HOF Mod Support/Suggestions

It gives a different message for that though, as I had that problem too. ultamatly I had to reinstall the game to get it to work.

I don't know if this is reported already, so here it comes:

I am currently playing HoF-Mod and I don't know if I am doing something wrong or if I just trapped somewhere but after one of my cities reached "legendary" status I got the message "<cities> cultural borders will expand next round" each turn. What must I do?

Dr Elmer Jiggle said:
The cultural border expansion warning is something they added in the HoF mod. I didn't write that code myself, so I'm not sure exactly what would cause it. I've noticed a similar problem with the city growth warnings when you have "stagnate growth" turned on, but I doubt that's related.
I noticed this behaviour too.:(

Dr Elmer Jiggle said:
One simple workaround might be to just go to the options screen and turn off that warning for a while.
Nice idea, but I normally don't play OCC - so switching off this message means switching it off for ALL citites - not only the one causing the problem.

You should probably report this in the HoF mod thread. It does sound like a bug.
Ok - I will do this - thx

I thought I'd fixed that. Are you using HOF Mod 1.61.004?

Ouch. Then the other possibility would be changes to the installed assets, which is most easily fixed by uninstalling/reinstalling as lost_civantares suggested.

Thanks, but what I don't get is how the assests got changed in the first place. It worked fine then started giving that error...

Your can run this utility: "http://hof.civfanatics.net/civ4/mods/Civ4AssetChecker1.3.zip". It can tell you what's changed. You didn't install CivScale by any chance? It changes assets files instead using custom assets.

Well it seems to be related to running the fall from heaven mod. It must change something that doesn't get cleared with exiting and restarting the game since I had played that yesterday when I was getting the error and today no error and the only mod I have tried is HOF.

EDIT: Problem solved, seems I DID tamper with the assets. Clean install fixed it.

When I start a new custom game (Pangea/Asoka/Lock modified Assets) I am alerted that "The assets are different from a standard install. Contact the HOF staff."

I have a un-altered install, HoF, and MapFinder installed. HoF is installed to D:\Civilization IV\Mods\HOF-1.61.004.

This was is 1.61.003. I didn't read something about this problem in 004 Release Notes so I assumed, that it is still there. I will verify it in 004 ... ;)

Could you download this utility:

Extract it from the zip file and run it. Click on "Check". When that completes click on "Save Results" and save the .csv file somewhere, then e-mail that .csv file back to us at hof@civfanatics.net. Maybe we can figure out what it is warning about.

Have you used CivScale? That's one of the usual ways. If you run the asset checker as Denniz suggested then it will tell you exactly which files have changed.

I just tested the Alert about "city will grow next turn" when "city growth" is blocked in city screen and it still gives this message. I haven't played til "legendary" yet but I will inform you as soon as I have news

I fixed the legendary one. I didn't know about the blocked one at the time. I will get that one next time. :)

Thanks and keep up the good work

I don't know if this a problem or just an annoyance.

I removed all instances (I thought) of HOF MOD 1.61.003 before extracting 1.61.004 into the C:\Program Files\Firaxis\Civ4\MODS directory. Yet when I select "Load a MOD" in the start up screen the MOD option I am offered still specifies 1.61.003, and the start up messages have 1.61.003 tags associated with them.

Is there a 1.61.003 artifact out there somewhere? I disabled caching in the Civ4.ini file so I don't think it is hiding in the cache.

Am I being annoyed for no reason, or is something hinky in the installation?

Thanks for your help and much appreciation for your effort in administering this added fun.

@Bede, did you delete the "HOF-1.61.003" dir? If the dir exists, even if empty, it will be listed as a mod to load. Check both the "C:\Program Files\Firaxis\Civ4\MODS" and "My Documents\My Games\Sid Meier's Civilization 4\MODS" dirs and make sure it has been deleted.

Thanks for the rapid reply and it jogged my memory about WIN2000Pro.

For some reason Civ spreads things around under WIN2000Pro into the My Games directory, a Program Files directory and a third directory in the normally hidden Application Data directory where the executable resides. And if you want the HOF mod to work it has to be in the MODS directory in the directory tree where the executable resides.

So all better now and I am running 1.61.004 as I should have been. Just had to move 1.61.003 out of the AppData tree and move 1.61.004 in.

OK, cool, glad to hear you got it working Bede. FYI you don't actually HAVE to get rid of 1.61.003. I've got all of the previous versions installed and can switch backwards and forwards at will. Having only the latest installed means you're less likely to make a mistake and play the old version though ;).

About the dirs. Did you install for all users? Or just the current user? On XP if you install for the current user the files end up under "Documents and Settings\<username>\Application Data\Firaxis Games\Sid Meier's Civilization 4". Maybe the "Program Files" files/dirs are left around from a previous install for all users?

Could you include a hotkey for regenerate map? I love the map finder and use it a lot. But there are some attempts I like to regen myself so I can move my first turn before I regen. Kind of annoying to have to to to the menu to select it.

yah i settle real quick and gives me like 1/2 a second to alt-x if i see something nice ;) i put that delay thing to like 4 seconds not sure if thats where to delay comes in though. though I also alt-x a lot if i start on a plain hill just to check it out then alt-m again when i see the area is junk. guess we are junkies that watch the maps go by
