How fast can you type?

Darn, I don't have Java installed. Why didn't they make it with JavaScript instead? :(

94 WPM

Missed the top 100 by 3 WPM. Could've made that easy a couple years ago, but all I type anymore is code. Not these "real words" I keep seeing around...

40 WPM, but it's a little flawed as I have to look up for a second every now and then to check out on what I'm supposed to write. I probably type a little bit faster when I don't have to stop and look.

I should also mention that I had five errors, meaning a net speed of 35 WPM.

@ gonzo and Zelig : :wow: :worship:

@The Person: I think the point is that if you can type without looking, you will (obviously) be a better typist. But I sypathise with what you're saying -- my main problem was with reading the damn words.... I suck at reading....

I type around 100 wpm pretty easily unless I have to stop to think, or am copying technical terms that I don't know well.

I use the Dvorak keyboard... I was actually originally inspired to try it by CornMaster.

I converted my laptop to dvorak a few years ago but I didn't really have much time to learn it so I had to switch back. I did notice less strain on my forearms while typing but back then the decision was either 30-40 WPM with dvorak or over 100 WPM using a standard qwerty board. I might try to pick it up again someday though.

What in the world is "dvorak"? :dubious:

Off the top of my head a guy with the surname dvorak created a key combination that is optomized with the keys you use the most on home row. In theory this will lead to less strain while typing and faster typing speeds. In reality it was found that typing speed gains were minimal in most cases due to the true limit to typing speed being mental rather than physical. It does a great job of reducing strain by reducing reaching.

You can always google it for more information if you so desire.
