How about a Deity SG for a newbie or 2?

Yeah, I know what you are talking about Voodoocat. I had that happen to me in my solo Deity win several times. It was quite obnoxious, but what can you do? Skyfish, would you like to jump in here and play? This will probably be our last war of the game. If so, I'll follow you, and we can just switch for good. Oh, and great job Voodoo. :goodjob:

It's still great to see our "half" of the continent orange :) If you think about it, we're basically eliminating two AI civs. I think I lost a total of 7 tanks in capturing cities after our gov't fell. I think this war would be over had we continue to churn out tanks. We may have to do some preventative work in the future to prevent the AI from launching but that would not be a problem. If you like the results from our pillaging campaign, imagine a dozen or so Mech Infs pillaging.

Before I speak too rashly about no more wars, we should come to a definite consensus about how we want to finish this game. I vote for a Spaceship launch, and I think we definitely have the building advantage at this point. If both of you would prefer to take out the rest of China and then move on and take Japan or Zululand, then we can do that instead. What do you guys think? In any event, after we have cleared our half of the continent completely, we should definitely make peace for 20 turns or so to reload.

I think we are all on the same page as far as launching goes. We should prepare if for some reason we need to prevent a launch.

Great job the Cat : I got it !
Will try wiping out the rest of our continent, sue for peace and rebuild.

1525 : we take Leipzig and raze it (oops there was a Colossus in there...)
I dont think we have enough tanks to finish them off before end of anarchy...
1535 : The Zulus are building UN. After one turn of Democracy we turn back into Anarchy !!!!!!!
1540: we only have New Chengdu in north left and Rome, Cumae, Pisae.
1545: we take Cumae, only 3 major cities left, the rest we can get with a peace treaty
1550: our border on the isthmus is in danger China brings 40 or so Marines there. I have to bring loads of defenders on 2 tiles instead of 3.
1555:
1560: we come out of anarchy, back in democracy...We take Rome and Pisae, we raze Sun Tzu to the ground !
We sue for Peace and get
- Cologne
- Caesarae
(the 2 cities left on our continent)
- all their gold (355)

I have left it at the end of my turn so that you can change some of the choices.

These were very difficult and long turns. The whole trick was to time the capture of the last 2 cities right on the turn that we get back into Democracy because WW was huge ! and we would have gone back into Anarchy if we could not finish on that round.

In the end a very good result.
Our whole continent is Orange and the only danger is that Zulus are building UN and could finish very soon, we are far from Fission.

We need to plant a spy wherever Zulus are building the UN asap.

Here is the save.

Well that is why I left the leader incase we needed to rush the UN. Did you check to see if we could trade rocketry to the Zulu? They are now ahead computers and fission. d'oh. We're going to need that internet.

Oh, and why raze Sun Tzu's? That would have given us free barracks...

IT- Uh, a whole lot of trouble. UN built by Zulu could end the game. I investigate their capital and find that the UN is due in 9999 turns! The Zulu are in Anarchy. The UN, however, is about 2/5 done. This will be a good ol' fashioned race. Japan is a Democracy, while China is a Communism. I gift Japan Wines and Dyes, getting them from Annoyed to Cautious. I trade Mao Rocketry for Computers, Amphibious War, Communism, and his WM. In other great news, we cannot make gpt deals, so trading for Fission is out for the moment. We can finish it ourselves in 12 turns. I order up libraries in all of our outer territories to try to fill in the land as quickly as possible. I disband several infantry to rush the projects along (since we have no money). Nearly all of our cities are set to three things: 1) Research labs everywhere capable of building them fast. 2) Settlers everywhere where they will be built next turn using shields already in the box. 3) Libraries in all of the captured lands. There should be no empty spaces Skyfish. You should have built settlers with the already full shield boxes, or disbanded artillery to build them. We cannot leave empty spaces anywhere, especially since we fought this war to get control of our half continent.

IT (part2)- Japan offers ROP. I accept. Zulu offer ROP. I think about it, and ultimately decline.

1565AD (1) Research labs and libraries complete all around. Mech Inf. and Temples ordered in their place. Fission time is cut to 10 turns. Karabuk, New Constantinople, New Edrine, New Bursa, New Uskudar, and New Iznik are all founded. Zulu are now a Communism. I gift Shaka Silks and he is now polite. I trade Japan Coal for 13gpt, hoping to upgrade to Polite, but it doesnt work. In any event, the 13gpt will help keep us out of the negative. Japan then cancels our Spice deal, and I am forced to reknew and pay 100 gold instead of receiving 25 gpt.

IT- Wow, Japan uses our newly signed ROP to build a crappy city in the middle of our huge continent. Point Tokugawa?

1570AD (2) More Research Labs finish. Fission now due in 8 turns. Draft some Mech Inf and then disband them to raise shields for continued improvment building. I trade Rocketry to Japan for 148 gpt and 210 gold. This lets me bump Fission to turns. I remove all our luxuries, hire several tax collectors and entertainers, and am able to run the slider at 2.8.0, Fission due in 6 turns.

