I'm having an issue when loading the options menu in Warlords 2.13.001. I can't exit. I just need to turn on the map generator and change my .rul file.

save file

I've restarted the game and restarted the computer, but seems to happen everytime.

Sounds like you are having the same problem that I had ... see post #1121 in this thread. Bede has a solution in #1130, I modified it a bit in #1142.

Hope that helps.

Thanks, da_Vinci. :goodjob:

@Padraig, let us know if Bede/da_Vinci solution doesn't clear things up.

Yes, that fixed the issue. Thanks. Vista's security protocols remind me of the liberalism quote.

I'd like to load a 1.61.011 game downloaded from the HoF. For the past several months, every time I try to load one of these I get an error saying it needs to load hof mod 1.16.008. It also complains that the mods/hof-1.61.008 directory is missing. Am I the only one with this problem?

Yes, I do.

Minor problem, but when I change the graphics resolution up from the standard to the maximum on either Warlords or Vanilla with the new Mods, I get a catastrophic crash and basically have to power off to get the computer to reboot. Only way to change resolution is to load the programmes without the mod, then reload with the mod. Just FYI.

Now the major problem (for me anyhow :) )

I know I'm doing something stupid, but I've got to that point where I'm looking and looking and just can't see it. The mapfinder won't work - says the mapfinder path is invalid. I've used the same path as before (I think - but I didn't copy it over so maybe not ... )

C:\Documents and Settings\Ann\My Documents\My Games\Civ4_Map_Finder\Civ4_Map_Finder

OK ... I know that I'll be :blush: but I'm bored fiddling ... what's wrong with this please?

Thanks xxx

PS This thread is getting so long and unwieldy ... would it perhaps be possible to construct a little sub-forum so that the individual problems could be identified as threads? 58 pages ... it's just not useable right now?

You have "Civ4_Map_Finder" twice in the path. Is that a post typo or what you actually have. The easiest way to set the paths is to just open the Civ4_Map_Finder.exe. It will ask to set you paths. Then all you have to do is change the rule file name.

I just did it on mine and it came out looking like this:
Code:
# Map Finder Rules File Name
MapFinderRuleFile =C:\Documents and Settings\Dennis\My Documents\My Games\Civ4_Map_Finder\Rules\Default.rul

# Map Finder Path Name
MapFinderPath =C:\Documents and Settings\Dennis\My Documents\My Games\Civ4_Map_Finder

# Map Finder Save File Path Name
MapFinderSavePath =C:\Documents and Settings\Dennis\My Documents\My Games\Civ4_Map_Finder\Saves

I don't know if we want to go to a sub forum. With the single thread I can respond to the questions quicker. I don't mind repeating my self. Creating HOF Mod FAQ is probably what I should do but time and modivation is lacking. :blush:

C:\Documents and Settings\Ann\My Documents\My Games\Civ4_Map_Finder\Civ4_Map_Finder

Do you have a second folder titled "Civ4_Map_Finder" as the above states? If you remove the last "\Civ4_Map_Finder" it should work just fine. In other words, make it this:

C:\Documents and Settings\Ann\My Documents\My Games\Civ4_Map_Finder

Personally, I use this:

\My Documents\My Games\Civ4_Map_Finder\Saves

...though I can't remember if I created the Saves folder, or if it came with MF.

Try it in windowed mode. You might have a popup message from windows.

I am not sure what you mean. I was in windows when I tried it as usual ... and booted the game from Windows. Do you mean something different?

Yes, you were absoltely right. i had the thingy in twice. But I've removed it and it still doesn't recognise my rule file. Path is:

C:\Documents and Settings\Ann\My Documents\My Games\Civ4_Map_Finder\Cult.rul

which is what I've copied from my computer on the directory/file thingy, and is what is reproduced on my HOF map builder entry on the menu.

I tried what you suggested in terms of the auto-set thing from within map finder, but it doesn't seem to have solved the problem. Aaagrhh. I'm just a simple user. What stupid thing am I doing wrong? Sorry, I know it's me but I really can't work it out ...

The rules files are normally keep in their own folder called Rules. Try: "C:\Documents and Settings\Ann\My Documents\My Games\Civ4_Map_Finder\Rules\Cult.rul"

Yes, that did it. I knew that I was making stupid errors. I usually just cut and paste the location when installing a new mod with no problems, but I was obviously really careless this time. Sorry to trouble you & thanks for the help.

I was very happy to see, that HOF is now available for BTS, but unfortunally i can not start this. It breaks with an runtime error.

Greetings. :)

I am afraid that I am not seeing anything to indicate what is causing your error. Are you using Vista OS? There have been permission issues with Vista althought your error does look like that. I assume BTS runs okay without the HOF Mod.

Did you have any problems with the install? Does the HOF-3.02.001 appear in the Beyond the Sword\mods folder? You might want to reinstall the mod just to be sure.

At what point in the startup process did it fail? Could you give us a step by step walkthrough of how you go to the error?

Anything you can think of that was different or remarkable might give us a clue.

Hm,

Very strange. But now it runs, it was waiting on your post :lol:. But there was one different thing. Normaly I start CIV with ask for fullscreen or not. Immediately after this question it breaks. Now i have try without ask from the game and now it runs.

I hope this will be helpful for you.

NO VISTA! :) ... i prefer XP

Well, I am glad you got it working. :goodjob:

Yeah, I am sticking with XP until I have to get a new computer. There are already enough mysterious issues like yours with XP without adding the Vista security model nightmare, too. :mischief:

LOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOL!!!! (that sums it up pretty much)

It doesn't even need that. I had the same problem and I just changed my ingame alias to Shadondriel and now it works *shrugs shoulders*
I also changed No intro movies to 1

That wouldn't work for me. I was still getting the error, I even tried plugging in Shadondriel as an alias. ;-) But I did remove the mod and went in and just started a custom game then exited. Put the mod back in and now it works. So I think the trick might be to actually start a game to finish setting something up.

But now my problem is I am getting the Assets are different from a standard install warning in Vanilla, Warlords, and BTS. This is a fresh install of Civ4 Gold and BTS. The only odd thing I noticed was Hof-1.74.001 and hof-2.13.001 try to install to program file/firaxis games/etc by my gold edition installed to program files/2kgames/firaxis games/etc. Originally I had bought civ4 as an online download from trymedia when they took over from yahoo games. They seem to take forever to update to the latest patch so I got tired of waiting and bought the gold version and BTS. But I completely uninstalled that one and deleted the folders before I installed the new ones.

Any ideas?

Thanks...
