hi, i have been building it about 4 spaces away from my first city's influence ara...is this too far away?

i didnt know if overlapping influence was good or not

Your second city is almost always about grabbing a much needed resource - usually copper or horses. You cant go to the ends of the earth but youre probably better off going 6 spaces and selecting a "great" site rather than 4 spaces and getting a mediocre/bad site.

Maximum cities is NOT that important in Civ4 - go with fewer cities in optimal locations.

/had a guildy in EQ2 named Sabutai - where is that from?

Ive gone as far as 15+ squares away with my second or third city - but these are rare ocassions - usually when scouting has shown me with the lions share of a continent IF I can cut off a narrow strip of land with cultural borders, leaving an AI trapped with a crappy little segment of land - they'll get around you eventually - but if the strip is narrow enough you can get your cultural borders out into the ocean - basically owning your little slice of heaven until galleons.

These have been pretty few and far between - with city#2 I usually go for stone or tons of food - unless I've beelined BW and already know where the copper is.
