12/22 Hotfix

Hey guys,

Tomorrow (12/22) we will be releasing a hotfix to address a few issues with the most recent major patch. Here are the changes:

[STABILITY]

* Fix for various rare crash bugs

[MODDING]

* Re-enabled LUA library unused in the core game. It was removed because we didn’t think modders were using it, and apparently many, many are using it.

[GAMEPLAY]

* Fixed bug where as Siam, food from Maritime City States didn't provide the expected result.
* Make a few more negative promotions not pass through on upgrades
* Made the Mandekalu mounted unit have the same negative vs city as the other mounted units
* Increased the chance that the AI will improve sea plots

No mention of the City State road quest fixed? Hopefully its an undocumented change fix that they slip in, but if I get that quest early with a city state I'm basically stuck just sinking gold into it for the rest of the game (or taking over or ignoring it depending on my needs).

Hope this bug is fixed soon if not in this hotfix.

How would you fix it?
As explained here in an earlier thread you can demolish such a road as soon as the quest is done. Which is kinda silly, but..

Is there trade route income generated from link to city state? If that's not already the case, that would be a nice solution.

Wow....they're actually fixing some bugs and you guys are complaining?

A hotfix is just that - correct some important things that need immediate action. They can't get everything in a hotfix, that's what a full-blown patch is for.

Well lets face it. Civ5 will not be perfect within next few months...
Am dissapointed with new patch. AI is still stupid. No fun at all.... sorry...

The problem is that a City State can request a road from your capital to theirs. Obliging will raise your standing with the City State. But the latest patch broke this: a City State will not recognize the road once it is there. This can seriously spoil a game. It should be easy to fix.

I'd like to see them fix the bug where AI are now 'Colonizing' 1 tile islands, also fix the bug that would ignore the Min_City_Distance Value & build a city on a 1 tile island only 1 tile of water away from another built city...

Some of the fixes for AI city placement in the last patch have caused many issues... I'm hoping this new ICS spam is a bug too. its a bad change, forces much more razing, devalues cities which makes wars even more boring & just makes it that the AI can hold out a bit longer before inevitably losing because they still aren't & probably never will be that great with there armies. They need to learn how to use the generals for a start!

Very nice. Thanks for addressing the mod trouble before Christmas!

(This was probably the main reason for the hotfix so please don't complain about things being left out)

Great with a hotfix, a little surprised the "1 turn trade" bug is not fixed. It is very exploitative when you can sell the same instance of a luxury to all AIs - draining their treasury early in the game cancels the deal because they can't afford it. (introduced with the latest patch, confirmed as a bug)

Wait - I don't have the civilopedia in front of me right now, but I thought the Mandekalu Cavalry's thing was that it has a bonus vs cities? Does this mean it now has a penalty *and* a bonus? That seems inefficient and complicated

Or, I'm misremembering what the Mandekalu Cavalry do, in which case, disregard this post :p

Mandekalu Cavalry
Movement: 3; Strength: 18; Ranged Strength: 0; Cost: 150 hammers; Required Resource: 1 Horses
Abilities: +30% bonus vs. Cities, no defensive bonuses, can move after attacking.
Notes: Songhai Unique Unit; replaces Knight.

I have problems with late-game crashes and they aren't exactly "rare;" the CS road bug is annoying, and I am eager to have it fixed, but the crash bug really spoils the game.

Cheers to Firaxis for addressing the crash issue. But yes, please fix the roads!

And the AI in combat is much brighter, but still foolhardy. Need work, but hardly hopeless.

They didn't get it in before the holidays, but made us a christmas gift of releasing what they could get in. Which, I say it again, is especially nice and primarily meant for modders and mod players.

You are correct that it's an annoying bug, but it shouldn't matter in the first place because the AI shouldn't buy luxuries for lump sum.

Meh, they could have just edited it as:
No penalty for attacking cities :goodjob:
I is teh :king:

Nice one Firaxis.

However. Why don't they release alot more small hotfix patchs? In this manner we could iron out the bugs sooner rather than later and then consentrate on the larger "gameplay balance" patchs.

Anyway as I said good work. Keep it coming.