1575AD (3) New Izmit, New Antalya, and New Aydin founded, and borders expand, filling in almost all of the continent. A number of Mech Inf are build and shuffled to the Chinese border.

IT- Chinese begin Seti Program. We will complete it in 7 turns.

1580AD (4) More Mech Inf are build and shuffled around.

IT- Chinese and Zulu are still at war. China wants Oil for Gems. No thanks Mao.

1585AD (5) More of the same. The continent is all filled in now. Our military is being built back up.

IT- Shake offers a MPP and RoP. I decline. Japanese begin the UN and the Manhattan Project.

1590AD (6) Japan will trade Fission for 11 gold and our WM. Uh, thanks Tokugawa. In honor of this great trade, I turn off Science for one turn to rebuild our treasury.

IT- In a bizarre twist, Japan declares war on....us, sneak attacking with a Cavalry? What are you smoking Tokugawa? Isn't the world surprised when we build the UN, using the held over Selim to rush the project.

1595AD (7) I decline to hold UN elections. Izumi (the Japanese blot on our otherwise orange continent) falls without trouble. Research turned back on. Spaceflight due in 11. Leader fish a Japanese Cavalry, but no leader emerges.

IT- Japanese bomb New Shanghai, which is the lone orange dot on the Chinese homeland. Ouch Tokugawa, that hurts. Zimbabwe cascades from UN to Seti, beating us by 3 turns. Istanbul switches to Manhattan Project. We beat the Zulu to the UN by (I think) 1 turn. :nya: We were so close to losing.

1600AD (8) Troops shuffle and workers work.

IT- Japanese bombers bomb New Shanghai, while a Japanese Battleship bombs New Uskudar.

1605AD (9) I bring over some artillery, which pound the Battleships into retreat. I gift New Shanghai to Mao. I don't feel like seeing it get bombed, and we don't need to give him a reason to attack. I put a bunch of workers on automatic pollution patrol. I plant a spy in Tokyo. Our military is average compared to Japan and China, and weak compared to Zululand.

IT- A couple more Japanese ships appear and bomb random tiles.

1610AD (10) They are similarly dispatched with artillery.

Conclusion- What started as a sticky situation following some weed (did you rush your turns Skyfish?), has turned into a relatively easy finish. No new technology has been discovered, and once we end this Japanese war in a few turns, there will be nothing between us and victory but researching a few techs, queuing up some spaceship parts, and hitting enter. I have queued up a few Cruise Missiles which can be used to destroy the Japanese ships that are pestering our shores, after they are bombarded down to the red. I had to disband nearly all of our artillery to build libraries and temples in the captured Chinese lands, so if you feel the need, Voodoocat, you can rebuild those stocks. I don't really think it is necessary. I would recommend keeping the core cities on Mech Infantry and Tanks, keeping our nose out of world affairs, keeping the UN election off the table, and soon enough, we shall be partying in our SS Planetary Party Lounge on the way to Alpha Centauri. I leave you with Space Flight due in 7 turns.

PS- I think I just figured out why Japan sneak attacked. They probably didn't want to pay us 148gpt anymore.

CF1, 1610AD

Once again Speaker you are much too quick with crititcs.
I don't know what makes you think you are so good.
We just got out of f*****g Anarchy man ! How could I build anything ?
I gave you the turn right when we came back into Democracry. Don't tell me what I should have built.

What weeds exactly have been done ? Can you please elaborate ?
Rome was a flip risk (I did not have any sufficient garrison to station there) and I followed Voodoocat's directive to raze all of the remaining cities on the continent. This is team, I just followed what I was told.
I did not inherit an easy "walk in the park", your latest remarks about "being so close to victory" and "just hitting enter" show your lack of experience in my eyes and yourdesire to show how good a player you are...
Last time as well you criticized my switch to Democracy which turned out to be a good move, I really don't appreciate your negative input especially when it's not justified.

@Skyfish: While the switch to Democracy did work out in the end, at that point in the game, it was a definite risk. We were very close to getting ToE and Hoover, and taking full control of the game, and definitely did not need Democracy to do it. Since it all worked out, we gave you the benefit of the doubt, as the end justified the means. In this case however, Voodoocat and I both agreed that you were smoking some of Amsterdam's Finest (Voodoocat TM). You razed cities yet you didn't replace them with settlers. In anarchy, you can still create shields by disbanding units (Infantry gives 22, Artillery 20, etc), plus there were a number of cities that already had 30+ shields in their box. I used them to build Settlers on my inherited turn, and filled in most of the empty space as quickly as possible. Yes, Rome may have been a flip risk, but at the same time, it was a risk worth taking, since it contained a major wonder that could have saved us 50 or so gpt. We could have starved it, stripped off workers, and then built a library and temple, while giving it a healthy garrison. This would have nearly eliminated the risk. Further, you left us way behind in technology, low in money, with tons of artillery on undeveloped squares, with no workers in sight to develop the squares, wasting an important turn where the artillery were desperately needed to disband to build libraries. Even worse, a dozen or so workers in the northwest were put on auto. Imagine my surprise when they all of a sudden moved and started new tasks in the middle of my first turn. I understand that you did not inherit a "walk in the park," but at the same time, you did not do all that you could to make it easier on yourself and on me and Voodoocat. We barely got the UN by 1 turn, and it took a great deal of luck and diplomatic grace to pull it off. After making us wait for 4 days with no word, in my opinion, your game appeared rushed. I'm not saying you're not a good player. You clearly are, as you have helped us get this far. Last, you are wrong about my lack of experience. We are the biggest Civ by far, with the ability to mass produce military to protect us. We have research labs in nearly all of our important cities, and a strong enough economy to keep up with the AI (now in Communism) in research. We have no need to go after Japan, or China, or Zululand, and we should be able to turtle for the rest of the game and launch our ship. I wasn't saying that because of the great work I did in my 10 turns, we are now able to just relax and coast to victory. But after the very successful war that each of us played a part in, victory is probably assured. Don't have such thin skin.

