HOF Questions and Answers Thread

WastinTime and the HoF-HP claim so.

If WT accidentally didn't look close enough, he's just caused me to waste about 5h of installing and re-installing CIV, then I await that he ignores all my #1 HoF-slots until the end of time while I may take as many from him as I want  ^^ .

If the HoF-HP is wrong, I await that Denniz makes Busty Buffy the loading screen of the new BUFFY ^^ .

shakabrade also doesn't have that setting on the mentioned mapscripts.

WastinTime! Explain yourself! How come you got that option and we all don't? :hammer:

Found a source of trustworthy info: link

So WastinTime lied

Gonna continue on playing now, at least I now got a freshly installed version of CIV, maybe that'll fix my recent bad luck with RNG.

[EDIT]

The HoF-page btw. should also be updated, to reflect that there is no worldwrap on the 3 mentioned mapscripts.

oops, sorry, I didn't read closely. Didn't realize you were talking about B&S. I thought you just had the other worldwrap problem solved by 3.13 install. Sorry again for making you re-install :hammer2:

So it is correct that you should install the individual patches not just the final one?

You only need to do that if you're missing worldwrap opions. Which maps allow world-wrap are listed in the guide to map-creation which I linked.

Don't trust the list on the HoF page!11

Playing my first HoF map, and one thing that frustrates me with BUFFY compared with normal BUG is a mismatch of some icons, that cover up the :strength: of units when I hover over them in their icons in the selection list at the bottom (the list you barely see in the right bottom of the attached screenshot). Is there a way to fix this?

I look at it like this when for example there are some units and I want with attack with the one that is least injured, or have some promotions I want, and it's faster to just hover over the icon than select each and every one. Would be great if it was possible to fix it. It looks a bit weird too with all that blank space at the bottom of the hover up box.

Woot, I managed to fix it myself. In options there was a promotion icon offset value. Default was zero. I set it to 10 and now it looks good :)

The tooltips for it mentioned other themes and such. I don't use anything other than BUFFY, so not sure why the default of 0 offset would look wrong, but doesn't matter now as it got fixed by setting the offset to 10.

Have submitted four games now, but they've been played in pretty much the same fashion (early wars, Lib, Cuir-stomp), so figured I'd try something different: Deity. A couple of false starts later, and it looks difficult just to get a 2nd city that isn't crap. I did go with 8 AIs on a standard map; is that too much? I see some have gone with 6 and others with 10, but I'm getting boxed in with 8 already, so 10 must be brutal.

Would welcome recommendations for settings. At Deity I'm basically just looking to win the game (only have 1 non-reloading Deity win).

Figured I'd try Darius this time, as I've played the submitted games with Hatty, though I'm not sure if it's even feasible to 'rush' with Immortals on Deity.

If you play with Darius, you don't need a 2nd or even 3rd city. Go for BFC-Horses and you're good. That's also how I could take 10 AIs in my 880 AD Domination with Hatty.

Big advantage of this is, that you can rush with 15 Immortals at 2000 BC, building Settlers would only delay that date or numbers. I think I even attacked earlier, like 3000 BC with only a handful of War Chariots.

With the right map and the right moves, you can choke 2 AIs from getting metals or they even don't have metals, and conquer them with Immortals alone.

And take a different map than standard size, all victories are held by me or Sossos and the dates are pristine. There are far easier slots.

Seems tricky to get BFC horses in addition to the normal HoF start with gold/gems plus good food, but maybe I get lucky with one of them. Will be tricky to keep getting out enough units with just one city I think, especially for taking down deity AIs, but I want to at least try this level, to see if I can get another win.

Since it's Deity, which is just absurdly difficult, I'm not really looking for an early win or to overtake a number 1 slot. I know that is impossible, especially on those popular settings. But normal-standard-domination for instance 'only' have 8 games, so even with a late win I can at least get in there. Conquest has 6. Could try another large map, though, as I have a little experience with that now.

Would it be best to go down to 6 AIs, or should I simply keep trying with 8 (or even 10) and cross my fingers for BFC horse?

BFC Horses aren't difficult to get, probably every 3rd or 4th start has them. Maybe a little less with Darius because he isn't CRE so 3rd Ring Horses don't count, but it still shouldn't be too difficult.

Go for 10 AIs or better, play the Large map, the dates are weak there.

With such a crowded map, you can even think about a 8-12 Warrior rush like WastinTime did in the last Gauntlet, to get Horses.
