HOF Questions and Answers Thread

You should be able to have the mod installed twice on the same Civ IV install.

I tried to open an old (3.13) game and got the assets error (I have 3.13 & 3.17 HOF mod installed).

Is it possible to open a 3.13 with Civ patch 3.17 or must I have dual installation?

If I most have dual installation how do I mange that (Vista, i tried to run set-up, but no success)?
You dual install by first getting a good 3.13 install. Make sure it works by opening your 3.13 save. (You will have to uninstall and reinstall & patch.) Then you copy the "Sid Meier's Civilization 4" in Program Files and My Games to another name (i.e. "Sid Meier's Civilization 4 (3.13)". Create/copy a shortcuts to the EXEs in that path. Make sure you change the "Start in" path in the properties to point to the new path. You can then patch your original install to 3.17. That is a dual install.

Thx, Is there something vital that I should back-up before I start the uninstall process (apart from all my old/saved games)

Hi! I'm new and have read the FAQs, but I'm not sure I understood everything correctly. I have patched my game to 3.17 and have installed that HoF mod. Will I need to do anything like activate the mod in the game to make my games eligible? Or do I just need to start and make sure my settings are right and don't reload?

Also, this bit here:
QScore is derived from BaseQScore, which takes into account the average date of the best dates from each player. The fastest date receives a BaseQScore of 100 and the average date receives a 50. The problem is when a table consists of only two dates...
So wouldn't the QScore be open to manipulation? More specifically, wouldn't a player be able to push up his score by summitting a game he won very very late (and therefore push up the QScore for all the games in between)?
Or wouldn't a player winning very early but with very few points push down the QBaseScore for all of his subsequent games?

I'm no stats wiz so please bear with me.

on a given table (same speed, size, level, victory condition) only the best game of a player is counted towards the mean time

You just need to load the mod. Once it is loaded, just play (making sure you have the correct settings from here).

cabert is right on the Qscore question.

Probably a stupid question: How do I achieve a "Score" victory? I thought that having the high score at 2050 was a "Time" Victory. I am sure that this is an insanely ignorant question. Please help!

Score is the highest end-game score amongst all the victory conditions. You can see from this table (deity score) that there are different victory conditions.

Basically, you achieve a score "victory" by achieving any victory.

so it is competetive with other players?? or yourself? How does this relate to the HoF QM qualifications since it is not an in-game victory condition?

Other players.

Any victory (space, culture etc) qualifies as a score victory for QM and EQM purposes.

So the column on the Machiavelli page simply lists your own highest total score?

The column on the Machiavelli page lists your best score victory as it relates to QM/EQM comparrison with other players. For this comparrison, it takes into accound difficulty, game speed, map size, etc. A tiny map with 40K score on quick may have a better QM/EQM rating than a huge/marathon game for 350K.

Cool... Yep, I knew that it was a stupid question.

My paranoia is assuaged.

Thanks!

Hi, first HoF post and it's a bit of a rookie question but I hope you can put up with it.

I played an awesome game a few moths back, probably one of my best ever. I recently had started playing for HoFs so I sent it in. Little did I know that by some chance I have written over the start file with another separate game that was started after this game. So I have several save files without any problems but I lack the original start file. So, my question, is there any way to reset a map to gain a fresh start file? It annoys me to no end since when I checked it out now, it seems that I beat the current Marathon Domination Large by a huge amount, and all I lack is the start file. (I know the answer's most likely to be "no" but I just had to ask)

I don't believe it is possible to take a completed game file and generate a new start file.

Welcome to the HOF! :band:

Sorry, I don't know of any way to regenerate a specific map.

Ok, just started my first HoF game and made a mistake before I played a turn already - forgot to make a save at the start. But my game has made an autosave - "initial" something. Will that do?
Cos I don't want to risk opening it if it does.

Don't mean to be a ****** but if the HoF mod can be coded to make the required/recommended 4000BC, 1000 AD, etc saves automatically, it can save the players from some frustrating and tragic accidents.

it is, but you need to check the options (initial and final at least)

For Intermediate files you can edit the CivilizationIV.ini file setting: "AutoSaveInterval" to 1, when you can take Intermediate files from auto folder, it can also be used in case of a crash.

; The maximum number of autosaves kept in the directory before being deleted.
MaxAutoSaves = 1510 (if you play marathon...)

; Specify the number of turns between autoSaves. 0 means no autosave.
AutoSaveInterval = 1
