Ive waited just as long as the most devoute players of civ for IV to come out, and as much as I feel betrayed and let down by the fact that my 1 month old ATI card cant play the game... WTH do I gain by returning a game I know I will love, when i can play it. I waited for at least a year since i heard IV was in the works, and another week for a patch isnt that bad. besides, it gives me a week extension of living like a normal person. Yes this is horrible, yes its stupid and should have been avoided. but thinking like a 3 year old who gives back the cookie his mom gave him because there are no sprinkles on it when its still one damn fine tasting cookie is just stupid. wait for the sprinkles, kids.

p.s. I voted for a week because im confident firaxis and 2k arent stupid enough to let this big of a mistake go uncorrected for very long. BUT WHEN YOU DO PATCH IT YOU BETTER SAY SO LOUDLY so i can start playing.

Its not like there not trying, a solution for an incorrect poster was released within a couple hours of finding out a mistake had been made. I was damn impressed when that appeared on their website, there apparently paying attention and working overtime to make the release as smooth as possible

3 bits of info:

1. I don’t yet have the game,

2. I have an Nvidia,

3. No game store will take a return on an opened game box.

3 means this topic has no point.

Ah happy memories of the indignation following the Civ III release come flooding back. ;)

I voted to allow them one week...but that's because I'm in Austalia and the game doesn't come out here till then.

If I was at home, having taken the day off work to play the game on the day I got it, and it didn't work - I would be through the ROOF!

Am very worried about it working on my system now... (ATI Radeon Mobility x300 128 MB).

People should return the game, no matter how much time it takes, if they feel they have been slighted. I will be keeping mine. Call of Duty 2 came out today and I will be back and forth between the two games. My nVidia 6800GT is freezing up after playing for a while (odd colors actually) so after 2-3 of those I bag it and play CoD2. Were it not for CoD2 I might be more annoyed. I understand those who are upset. They should be.

My husband took off through the weekend to play, we (my husband, me, and a friend of ours) are supposed to be multiplayering right now. Fortunately for him, his setup and our friend's setup can run the game. Mine can't. I work from home, so I didn't have to take time off per se, but I cleared my schedule for the rest of the week so that I could have the time to play. All my clients are aware that Civ IV was coming out this week, so don't expect jack from me - I've had it in my schedule, with updates when the ship date moved, for I think six months.

Seems fine to me. I've been playing with it for 3 hours now. No problems. :mischief:

I assume that the intial release of Civ III was also full of issues?

Where is the option for as long as it takes?

I don't have the game yet. I hope it works.

If it doesn't work, I will be patient, as the issue will be fixed.

Oh I'm keeping the game. If I can't get it to play well on this comp I'm scheduled to get a new one in a few months.

I looked for the "It's a fantastic game - works flawlessly for me" option in your poll, but couldn't find it.

Yeah, I played it for several hours and didn't have one problem...and we got this computer in 2001 or so (The only thing I've upgraded is the ram).

The initial release of just about any game is full of issues. But I specifically remember people threatening to take the game back when Civ II came out, yes.

The feedback posted has not addressed the Cheshire Cat/Dark Terrain issue at all, that I have seen - and I have been combing the threads looking for a solution.

It would take a total of a couple of minutes to let us know whether Firaxis considers it an addressable issue or not, and another minute to ask a moderator to make the post sticky at the top of the bugs forum so that it's plainly visible.

The only thing that's stopping me from returning the game is that I wouldn't be able to get the pre-order edition again - with no answer from Firaxis on whether the Cheshire Cat/Dark Terrain issue is going to be addressed, Civ IV will be sitting on my shelf, collecting dust.
I'm sure they do. They know where the various fan-sites are keeping their bug-report threads, and they'll be looking through them to try and get fixes.

That's actually part of the reason for trying to keep the discussion out of the bug forum - let them see the wood from the trees.

I agree with you moving this thread out of the bugs forum. But I don't feel Firaxis is being responsive to bugs that many many people are reporting.

Way to go, dummy. Instead of just keeping the game, you spent hours of your time returning it, and will still spend time buying it again.
I don't know about him, but I'm a young guy with a new baby and a limited budget. I can afford one game right now. If Civ4 doesn't work soon, I'm somewhat obliged to exchange it for something that does, or else I've thrown away $70 for nothing. I can't afford to lend a big game company money for a month; I have to get something for my money.

They can SAY "We're meeting tomorrow" but for all we know it might take six weeks to fix, or they might just say "the hell with you, you must not have upgraded DirectX, blah blah blah, we'll fix it in the expansion pack to be released in time for Christmas 2006." We're already seeing the it's-just-a-tiny-percentage-of-the-user-base apologia.

Well, its affecting a good amount of GeForce cards as well. So far I know of one card that outright won't work with it, the 256mb "Asylum" nVidia GForce 5200. Two folks, exact same problem no matter what, which is that it works, but all we see is the main screen with no menu.

Luckily, I switched away from that card!

:)

This is worrisome. I haven't got my version yet-normal shipping through Amazon, no prob- but then again, I'm still obsessed with exactly what to do about upgrading my hardware anyway. Seems like a good thing that I accepted being a few days behind in the first place- I'll certainly avoid that GeForce 5200!
The point is, I'm treating getting the thing to run, without wasting extra money, as a game in itself. Maybe when I have the game and the chosen hardware and it still doesn't work I'll see it differently, but for now, we all have the 'net and a lot of pros around. It'll get worked out.

Everyone feel better now?
