How Irksome...

Two things are seriously beginning to infuriate me as we approach launch. Firstly, why no information on Babylon? Why no screenshots, unique unit/building info, leader trait, etc?

Secondly, why are none of the reviews mentioning game performance? I have a PC that's just shy of the recommended specs and I'd like some information on how the game scales on marginally acceptable systems. *sigh*

No information on Babylon irks me too. The way they handled it makes me slightly uncomfortable. I would have liked to know what I was missing/receiving and more importantly, if/when Babylon will be released.

I too have a PC just shy of the recommended specs - the only area it lacks in is RAM where I have 2GB not 4GB. My motherboard only has two RAM ports so I may have to buy two 2GB sticks, assuming the motherboard can handle it.

More info on Babylon would be much appreciated, also if it will be released for general download eventually (say after 6 months - 1 year) or kept as a version exclusive forever. You'd think they'd want people to know what they were missing out on or signing up for.

i give it 2weeks to a month, tops

I don't worry too much about Babylon. On release day, I will have a livestream running. My computer is just shy of recommended specs as well, so tune in to see what it's like. I also have preloaded the deluxe edition, so I can go over the Babylon stuff the moment I load on Steam at 7am PT.
I will be updating my thread about my livestream on monday shortly before I go to bed, and again at 6:30am on release day before the game unlocks. Keep an eye on these forums here.

if you look at the previews of gta4 (take2 / 2k / whatever), youll notice no previewers mentioned performance, nor needing to create a wingamesLive account, followed by a gta-network account.

kind of big things to mention in a preview right? leads me to believe they strip out the bloatware for the previewers.

on the bright side, you have a chance to try a demo, the down side is you miss the chance for the preorder bonus stuff.

I thought it was already known that the UU of Babylon was the Bowman?

I think they will wait to put it out as DLC a bit later, more like november or something.
But I am quite sure you will be able to buy it before the holidays.

I'm more worried about the first 'full' DLC (the 2-civ+map-DLC). Will it be out before the holidays or do we need to wait until next year?

I read one review that mentioned that you should "take the recommended specs seriously", so it sounds like the game is quite taxing, resource-wise (uses a lot of time too...). Babylon isn't being released tomorrow, it's later this year. It's a civilization: it'll have either 2 UU's or a UU and a UB, as well as a special ability unique to that civilization. You'll definently know what those things are when the DLC is released, and if you're getting it free with a pre-order, does it matter what those details are? You're gonna download it anyway :p

I'd be more worried if they suddently said today that they were gonna push the release date back 2 weeks: THAT would be "irksome"

I'm also interested in knowing when and if they'll release Babylon as DLC. I pre-ordered the boxed special edition for the goodies, and well, I'm not going to buy the deluxe version in addition. 70 Euro is enough. :)

I just don't hope Babylon will be included in a 2-Civ+1-map-DLC.

It would be a shame if people who pre-ordered the Deluxe edition would have to pay full-DLC-price to only get one additional Civ, instead of two.

I'm hoping for two months. It seems like a fair compromise. They can release Spain and/or Mongolia first to give the deluxe edition some exclusivity. But I do agree that it has to be released eventually either way.

I believe it will eventually be released as DLC, but I doubt it will be released (and sure hope it doesn't) as a 2civ/1map type DLC. This would be ripping off the people who have ordered the deluxe edition by making them pay for Babylon twice.

DLCs are great!

I hear first DLC pack will include GOTO command for units, ability to queue unit production, animated water gfx, two more leaders (each state has only one now), and one map. All for a few dollars, hooray!

Hmmm... I have to admit, I'll be pretty "irked" (that's a good word, mind if I borrow it? :D ) if Babylon is availabe as purchasable DLC so soon after release. On one hand, I get their thought - they are a business, want to make money, have Babylon all ready to go, so why not sell it and pocket some cash. On the other hand, it's the only reason I spent extra cash on the deluxe edition....

So I dunno. Oh, and if it's released in such a way that it costs less than $10 (which I'm starting to think is likely)? Then I'll move up from 'pretty' irked to 'extremely' irked - heck, I may even approach vexed!

Honestly, I'm almost hoping at this point that it's never released as DLC, just so everyone who wants it but is buying standard because they're so cocksure it'll be DLC someday ends up kicking themselves. No, you don't have any way of knowing if it'll be DLC or not. Given the fact that they're apparently going the "2 civs and a scenario bundle" route for DLC it doesn't even make sense that they'd release Babylon that way. Yet 90% of people keep repeating with authority that they're certain it'll be DLC by such and such a date. No you're not, you know nothing. I have no problem with it if you're willing to take the risk, I'm just annoyed that most people are completely unaware that they are taking a risk and there is a decent chance this will be their one and only chance to have Babylon if they want it unless they buy the entire game again.