Most of your move I would not consider :smoke: Except for 2 things. Razing Sun Tzu's and not trading Rocketry in our 1 turn of Democracy before falling into anarchy again. Obviously, we can all play well or we would not be in this position. At the beginning of this game not a single one of us could beat deity in a solo game. This isn't just a win either. When I post my turns tonight I am including a screenshot that shows us 1st in all the important categories on the demographic screen.

Well I'm back in the land of the living at last - I guess that's why its known as "busy season"!

Good to see the game is going well - looks like a win is on the cards. I'll keep lurking and rooting for you for the rest of the game - given that I didn't take part in any of the earlier hard work I don't really consider this to be one of my games any more so it wouldn't be right to jump back in.

Anyway, following on from voodoocat's last comments, I thought I could show off with this:

q33555_diety_win.JPG

Managed to do it in the last couple of days. Thought I had it in the bag when I got ToE and Hoovers, but just got the UN built and the first vote was hung despite me not being in a war the whole game (apart from one phony war in the very early part of the game). Luckily by the second vote WWIII had broken out and there was lots of backstabbing going on which meant the vote went my way!

Hopefully I may be able to take part in CF2 (if it gets up and running) and contribute more fully next time!

Good work q33555! I got really pissed at 2 solo deity games that started not to go my way. I haven't had the desire to win a solo deity because of the frustration it has brought me in the past. One of these days I'll get the fire lit again. I really enjoy SG's though. It must be the trading aspect of the game that is my weakest point.

Good turns speaker. I just was worried it would be too close missing out on computers a few turns earlier from Zulu but oh well. We still got the UN.
We plant a spy in China. They are incredibly weak. We have wounded them severely. They have no bombers. But 150 infantry and 31 artillary. We can't blame skyfish for problems because we are still in a superior position based on the demographic screen.

Enter

IT: Istanbul produced cruise, changed to jet fighter.
1615AD (01) - Use artillary to wound japanese troops.
IT: Istanbul builds Jet orders another
1620AD (02) - Wow, take care of 9 troops including 6 tanks and not a single leader.
1625AD (03) - Take out 2 transports, 1 battleship and one destroyer off the coast of Syracuse.

IT: Japan and Zulu sign a military alliance against China.
1635AD (05) - sink another battleship
1640AD (06) - Our first casualty... A tank just spontaneously combusts in the middle of the jungle. I sink a transport carrying 6 tanks. Trade Incense and silks for 27gpt to china Zulu has space flight. Trade it for our WM cuts a turn. Doing one turn of money to build up our treasury. Trade Dyes, wines, Incense and 24 gpt for Furs. Get 40 gpt for wines, incense and silks
IT: Setting cities on wealth to fund research.
1645AD (07) - Set most of our cities to wealth for gold. Ecology in 8
1650AD (08) - Not much
1655AD (09) - Not much
1660AD (10) - Trade Space Flight for 105 gpt, 250gold and WM to japan. If they break our treaty they will suffer. Trade china Space flight for 599 gold and 53 gpt. Ecology in 4 turns.
1665AD (11) - Trade silks for 19gpt from zulu.
IT: China and Zulu sign peace treaty.
1670AD (12) - Not much
IT Build SS Cockpit=>Docking bay
1675AD (13) - Ecology due in 1 turn +529
research on Synthetic Fibers. due in 7
1680AD (14) - Plant spy in Zimbabwe. Investicate cheap city to see them researching at 60%.
1685AD (15) - Pretty uneventful. Checked what Zulu would pay for ecology and it is worth 67 gpt and 1600 gold to them. I'll leave it up to our next leader to determine that deal. Japan has ecology. They are back in Democracy.

@Skyfish: Make sure to go through and put our cities on their most productive tiles. Sinop especially, can finish the SS part it is building next turn, if you put one of its specialists on the unworked tile. I poked around and was able to improve our cash flow from -22 to -18gpt. Not really a big deal, but the Sinop change is important IMO. I would also recommend not trading Ecology to the Zulu. Every turn they are held back is an extra turn we have to build our SS. They have 1 part built and 2 in the process like we do, but we have a big advantage by being done Ecology already. I would probably try to avoid trading any technology to anyone at this point, as every turn is extremely important.

But selling technology allows us to research faster. We could see what the AI is willing to spend once their gpt payments are up.
