Avatars, then username if the avatar changes a lot.

18 people so far picked the 'avatar' option. What does this mean?Probably that if you want to be noticed-then pick a attractive avatar, damnit!

avatar

but everyone knows whaen im around because of my crap spelling.

First off, by username. Within a thread, almost always by avatar. A few people by typing style (thanks, kristopherb).

This thread, I think, just convinced me to change my avatar from generic Hatty, because like everyone else I'm very confused when multiple people have the same one.

Avatars, of course.

I turned off the avatars for a couple minutes and I looked at the signature/username. Nevertheless, avatars really help me out in identying people.)

There seems to be some consensus that we often identify "who posted that?" without actually reading the username, mostly by avatar. I can usually recognise avatars by peripheral vision while reading the actual post; if I can't, I'll check the signature. Of course, sometimes this leads to me identifying people as "the guy with that avatar" or "that signature", rather than usernames.

How about you folks? When you're scrolling down the page, and you want to know who said what, what's the first thing you look at to identify everyone? What do you automatically look for? What's your primary method? How do you recognise people?

Vote and discuss. :)

Same here, wonder what option that makes.

I don't usually pay attention to who posts what, even if I'm responding to them. I just think "that guy who wrote that".

There are exceptions, usually regular posters to ongoing threads that I read regularly.

Sometimes I'll recognize an avatar or username for someone who's been really annoying me lately and think "Oh, I won't read that one".

I never recognize sigs, since I have them turned off.

I picked opinions, etc. since that's usually the way I remember someone if I remember them . . .

I recognize posters by avatar. This gets me in trouble at times but I usually tell from the post that the poster is not who I expected it to be.

I can recognize posters by usernames pretty much 99% of the time. I rarely get confused if they change avatars much.
