfinder save all starts with a hut and load each one.

First time install for the HoF Mod.

I am getting the above error telling me that I have modified my assets directory when I start a new game. So, I downloaded the AssetChecker referenced in an earlier post. If I read the results correctly, it states that MY game assets are fine. But, the HOF Mod assets are the ones that have been modified. :confused: But, wait, I just installed the mod!

Spoiler Asset Checker :

Civ4 installed at:

Installed assets all good!

Hmmm, I haven't updated the asset checker since we release 1.61.004, so even if your mod is installed OK it will give errors. The .csv file should still be useful to me though. Could you send it to hof@civfanatics.net? And also an example save file. Just create one with Lock Modified Assets turned on and with a Duel map, any other settings.

Ok, this is just too weird. I fire up the mod to create the save for you, but this time NO error message?? Other than fiddling with some of the ini options, nothing has changed. I'm not sure what happened, but it seems to be working now. If it happens again, I will definitely do a save and email it to you.

i got a strange problem:

if i start the mapfinder it says 'mapfinder active' then autosave and save, and then regenerates a map.

and then nothing happeneds.

if i pres alt+m again, it doesnt work. i have to use alt+x to stop the mapfinder. i get a msg saying it has checked 1 file and saved 0.

but in fact i saw the savemsg.

i dont realy understand whats not working there

I am not sure what the problem might be. Things to try:

  • Make sure the HOF mod is installed in the Game install's Mods folder. (ie. "C:Program Files\Firaxis Games\Sid Meier's Civilizations 4\Mods")
  • Make sure that the HOF Map Finder options are pointing to valid paths and rules file.
  • Turn on logging in the CivilizationIV.ini file.
Code:
; Set to 1 for no python exception popups
HidePythonExceptions = 0

; Enable the logging system
LoggingEnabled = 1

; Overwrite old network and message logs
OverwriteLogs = 1

; Enable message logging
MessageLog = 1

I wouldn't worry about the saving game messages. The Map Finder counts are the most accurate measure.

Hi, my first post on the board :wavey: & I was hoping for some help with using the mapfinder utility, which I've just started using for duel maps, where it runs really quickly & is amazingly useful.

Generated a load of maps last night, chose one in the report tool & transferred it to my save game file, loaded and played, just as I've done previously. No saves, no breaks, no computer problems, just played straight through from 4000 BC to the finish. But after the victory announcement, when it went through the replay of the game, I noticed the messages read "London founded", "Rome founded", "Second session starts", all in 4000 BC, as if I'd played the map twice.

Although I've had no problems with mapfinder before, I'm sure I've done something daft when generating/loading the game. Having said that, I'm confused as to why the 'second session' starts *after* the cities are founded. I'm really not that clumsy and I know I didn't move any units at all while generating maps!

What I'd really like to know is whether it's possible to check for this without playing an entire game only to find out that it will be rejected for HoF. Can you roll through a replay before the end of the game or is there some other way of checking? It was just so depressing to find out it was a duff game after six hours of solid play :rolleyes:

It also means that I can run a few test games quickly, just to make sure that it's not a continuous problem.

Many thanks

@Misotu, could you submit that game anyway so we can take a look? Once the server is back up that is. Hopefully it won't be too much longer!

Hi Dianthus - it's ok, actually it was pretty rubbish as a game anyway :blush: and I've deleted the start file - kept the final save just to look at in case there's a problem other than me being daft.

Actually, I'm checking in now because I was playing a *blinder* on duel - and the whole power in the street has blown so my game is lost and I don't have a recent save. Just the auto stuff, so I know it's not acceptable. No worries. I'll just do it again, now I've worked out how :mischief:

Thanks for the response - but is there anyway to find out whether I'm going to get this weird second session stuff before I submit & look like an idiot or a cheat? That would be better!

OK, no problem Misotu. I was actually wondering if the session output in the replay log was correct. In 1.52 regenerating the map didn't clear the log, so the log ended up with lots of new sessions for each regen. That *should* be fixed in 1.61, but it's always possible that there's a related bug in there somewhere. If I had a save I would be able to tell if the log was correct.

Hi Dianthus ... well I've just played another game on duel using map generator and I have the same new session message :( So I have submitted it this time. Perhaps you can tell whether it's the program and not me. Thanks.
