Honestly, folks...

'America did it'

LONDON — Leftist politicians and environmentalists sought yesterday to link Europe's worst floods in decades to U.S. reluctance to endorse the Continent's approach to fighting global warming.

Isn't this going a little too far?

There are more reasons (also mentioned in the article) but IMO America is for a great part responsible.

So I shouldn't say this article is going too far. I can agree with the image as shown. :)

I know that it may sound rediculous but in a roundabout way it is America's fault. Not just America but all the industrialized nations. The CO2 they pump into the atmoshpere will of course have an effect on the Global climate.

You heat up one place it has a knock on effect somewhere on the other side of the world. This has caused the El Nino effect. Which has in yurn led to a weird effect in the North Atlantic. Instead of all the Wet and cold weather head north of the British Isles or over it, it headed south over Europe and has caused all those floods.

In th UK the Gulf Stream that keeps or seas from freezing but also carries all our crap weather has meant that we have developed our own pocket of High pressure. So all the weather is still being funneled south.

So in other words it is all America's fault cause they refuse to cut down on their CO2 emmissions but the rest of the world doesn't help.....

Come on. Lets just blaim America for everything. OH WAIT!!! The entire world are already doing that.

A typical home in Europe 10 years from now.

Mother: Son, did you take cookies from the jar?
Son: It's Americas fault.

Frankly, I think the flood victims should be up in arms about this. They are being exploited to futher the agenda of a political group, which I find to be, at the least, cynical. At the most, inhumanly cruel. I simply cannot respect anyone who tries to find a human agency to be responsible for the uncontrollable forces of nature. NOBODY IS RESPONSIBLE. IT IS AN "ACT OF GOD."

When was it acknowledged that Global Warming was a problem and the U.S. needed to curtail its CO2 emissions?
If, within a year of that definitive descovery, the U.S. had began to curtail say by the frivilous Kyoto Standard...

Would there be no floods in Europe today?

Sure it will take a while for the planet to get itself bacl into shape so if the USA had followed Kyoto it would not have made a difference. But if they continue to refuse to follow an agreement that every other industrialized nation has accepted then the problem will only get worse.....

Oh and who told you the Kyoto demands were frivilous??

Cause they aren't, in fact they don't even go far enough.....

The simple fact is that since the Kyoto conference America has not reduced its emmisions whilst many of the other attending nations have. Not to say America is the only nation to blame, the whole of humanity is to blame. Our desire to line our pockets and preserve our power stands dominant over the needs of the planet. The planet is punishing us and we deserve it. Just what does it take to make people realise that we have gone too far?

When the last river is polluted
and the fish are dead,
When the last tree is felled
and the birds sing no more,
People will find that money cannot be eaten.

You guys let me know if I should be angry at the europeans or at the Americans for taking our water... ;)

These claims are quite stupid... The difference betweem the kyoto treaty and the current standards in the US is way too small to cause such a thing, especially not at such a short period. Also, europe is very industrious itself, and although they might have stricter standards it doesn't mean they don't pollute and don't cause global warming.

I wonder how come they never considered to blame the excesses of cheap Soviet-built factories and the USSR's "disregard" for the environment.
